Crap.

After work I tried ordering it on Gamestop's website, but when I tried to check out,

I drove out to my friendly local Gamestop, where it turns out that you cannot pre-order this and have it arrive at the store. Instead you need to have it shipped to your house. I went with the express shipping for $5, as same day was double the price.

Praise the sun indeed.

Well not getting it then.

Completely forgot last night that Game Maker is Vlambeer's engine of choice. Bring on Super Crate Box, Luftrausers, and Nuclear Throne!

I feel like there’s no way, even if it is Nintendo, that they would announce Smash like that if it was just a port or a slight upgrade with new characters. That would piss people off to no end. Every other remake has clearly stated it was so from the reveal.

I think you're underestimating how good Smash 4 actually was. What would a Smash 5 to do to improve on that?

Also, this is a community that would melt the Internet if Nintendo ported the GameCube iteration to Switch.

Smash has always been a highly iterative series with each game building on top of the previous one. An upgraded combined edition would be reason enough alone for a Switch port to exist given how few stages were actually shared between the two versions (here's the 3DS list and Wii U list). That plus a couple new characters and stages would be a good incentive to upgrade. Oh, and it'd be portable.

Besides, Mario Kart 8 DX to date is only trailing the original release by about 1 million units in sales. If people are willing to buy that why wouldn't they double-dip on Smash Switch?

Good direct. Some nice surprises, and plenty of stuff I'm excited for. It also felt like they were clearing the decks for E3 since many of the announcements were for things releasing this summer and were smaller titles that could've easily gone into the E3 presentation to fill time.

Yuuuuuuuuuuuup. We've got multiple remakes and re-releases on the horizon for the next few months. Smash is clearly a huge reveal, but we know nada at this point.

Smash is definitely a port. I'm with shop on this. They didn't actually officially announce the game, they teased it. We'll hear more when they properly announce it and it'll be a port. Those games take too long to make and, as shop says, this last version was hella good. My hope is that they add in a sp campaign that people missed from Smash Wii.

For sure. I think there’s plenty of hype about a port of Smash 4. I don’t even think a Smash 5 would be ready for this year if they were really building from square one. And that doesn’t even seem necessary. I suspect we’ll even seen this Switch Smash treated in a games as service manner with even more new content added after release.

Smash debut at E3 with a pre-event tournament seems like a lock.

I don't think new characters are evidence of it being a Smash 5, but if I were to consider anything it would be the difficulty of bringing the 3DS game modes and stages into the WiiU version and whether that's harder than just making a brand new game.

If it is a brand new game, I'd just like them to ease up on the Fire Emblem roster.

Regardless, I think seeing Breath of the Wild Link, one of the things people are hinging on, isn't really proof as that could just be a new skin.

Heck, I'd be okay if they axe most of the FE roster for the port. Meaning, even if it is a port, a lighter roster wouldn't be a horrible thing.

That’s true but ohhhhh the complaints if they actually did that.

I'd be willing to bet we get another FE and Pokémon character added to the roster. Plus ARMS in some form (character or assist trophy).

Also, I'd like to see Ice Climbers restored now that 3DS performance isn't an issue. And a better Konami representative... Alucard or one of the Belmonts instead of Snake since Castlevania had much bigger presence on Nintendo hardware than Metal Gear.

Not sure I follow. A lot of the stages in 3DS were from Brawl. It shouldn't be that hard to redo the rest to a higher spec.

And Smash Run shouldn't be that hard to port.

Regarding Smash...I think the most logical and wise decision FINANCIALWISE is just to give it the Mario Kart 8 DX treatment. Plus some addons.. there is no NEED -atm- to make a new Smash Brothers game

I don't know guys. The news link on the Switch is "Super Smash Bros (working title)". Are they really trying to decide if it's Smash Bros 4 DX, or Smash Bros 4 Deluxe, or Smash Bros 4 Ultra Punchy edition? Possibly... but I'm going to wait until they actually release some info on it.

Darn. I should have known better than to hesitate on this. Sold out already.

Yes? We have a Yoshi game coming out later this year that's still unnamed. Kirby Star Allies didn't get a proper name until lateast year.

And aren't those all new games? Isn't that what people are debating about Super Smash Bros?

Virtual Console was never gonna happen.

Asking because I dont know anything about the situation, not for any other reason.

I'm going to interrupt to say, I wish the kickstand was more adjustable or would stop at a larger angle.
That is all.

That kind talk is loose-Cannon talk! Turn in your Gamer Badge. McBain! You're off the case!

I almost exclusively play Indie games these days, so there wasn't much in this Direct for me. I wanted an Nindie reel or at least news on Hollow Knight or Wargroove. Undertale is nice, but the "Eventually" release date makes me think I've got a long wait on my hands. I'd say the Crash Bandicoot reveal was the highlight of the Direct for me. We all knew it was coming, but it was nice to see it officially announced with a release date.

With just 30 minutes focusing on both 3DS and Switch games with a highlight of Mario Tennis Aces, detailing upcoming services like Virtual Console wasn't going to happen. They'll save that for E3 when they can dedicate 10 minutes to new services (assuming they aren't abandoning ship on Virtual Console), the rest of the time to big games, and then the next days of E3 to more in-depth looks at their major releases.

Yeah, but at this point there are quite a few good stands out there (I hear, I don't ever really play it like this)

My kiddos are enjoying the free Kirby demo and are asking me to buy it, FYI. I think it has up to 4 player co-op.

I believe my two kids have played each level about 10 times each, minimum. I tried to get a 3rd player but couldn't get it working in the demo. The full game for sure has 4 player co-op though.

Yeah, that's probably our next purchase, which means I need to wait longer for Ribbids.
Oh well, I grabbed Golf Story today.

I doubt they'd announce VC at E3, simply because previous VC unveilings occurred either in a regular Nintendo Direct (Wii U about 1 year after the system's release) or at GDC (Wii announcement). VC is a very niche project and I doubt it's something that a general audience would care much about. More likely they'll talk about the upcoming paid networking service.

(I also think there's probably some tension about detailing digital-only stuff at E3 since that's historically a trade show event to hawk new wares to retail)

I think he makes a good case for Smash being a sequel in the same vein as Splatoon 2 (not a lot of huge differences, but some).

I'm looking forward to a new fun puzzle fighting game so I hope this Sushi game is good.

Sidenote: Flinthook came out yesterday which I really enjoyed on Steam and works really great on switch too. Good game for people who like platformers and rouge-likes. Only $15

I may never finish the final level in Mario Odyssey, but I’ve really enjoyed the game. I’ve collected over 660 power moons and I keep going back to find more. I’d happily play a second (or DLC), given the chance.

Dragon Quest Builders is still fun. It is super pleasant and chill to build. I sorta wish more systems were built into it. IE BotW.

Anyone know if this is valid logical reasoning:
