Giant Bomb Bomb-All

Thanks Chaz, good to know it improves. It's a delicate balance, having things be chaotic enough to create funny mischief, without being so out of control as to just be a mess.

Vinny told her that she needs to pause as infrequently as possible. Mostly due to time constraints but also to really put the pressure on her.

I don't think not pausing has to do with time constraints. In some situations, pausing would actually save time, because it would give her the chance to prevent some stuff from going wrong that might otherwise not have. This way, things can go wrong, and she has to fix it without pausing (see: the bathroom troubles) which would end up taking longer. I think it's just a rule for fun because it makes a better show.

I'm catching up on Bombcasts and Jeff dropped a "I read about them in Forbes" Die Hard reference and I thought it was pretty funny.

I also am very much in favor of more Will Smith on the Bombcast, even though he's doing his own thing with the Foo Show.

I'm always glad when Will Smith drops by. After Bright, he needs a break.

Watching Dan's slow motion transformation into liking realizing he has always loved anime is hilarious to watch.

Do we think Jeff deliberately Heihachied up his hair for the latest Ranking of Fighters?

Nah, that's just his regular look.

He's one hair color change away from Super Saiyan.

Huh. It seemed really extreme from a few angles.

POLL: Do the Beasters beat XCOM? For those who are keeping up on Exquisite Corps.... I'm torn. They're starting to see Sectoid Commanders and they don't have Psionics, and they are very top-heavy (dependent on a few soldiers), so if they lose Ryckert they could be in trouble.....

No. Neither Abby nor Dan are good enough tactically or think about the long game. Alex is the only one who's good at all aspects of it and he can't keep cleaning up their messes.

I fell way behind on Exquisite Corps. It's kind of a mess. I'll go back and catch up one of these days.

I might also just swap over to Ausin/Rob playing XCOM 2 over on waypoint. That seems like it'll be way less of a train wreck.

Alex can't keep bailing them out forever.

That series is a trainwreck mainly because, as usual, Dan throws any sort of logic to the wind and just goes for what's funny or amusing to him. Unfortunately, XCOM is a game that requires at least some planning or patience, so...

We should definitely keep watching it, then. I'm sure it all turns out fine

I wish GB would put more thought into some of their features. This isn't the first time a series has been hindered by lack of forethought.

I had hoped that the format of the series would be Vinny would playing a bunch of XCOM on his own before the feature (like Alex has done) and be a knowledgeable party that could guide them when needed. Instead, he contributes to the lack of knowledge and reinforces bad behavior. Alex should have been in Vinny's role since he clearly is taking it more seriously. It's fun to see people fail when they make an effort to do well, it's not fun to see them fail because they can't be bothered to understand the basics of the game.
When Abby miss-clicks, Vinny shouldn't be immediately blaming the game along with her, but helping her acknowledge that she could have done better.

GB features are great in concept but I feel like they sometimes play too loosely with the execution.

It's the same as in Beast from the East. Dan got frustrated and cranky while Alex was guiding them around and explaining how the game actually worked.

I grew to really dislike Steal my Sunshine. It just wasn't that interesting after a while.

Overall, I'd like to see some more Quick Looks. They've really prioritized features and series over game coverage and, while I like them, I don't feel I get to see as many neat games I used to.

I've really enjoyed every classic adventure/fmv game they've had a feature with.

I'd bet part of that is because they have so much more competition to their quick looks in various let's play on streaming services.

You're definitely right. I just really only go to GWJ, Giant Bomb, Veloxi, and the Steam page for information on a game.

I don't how people feel about This is the Run but I find it to be awesome. It's well thought out, lean, to the point and they really make an effort to learn the game. It's such a contrast in terms of enjoyability to something like Exquisite Corps.

Man, have I got some exquisite corps to catch up on.

While I like a bunch of the series they're doing now, it's almost too much content. I can't keep up.

Today's Exquisite Corps episode:

Spoiler:

Good playing from Abby! Even though her and Vinny initially struggled to remember the absolute basics of the game, they eventually got in the groove and did well considering the difficulty of the mission. Props to Abby for taking her time and making good decisions. It was enjoyable to watch.

All Systems Goku continues to be the best. This week, the boys unknowingly recreate the age-old fandom debate vis-à-vis Chi-Chi, with Jeff taking the position that she is the worst and needs to get on board with her husband's world-saving antics, and Dan, displaying a surprising amount of sympathy, correctly infers that she wound up married to Goku as a young and naive woman with no idea of what that would mean for her future life and prospects in real-world terms.

I love this show. So much so that I am willing to forgive it the fact that it periodically comes to a screeching halt as it devolves into twenty minutes of incoherent jibber-jabber about wrestling.

Jesus Christ you gave me a heart attack.

I thought he was leaving GB!

I miss the jibber jabber about wrestling so it's an added bonus for me.

The new episode of Ranking of Fighters was a lot of fun. I'm glad that they've brought this feature back.
