Amazing! Congrats. I was just watching all the finalist videos and was intrigued by Dicescrapers.

So the Monolith Games Batman Kickstarter is up. I love the Conan engine they are using. Thing costs both kidneys though for the whole shebang. It looks amazing.

Tried to post this last night on my phone and gave up in copy/paste frustration. LOVED the Conan mechanics and play, HATED the misogynist sexism. That system in the Batman Universe can be so good and a great transition from Gloomhaven. My best friend is getting it so life is good. Seriously, the game allows you to feel so powerful as the character you play. This could be the perfect board game marriage.

played through Lost Carcosa (up to the Pallid Mask scenario). So good! They keep surprising me with new, weird changes and tweaks to how each scenario (and even how the setup and story documentation) plays out.

Next chapter is ordered, then it's just one more to go! (presumably released in March. they seem to do these monthly).

Also akachi continues to be my go-to solo character of choice, by far.

That said, while i wait, i think i'll try a survivor character (probably Wendy) vs The Dunwich legacy again.

Fantastic!

So, before I left town last week, made an hour trek with my boardgaming buddy up to the largest FLGS in the DFW area, and that's now going to be a quarterly event, I think.

Walked away with Gloomhaven and Above and Below. Have at least cracked the box of GH and have attempted to play a game of Above and Below with my kids, but didn't have time before leaving town. Going to attempt to get through a full game with them tonight. The next project is getting GH organized. May pick up either the Broken Token or Daedalus organizer. Anyone got some other recommendations?

Check back on page 582 for some deliciousness on the Gloomhaven organization topic.

And the Gloomhaven Thread.

I've laser cut the pieces to replace my Plano storage system, but I haven't assembled it, yet. It was my first time using a laser cutter and some pieces come out quite right.

*spit take.* GLOOMHAVEN THREAD? How- Where- What-

INTERNET. You've been hiding from me again.

SO. As expected, Masks of Nyarlathotep totally screwed up my filing system for Eldritch Horror :O

...which meant I had to unpack everything and play a bit of inventory tetris to get everything to fit again.

Here's a look at mostly just the cards I now have to deal with 0_o

IMAGE(https://smackfolio.files.wordpress.com/2018/03/img_45101.jpg)

...and here's the result. I switched most of the non- playing card components over into the box I was using for the Great Old Ones / Elder Gods and move all of them back into the main box. Actually managed to fit everything with space to spare.

A surprisingly satisfying way to spend an hour or so on a Saturday morning.

As far as Masks itself...it was strange to find a new big box expansion without it's own side-board, but it seemed to make up for that in the sheer number of cards included (most of which were the new character progression cards - two cards per investigator for EVERY investigator from every expansion...which is a LOT of cards). Plus it almost doubles the number of scenario (?) cards in the game as well, although I've been playing without those of late because dammit...the game is hard ENOUGH!

It'll be a while before i get around to playing with the Nyarlathotep and Antidiluvean threats, but they certainly look interesting. And it's good to have some official 'campaign' rules included now, even if I'll probably never get around to playing it that way!

Yeah, the lack of a side board threw me a bit too. But the "personal stories" cards (or whatever they're called) made up for it.

Congrats, Frederick! It looks great! I have begun my first design prototype ever. It actually has much the same theme but quite different mechanisms. But, it does use dice and players build skyscrapers (but not with the dice), so I almost called it Dicescrapers as a temporary name...then I saw this. So I guess that is off the list! I am finding it incredibly difficult and rewarding to go through this process. But, as my first attempt in designing anything, I am sure I will fail many times moving forward.

Oh, that's awesome! Good luck on your design and you need a second set of eyes on it, feel free to send it my way.

Got in a first play of Spirit Island this weekend, with four players. I was leery about a first play with max player count as I had a feeling it would take a while for us to ramp up, and it did. We ended up winning with the "new player" setup using the four "low complexity" spirits.

It was a really good time, but if I had a do-over I would have done a test run at home prior to playing as learning a game of this complexity on the fly, having to continually reference the rulebook, was trying at times. At least it wasn't an FFG rulebook.

I liked it enough that I set it back up the next day at home and kicked off a solo game... which is typically not my thing.

Bhchrist and I played a 2 player game of Spirit Island on Tabletop Simulator yesterday, and it worked surprisingly well, despite us not really understanding all the controls for TS. There were a few times where we accidentally knocked the board around or lost track of cards, but we eventually figured it out.

We won handily with Spread of Rampant Green (BH) and Oceans Hungry Grasp (me) at the basic difficulty level. Next time we play we'll have to bump up the difficulty. The implementation on TS also has the promo spirits and the Branch and Claw expansion so i'd like to try that out as well.

I'd love to get some more folks together for a larger game of it sometime.

We also did a round of Azul on there, which was also cool. It was my first time playing, but I definitely want to play it some more.

By basic difficulty do you mean the "new player" setup, or the normal blight card + no power progression card setup?

No power progression cards (neither of those spirits have one anyway), regular blight card, no adversary, standard boards.

Cool, cool. On paper the 4-blight limit before sh*t hits the fan seems daunting, at least compared to the limit of 20 we had in easy mode.

I agree with Erik that, overall, it worked pretty well, especially considering both of us were trying to figure out the interface on the fly. Would enjoy trying it out again. Grabbing the physical copy of my Spirit board helped as does having the rules handy "just in case."

Clans of Caledonia was one we looked at also, and I see that it is available on Tabletopia under their "Free" game listing. As I mentioned a number of posts earlier, I think CofC is outstanding and prefer it to my plays of Terra Mystica, which it drew heavy inspiration from. My preference is likely due to Clans being (a): more streamlined and accessible, and (b): a really good two player experience. The fluctuating market feature is a neat mechanic, allowing access to goods you may not be producing, with the purchases and sales either driving the cost of future trades up or down.

I would be up for testing that out as well, especially given the licensed art used by Tabletopia.

The co-op cycle: My family loves co-op games and I love playing with my family. The problem gets to be that I'd make time to play board games every night, if I could. I'm not sure about everybody else and/or they actually have super important things that they do need to do. Sleep. Sleep is one of those things.

Anyway. I noticed a cycle wherein I start playing something solo, decide it is way too fun and draft some other family member in just to share the experience... and then I can no longer play. LOL.

I think I'm going to keep 7th Continent (our boat comes in tomorrow, I understand, and then the cards are shipped to a distributor... I assume we're something like weeks away from receiving some stuff!) and Mansions of Madness to myself.

I don't know why I'm sharing this experience. Not looking for solutions, just... thought it was funny. On top of this I'm watching Gloomhaven playthroughs (Tom Teaches is my current favorite) because nobody else seems to have time to play it... ugh. I sort of want to start a new campaign that stays a solo experience, but I'm not sure how to track all of that... and I'd feel weird about checking off entire scenarios that I could play with the family.

Might be time to establish a few official game nights, or something.

Blurb.

heh, I WISH i could find someone regular to play with that was interested in stuff like Arkham and Eldritch Horror! I'm happy enough playing them solo, but it would be nice to be able to bounce off of someone who was similarly into them and didn't just get bored and stop paying attention half way through and having to abandon the game

I

I'm also awaiting the arrival of 7th Continent and we should be receiving them by either the 3rd or 4th week of this month. Heck, maybe we'll get extremely lucky and they'll arrive sooner.

I'm currently working on organizing my copy of Gloomhaven (still!!) and hope to have a run of the first scenario this weekend, assuming the guys who want to play it can actually make it to my house. Otherwise, I'll have to push it off yet again.

I'm figuring I'll treat the household to one new family game every couple months. Jaipur in January, was pondering earlier what to purchase in March... Splendor, Century: Spice Road, Takenoko or possibly Machi Koro. Just received a voucher from one of those Amazon Video preview survey things, a little discount, so log in thinking decision time... What should pop up - Century Golum Edition up for pre-order in the UK - Yay, decision made!

Another 7th Continent backer here, had slipped my mind arriving in March - Now after saying to my wife that I'd be sensible in the buying of board games I might have a bit of explaining to do as to why a couple boxes are going to be turning up same week looks like.

UK GWJers meet up to play games at UK Games Expo June 1-3?

A local group usually makes the trip, if I can get the all clear work and family front I'd like to head up there for my first expo in 20+ years!

Edit. Ian Livingstone is there. Signed copy of Deathtrap Dungeon, yes please.
