Hidden Gems of Netflix's Watch Instantly

I'm a couple episodes into El Ministerio del Tiempo and really digging it.

It's a sci fi/fantasy show about the Ministry of Time, a secret agency within the Spanish government that has protected Spain's history from time-traveling meddlers for over five centuries.

In this world there's no fancy technology or alien device that makes time travel possible. There's just a series of mysterious doors--some known, some not--that allow people to cross from one specific point in time to another.

The show focuses on a group of new Ministry recruits that includes a 16th century Army of Flanders soldier, a 19th century woman who was Spain's first female university student, and a present day paramedic.

The episodes deal, so far, have dealt with key events and people from Spain's history which, for me, adds to the appeal of the show. I like seeing how other countries and cultures choose to portray themselves.

The show also has a good sense of humor. I know there are loads of cultural reference going completely over my head, but the ones I'm picking up on are hilarious.

Maybe that will placate disappointed ME:A fans.

Wait, wait, wait...........Parker Posey is playing Dr. Smith?

God damn you Netflix, well played.

Exactly.

Looks pretty cool!

Roxxane Shante biopic coming this month.. I think we may even get a bit of The Juice Crew in there as you can hear Biz Markie's name at the end of the trailer. Really excited about this. Shante was the first female rapper debuting in 1984 and famously threatened to beat Nas up if he didnt show up and record some rhymes as a youngster (arguably his first glimpse into eventual stardom)

Wait ...what...... the Robot is a Geth!?

Slightly behind the times but we finally finished off Star Trek: Discovery tonight. It’s a very impressive achievement all things considered, but it felt like it lost its nerve slightly towards the end in trying to become more like Star Trek than it actually was. Not quite a cop out (well, except for one very specific sequence) but not far off.

Highly recommended if you get the chance though!

That is on Netflix? Will have to check it out.

Not in the US

Bleh!

Can one of the squee-ers let me know if Defenders has plot points that are assumed knowledge in Jessica Jones S2? We watched Luke Cage, then skipped Iron Fist and Defenders because everyone seemed to give them a collective "meh". I'll watch Defenders if I need to, but if it's not needed, I'm happy to keep skipping it.

I watched the first two episodes and it basically just picks up where the first season left off. Not even a reference to Defenders or any of the other Marvel shows yet.
What I’ve watched feels a bit unfocused (and possibly lower budget) compared to how the first season opened but I’m enjoying it.

Excellent, thanks.

Watched the first two episodes also of Jessica Jones and found the show disjointed so far. There is one part in the second episode that I watched twice to make sure I didn't miss something and it just doesn't make sense.

There were some good moments. Hopefully this was just a weak start.

Like...2 or 3, max.

I enjoyed Defenders plenty and still find this to be quite the perfect jab.

I'll get to JJ at the weekend most likely, but right now I'm stuck watching "Ghost Wars", which is....interesting? It's a very weird, pretty cheap looking, SyFy show set in Alaska with a town under siege by killer ghosts and just get's weirder from there.

Not the best TV you'll ever see but a perfect "half-watch while I do other things" show.

Yikes. Maybe a bit too gross for me

Finished it in one sitting yesterday - I Actually really enjoyed it quite a bit, but yeah it does have a fair few gory moments now and again.

Has anyone else mentioned Gallavant yet? A comedy musical about a knight which subverts the usual tropes associated with stories of that era. Did I mention it has Timothy Omundsen? And that he's a really good singer? Also Weird Al in one episode. It's a good mix of witty writing and some stupid slapstick humor. I'm really enjoying it.

I watched that as it aired back in the day. It's quite fun and the songs are good.

I also DVRed it as it came out and watched with the wife and kids. The first three episodes had me laughing so much that my face hurt. The season finale was also super funny. In between it got a little slow. As a whole it’s wonderful.

I think they did a season 2, but I wasn’t inspired to watch it. I just figured that they probably couldn’t top the first season.

Ep 11 was fantastic.

Spoiler:

Evil Dr Who made everything better.

I hope the last two episodes are this good.
