Day One purchase! I'll fire it up as soon as I finish my current game of Civ6 Rise and Fall.

Into The Breach: The Kotaku Review

https://kotaku.com/into-the-breach-t...

Into the Breach is a hard game, and there will be inevitable losses no matter how well you play. My knowledge built on itself, and I slowly got better. Each of my new runs was inspired and informed by failure; each new success stood atop that. It may be a hard game, but the temptation to improve was irresistible. I didn’t want to stop playing.

Sounds like a great roguelike.

I played through the first island. I managed to beat the last level with one power left, and that was only after spending a solid 5-10 min going through the various combinations of actions.

It's unsurprisingly very clever and it feels much more like a pure puzzle game than FTL while still taking a lot of the fun stuff from FTL (upgrading, weapons, spending power, etc.)

This game is very good. I have already played it much too much today.

Nifty little game. Feels a lot less random than FTL, which is a big plus in my book.

It's a little easier than FTL, which I kind of appreciate. I saved a timeline on my third game. The trick now is unlocking new squads, which seems more difficult than saving timelines.

I want to rave about how much I love this, but I played it waay past my usual bedtime and currently lack the cognitive prowess to do words good.

Yuppp, this is real damn good. I've massacred so many timelines but I'm feeling my skill increase with each run. It is like Advance Wars on steroids. All I want to do is play more. Pesky employment!

It's fascinating how it's a game that gives you full information about all the possible outcomes and transparently telegraphs the enemies' actions, and yet somehow I STILL find myself trapped in completely unforseen clusterf*** turns.

But it's not quite that much. You don't see moves ahead of time, only guess, and you know where enemies will spawn but not which (unless I missed something in the small amount I played yesterday).

Into The Breach - Part 1 Gameplay Lets Play

Mr. Odd is a really fun streamer. His XCOM and Subnautica stuff is awesome.

Started last night, and that Kotaku review gets it right. I kept making small mistakes here and there, and as I progressed, felt smarter and smarter with every new trick I learned. Started reading some tips here and there, but there are many that don't immediately make sense (I imagine as I unlock the different pilots and mechs, that will change).

Into the Breeches is the title of my saucy Into the Breach fanfic

I'm really enjoying the game so far.

If someone didn’t really care for FTL is this game different enough that they might like it?

Thought I was so clever and blocked an attack with the missile rock thingie. However, the bad guy pushed the rock into the train which killed it... Like, ah, come on!!!!

Watch me fail!

It's pretty different, plays more like a puzzle game.

It's much less random. Yes, the maps are randomly generated, but you can see what the battlefield looks like ahead of time, choose which battles to fight, and you have almost complete control over your Mech placement and actions. There's no to-hit rolls or damage rolls, and the mistakes are all yours.

Question about the final mission:

Spoiler:

In phase 2 when you fall into the map and have to protect the bomb, tentacles sprang up out of nowhere and destroyed two of my mechs. Is this supposed to happen or is it avoidable?

Those are telegraphed a turn ahead like everything else. I believe they come from one of the specialty 2hp floating squid guys.

Don't have the game yet, but I gotta say, if you didn't like FTL.... what the heck? How could you not like FTL?!

Watching Certis "fail" was the final enablement. Purchase made! It's a lot of fun.

I liked FTL as a game, but I didn't like the anxiety it gave me as leading these innocent people to certain DOOM.

So yeah, FTL is great, I just can never play it.

But it's not certain doom! It's just very probable doom.

Spoiler:

The big tentacles are marked on the tile - look for a yellow border, as anything with a yellow border is an insta-kill. I also had the Renfield bomb drop on one Vex, which was awesome. :)

Just got my first win, using the Rusting Hulks smoke squad. The smoke took a little getting used to, but once you get the hang of it, it is very powerful - especially once the damage is upgraded.
