RIP Stephen Hawking

Damn

Pretty keen sense of humor.

My family and my BFF's family got the chance to see him speak when I was about 13. Quite the experience.

Damn.

Very sad. An amazing person, but now he and Albert can have some long discussion's.

That sucks.

It seems appropriate to link to the BBC obituary for him.

You linked to the BBC news article stating his death, which, if you look for it, does include a link to the actual obituary from BBC. For the rest of us: direct link to BBC obituary.

With that technicality sorted, this is sad but (inevitably) expected news. I'm actually surprised he made it this long. Nevertheless, and despite his physical ailment, Dr. Hawking proved, time and time again, to be one of the most brilliant of scientific minds that has ever lived. As a scientist, you know "ya done good" when you've had a fundamental aspect of astrophysics named after you.

RIP

He got to live long enough that black holes went from theoretical things he did math about to today's direct observation of the ringdown of merging binary black holes via gravity waves. A pretty good run.

RIP my brilliant friend.

I'll let someone else say it for me:

RIP thanks for all your contributions to the world

Damn. At least he had a reasonably long life, and he certainly made the most out of it.

"It would not be much of a universe if it wasn't home to the people you love." - Stephen Hawking.

"All the evidence points to [God] being an inveterate gambler, who throws the dice on every possible occasion."

He had an amazing ability to make the most complex ideas crystal clear.

"That is all I have to say for the moment. Thank you for listening."

I came here to post that, ruhk.

Though I was going to link directly to "Entropy" and "F*&@ the Creationists".

My favorite part is he knew about it, and thought it was awesome.

One of the only two times in my life when I was truly star-struck, was meeting Stephen Hawking. What an incredible human being. He will be missed by us all.

I hope Musk shoots his ashes into space/Mars.

Pi Day will never be the same.

Oy! Of course he did! One last trick, eh Steven?

life is like death. I see the potential in the absolution of the equation. I now know god loves and man kills. So I raise a glass to this great man. To the spirit of greatness, save us your're are only hope,

I watched a couple of tributes to Stephen Hawking. What a great guy.

Reminds me I have a copy of a brief history of time I picked up from a little library last summer. Time to get that started. You'll be missed, Thanks for the science.
