Name that GAME Thread

I have no idea what that is, but it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

The ending scene of Crystalis.

Assuming that I'm right, free play.

You are correct!

Don't know what else I can show to help. It was an arcade game that was then ported every which way.

I totally remember walking through the arcade as a kid and seeing this. I'm pretty sure I played it, too. My brain is just not coming up with the name. I almost said Ultima but a google search proved me wrong!

It looks like the Namco font and the score line looks straight from Galaxian.

Not sure I would recognize the name of this one. The screenshot is ringing no bells for me, not even the one in the screenshot.

You're on the right track!

As are you!

The best hint I can give is that it basically invented the action RPG. You ascend levels instead of dungeon diving.

Edit: You're climbing a Tower.

It's Tower of......Something. I vaguely recall it from one of those Namco Arcade Collections.

Tower of Druaga! I would never have gotten there without the "tower" clues. 86 is right though, it was on one of the multi-game discs I had.

Well, at least I recognize the name after all

Yeah, I thought you would. It's a famous name even if the original game isn't iconic looking to those outside of Japan.

Persona... 4?

Shadow of Destiny?
Apparently that's the North American title. It was called Shadow of Memories everywhere else.

I think there was some detective game that tracked time like that, but I have no idea what the name was.

Bingo. You're up!

There are two answers I'll accept for this one.

Alien Breed remake?

Nope. This came out about halfway between the original and remake series of Alien Breed.

Derail: how is Shadow of Destiny? I bought it for PC, but I don't think I got more than 30 minutes into it. I don't recall if it was the graphics or (and?) the gameplay that turned me away from it at the time.

I remember really enjoying it, probably mostly for the eerie tone and the twists of the plot, certainly not for the exceptionally bland main character. My chief gameplay complaint was probably that it presented an open (if small) world but led you down a very linear narrative path. I'd imagine that it hasn't aged particularly well, but I'm a bit tempted to revisit it myself.

Hint: the title of the game in my screenshot includes one of the words of the previous answer.

Marlow Briggs?

I....had no idea that even existed.

Another screenshot.

The developer is from Finland. This was their first series before their big breakthrough action-puzzle-platformer series.

Is that Alien Swarm?

9 years before Alien Swarm.

Shadowgrounds?

Shadowgrounds it is!

Numerous reviews at the time called it a top-down Doom 3. I think Computer Gaming World even claimed it did horror better than id software's game.

Odd, I've played them but don't recall it looking like that. Weird. Guess it's mashed together with the Alien _____ games and whatever the series is that Team 17 does (probably Alien something).
