Splatoon 1 & 2 & 3

They finally released an alternate Zapper!

Loved the gun but hated the specials. This one is much better.

Played a few matches to warm up and noticed 5-6 out of 8 players were using it every game.

Also new splatfest next weekend.

Ugly socks vs Ugly sweaters as gifts.

Someone please shoot some ugly sweaters people for me, as I'll be doing holiday travel this weekend.

Also, the new competitive mode goes live on the 12th alongside the 2.1.0 patch

One of my complaints with the first Splatoon was that I felt hopelessly behind other players when I missed just a couple weeks of regular play. Has that gotten any better, or have I basically missed the boat on Splatoon 2 multiplayer?

I jumped in for the first time in a long time for a few casual battles. Skill varies so wildly, I didn’t feel like I had been out of the game for very long.

I can have that problem in ranked matches (especially once you get to A- or higher), but at least when it comes to the standard Turf War matches there's a lot of variety of experience and skills like Zoso said, so hopping in to that is pretty accessible. Plus there's likely to be a bunch of new players who get a Switch around Christmas anyway.

I’m bad at shooting games and am very competitive in Splatoon 2. The matchmaking seems to be very good. I even have fun in ranked matches.

Next patch scheduled for late January, but no details at this time.

Also, they're doing a live concert in Japan for Off the Hook in February. Bring on the vocaloids!

That was my experience over Thanksgiving break as well. Turf Wars kinda lends itself to being fun even with skill atrophy. Plus, the maps in the game are generally small enough that it's fairly easy to reacquaint yourself with older ones and learn new ones in a few rounds.

Cross-posted from the games soundtracks thread, I like this little peek at recording sessions of Splatoon's music.

So I got myself a copy of Splatoon 2, and it feels... different from the first game. I can't quite put my finger on what it is, but the movement or aiming or something feels just slightly off. It feels slower and a little cludgier. Anyone else get that impression?

Nope. Maybe try adjusting your motion controls sensitivity?

It felt weird to me until I switched to the Pro Controller, which then felt better than the WiiU did. But I'm also not using motion controls, so don't know if that makes a difference.

Bumping the sensitivity up quite a bit helped. Thanks for the suggestion!

I'm not brave enough to venture online, so I've been playing the single player. I'd like to thank World 2 for reminding me just how bad I am with a roller.

Edit: On second thought, I detached the Joycons and got the dual pistols. One of those two things made a huge difference. Now it feels like Splatoon again!

More vocaloid shenanigans this past weekend:

Also, there's an amiibo pair for Pearl & Marina coming, plus a new stage and weapon.

I mean, I want the Marina amiibo and all, but Pearl, bleh.

Nintendo's got a webpage detailing the Octo Expansion. You get 80 new single player missions, more than double the 32 of Splatoon 2's already included single-player.

In order to play an Octoling you gotta beat the campaign, which seems to involve the story of an amnesiac Octoling. I mean... sort of story. I don't think we'll get much in terms of narrative here.

If I had to guess that 80 missions is probably going to be spread between a campaign and some standalone challenge levels. The trailer they showed had some stuff that looked a bit Matrix/MGS VR Missions inspired.

Regardless, I'm down.

Only if you don't bother collecting sunken scrolls. Which... sure don't really tell a whole lot but it did do a little bit of fleshing out the state of the world in the previous two games.

Also, Splatfest this weekend!

Patch 3.0 is bringing more music!

I gotta make time for this game again. Every time they announce a SplatFest it seems like it's last minute during a weekend I've already got plans. Just this past one I had to go to a wedding that Saturday and thus my thoughts were preoccupied.

Now that I have a good phone maybe I should just relent and use Nintendo's multiplayer app.

Hey, I finally made time for a Splatfest. I picked baseball but I had to think about it. I played much more soccer when I was young, but baseball is the only sport I follow these days. Looks like baseball was less popular but we pulled out a narrow win.

Lots of fun. I had some close matches.

I'm still pretty much married to the dualie pistols. Maybe I should take a risk and try something else sometime.

Ack looks like I missed another splatfest.

I didn't even know this one was happening until last night. I don't suppose we have anyone playing regularly enough to be able to keep us all abreast of the upcoming events?

I think it was Friday when I heard about it so I wasn't doing much better. I'll try to post here next time.

Nintendo just put up a video of a hologram concert with Pearl and Marina at an event called Polymanga.

1 year anniversary splatfest this weekend. Squid vs octoling. Sounds awesome.

I managed to play for a little bit this eve, didn't win many matches but I did have fun! I picked Team Octopus so that I could play as an Octoling; I think they look great!

Forgot how much fun this was. Played 3-4 hours today. Love it.

I thought I might get in a little more playtime today but logged in just in time to get the announcement that it was over! Pity, but Splatfests seem to come up regularly enough so I'll just try to carve out more time for it next time!

Only played for a bit, but I had a difficult time on Team Squid.

You're should have seen what it was like on the losing side! I wasn't surprised at all when I saw that us Octopodes had lost the majority of both team and solo matches.
