You can always push your own units into it with the titan or artillery guy, but yeah that's one of the trickier ones for the flame guys.

That's a good idea. Probably a little tricky though since you are most likely not using those two guys for saving buildings from buggies that turn.

I just had a harrowing win with the Zenith Guard. I was doing pretty well until the finale. I lost some power on the first half. Things were pretty dire on the second half and I was just hanging on by the skin of my teeth. I had trouble stopping some of the Vek because of positioning and the buildings. I ended up winning with 2 of my 3 mech dying on the last turn, and the other one down to 1 HP.

And this proves my point! I did know you could undo one mech's moves, but not all three if you don't do an action.

You can most definitely move all 3 mechs and undo that if you like as many times as you like. Taking an action is what locks the board state in.

If you move all three and take an action your other mechs are locked in to where you had moved them. Maybe that's a source of confusion.

What platforms will it be on?

Into the Breach will be initially available on Windows. After release we intend to bring the game to Mac and Linux as well. As a small studio, we found managing that large of a release for FTL very difficult, so we’re going to spread it out more this time. We will consider the possibility of bringing the game to Mobile devices and/or consoles in the future, but it is not a priority at this tim

Waiting for the Linux release Looking forward to it!!

That last squad was tough for me to win with, but I finally did it. Won with 4 squads now - but only the 2 island victory.

So far this does a great job at making each squad require different thinking.

Is there much lore in the game? Like in FTL you'd see spinets here and there of World-Building. Is there anything like that in this game?

Yes. Comments by time travelers, CEOs, and civilians tell a pretty bleak story.

Seriously. I spent about four straight hours playing with the Rusting Hulks on Saturday night. It was like playing an entirely different game relative to the Rift Walkers. I didn't like them at all at first, but as I got used to them, got them fitted out with better alt weapons, and upgrades I found them surprisingly playable and eventually got a 3-island win.

There's some air missile variant for the jet mech that you can shoot through buildings and friendly units to generate shields on them and still hit a Vek on the other side (one damage and a push) that was ridiculously useful. I'm on to the Zenith Guard and not loving them at the moment, but I'm also still getting used to them and how their upgrades improve them.

I had an incredible run with Rift Walkers with a fully leveled up move-through-enemy pilots and web-proof pilot pod drop.

Then I got the Prime enemy flip weapon and spent most of the rest of the game throwing Vek in chasms or water.

Destroying enemies in water or chasms is my favorite way to destroy enemies.

Absolutely. I get a surge of glee every time I can dodge or shift that bug that goes ramming speed and have him charge headlong into a chasm or lava pit.

I hate the Steel Judoka. Just don’t find them fun or effective.

I don't like the progression system, going for the achievements is neither fun nor satisfying in my experience. I guess it's something the team is sticking with though, it was my biggest issue with FTL as well - once I had all the ships unlocked I started having a lot more fun. I'm still missing two squads in Into the Breach (the two most expensive ones) and I don't look forward to looking up achievement conditions and trying to accomplish them just so I can try those. Does anybody else really dislike this system or am I alone in my distaste?
Other than that I really enjoy actually playing the game for all the reasons stated in this thread already, even if it hasn't hooked me the same way FTL did just yet.

I was able to unlock all the regular squads without too much difficulty. I did do a bit of achievement hunting for some of my coins, but most of the achievements came to me organically through playing a bunch. Also note that you can make a suboptimal play to get an achievement then reset the turn so you don't screw over your run.

That said, I am kind of sad, however, that I have to 100% the game in order to unlock the secret squad. I am generally not a completionist, so I hope the game keeps me hooked long enough to get them all.

It hasn't bothered me yet, really. But I'm also kind of obsessive about going one squad at a time, in order, and getting a win with it before moving on to the next. (Stayed up too late last night and barely squeaked out a 4-island win with Zenith Squad. On to Blitzkrieg!) So far, that has meant that unlocking the next available squad hasn't been an issue as I think I've always gotten at least 2-3 achievement coins out of it.

All that said, I do see where you're coming from (Nako). Were I to reach the point where I haven't earned the coins to unlock the next squad in line, I could definitely see that being frustrating.

So far I've won 2 island victories with the first 5 squads, but I need more coins to unlock another squad. I figured it would also be a good time to go for a 3 island victory with the first squad now. I stayed strong through the entire campaign, but was down to 1 power on the 2nd half of the final battle. Luckily I had bought equipment that triggers shields on all buildings when the power level gets down to 1. I never would have made it without it.

I've been having a good time with Rusting Hulks, and Steel Judoka. Camila Vera, and Chen Rong, have stood out as good pilots.

I love knocking enemies into water, or against one another, and cancelling them out with smoke. Fun!

So my upgrades don't carry over if I abandon a timeline?

You can only carry over one of your pilots (they will retain their levels and XP). Nothing else carries over.

Damn, that's tough. I'm playing on Easy and have only ever cleared two Islands in a row and then got killed on the first land in the second island.

I finally got my achievement for getting a win with each of the 10 squads. The Flame Behemoths were the ones I had the most trouble with, but eventually stopped trying for a 4 island win and went with a quick 2-island win with them for the cheevo. These were all on normal difficulty, so I think I am going to start upping it to hard.

Also did you all read this ITB lore interview with Chris Avellone? It is a fun read.

I have 2 more squads to unlock. I had trouble getting the Blitzkrieg achievements for more coin. I've been playing on normal, but I may need to play some games on easy to try and get the rest of the unlocks. Some of the achievements to get more coins seem awfully difficult, like blocking 4 spawns on a single turn.

I got a three-island win with the Frozen Titans on Sunday, which leaves me with just one squad left to unlock and win with (Hazardous Mechs; all on Normal). I'm three coins short, so I'm thinking I'll take another run with Flame Behemoths. It's the only one I've won only as a 2-island victory (which I went after just for the achievement). I think they may have been my favorite to play so far. It's a lot of fun just lighting everything up and not having to worry about taking damage from it.

. . .I may have issues.

Edit: @robc: I found the Frozen Titans very challenging to get achievements with. Usually I'll luck my way into one or two just by playing the squads as they're meant to be played, but I didn't even get one achievement from two runs with them.

Some two months away from the game has reverted my skill set to novice. I'm getting wrecked! Relearn, I shall.

Finally jumped on with the minor sale.

Wow this is fun.

Should have beat the second island my first try, but lost power on the enemy's final turn. Goes back to the sector before where I screwed up and lost my starting pilot, who was maxed out. I had switched them around to try to get more xp to my one that was lagging behind and left the best guy in the 2-health ranged mech. And I think even more screwed up he had a bonus power so I could have doubled the health and not died. Ugh.

Now I carry on with a new pilot and try again.

Hey finally won one, with the fire squad.

Probably 10 attempts on Normal, with various squads and pilots. I was really about to give up and turn it on Easy but finally got through.

Did it after 2 islands because the ice island has kicked my ass every time I tried it instead. Barely won, maybe 2 bars of shield left, but I did it.

Still have at least 3 more squads to unlock and it looks like I maybe have half the pilots? Definitely can see some bonuses meshing better with some squads. Really looking forward to tinkering around as I unlock things, maybe even trying the custom squads now that I've finally won. I figured there was no point in chasing the custom/random squad achievements that have you beat the game until I actually did that at least once, hah.

They did a hell of a job. Feels just as addictive and fun as FTL.

It is great.

Never ever going to happen, but I'd love this on 3DS.

After my post last night I ran another with the smoke squad. Finally beat ice island for the first time after many attempts before. Then tried the 4th island and beat it the first time. Some interesting twists with conveyor belts. Unlocked 2 more pilots along the way too.

Ended up losing the final battle with 2 rounds to go. But overall a productive run.

I didn't really get this game when watching a lets play of it but I just sat down to play it and it is really fun. The game is really simple but has a lot of strategy in it. This would make a real good ios or android game.

I think I won 2 more times this week in normal.

Did one easy run for that squad "2 islands in 30 min" achievement and boy was that easy.

I am only missing the Frozen squad at this point. But still 4 pilots I think.
