Vermintide 1 + 2

Apologies for a very disappointing finish last night. My (normally very solid) internet died. I just wish it hadn't gone as we were finally heading for the finish. It stings so much worse knowing we probably finally had it that time.

Edit: I now see that it was a scheduled upgrade, so double-sorry since I should have known. I guess I figured I'd be sleeping by then...

I'm now in the 30's on PC. I picked up all the DLC and can't put this game down.

My favorite character/loadout is the Dwarf with a 1H Hammer. The normal attack on the 1h hammer doesn't do much damage but will push back an unlimited number of enemies. The charge attack is a single-target overhead swing which works well for the armored Stormvermin.

Chart of damage numbers.

I've mostly played with bots and I've only completed one Nightmare mission. I should try to connect with some of you folks and play some of the advanced difficulty modes.

It happens. Now we know we can do it. The increased level of communication in that last game and focus on roles really worked for us. Now, if the WH would shoot the Ogre instead of watching it destroy the elf, we'll be in good shape.

Good loot today. Choices, choices.

Patch 1.8.3: New Stormdorf levels? Interested to see what this means when I get on tonight.

I didn't see anything about new levels in the patch notes. There are, however, lots of bot fixes that are already in Grimalact's mod (as well as a few that aren't). It's far from making the mod useless, as it doesn't include many of the best bits. Beyond the bot changes, it looks like it's mostly contract tweaks and bug fixes.

Went back to the post I saw this morning, and the text was updated from "added content for Stormdorf" to "added contracts for Stormdorf levels". Little bit of a difference there.

Also, another red weapon today! Unfortunately, even with today's keys I'll be one key short of clearing the red weapon I'm already working on.

The ranks have thinned a bit, but there is still activity almost every night if you're on PC, and I personally play several times a week. I often start sometime between 1930 and 2030 Pacific time, and there's almost always someone around by 2130. There is a Vermintide channel on the Twitch server for voice comms. Please drop in if anyone's around or hang out and wait for someone else to show. We typically play in private sessions with GWJers and friends only, and we're always happy to have a little new blood.

Had 4 on for several maps last night, got to knock out one of the new achievements. The group starts forming as early as 1130 pm eastern. Others may get on earlier, but midnight eastern is a pretty standard time.

This is what I mean. I'm locked on, I fire, and it goes over his shoulder. Then I get hit (I made sure of that).

That is wild - you can see the arrow's trail go right through the stormvermin's head, but no damage. I have no idea... maybe lag to the host, or maybe my PC was chugging and didn't register the hit (if that sort of thing is done on the host side). We could make a point of switching hosts next time you join up - it's probably silly to have the player with the weakest CPU host anyway. You may need to remind me though, as I will almost certainly forget.

As for getting body shots with trueflight when you've locked on long enough that you should be getting headshots, I swear this happens to me sometimes when a stormvermin is moving and facing away from me, but I have no idea if this is actually a thing or if it's just in my head.

I wish I could remember what I was laughing at when you captured that clip.

Now that I go and watch this video:

I see a few times, even in the first minute and a half or so, where jsat misses 'painted' targets. When I slow down the video I can find at least one time when the arrow goes right through like yours did. This video suggests that trueflight lockon is unreliable at very close range if you're putting any curve whatsoever on the shot (it seems like it still hits if the arrow flies straight to the crosshairs). My personal experience is that the lockon seems unreliable at very close range, particularly if you are in the middle of or have just completed a dodge, but I haven't tried to replicate any specific cases.

Close-up lockon is also a bit unreliable with bolt staff. Even with the target painted, if you try to curve the bolt it will just curve around behind the rat and hit nothing - at least with bolt you can switch to the primary attack, though.

So I yesterday I came across an announcement for Vermintide 2, which according to this article is coming out early next year. Not a whole lot of information yet, but looks like it could be a big step forward for the game.

The gameplay video has a list of features about 55 seconds in, I'll list what it says:

Improved Loot System
Talent Trees
New Enemies
Mod Support
Dedicated Servers
New Locations
...and much more.

I really like dedicated servers and mod support. The developers were engaged with the community for the first game, adding additional support for mods when modders asked for it. It looks like that will continue.

Dear God, Vermintide 2? I just started playing Vermintide this last week!

I dig the game, it's a lot of fun, but gotta admit I love Left4Dead2 more. It's scratching a nice itch at the moment, and I like the loot system and environment.

It may be a reskin of the L4D series, but who cares? It's a really good reskin.

Looks like a lot of the classes have leaked through Data mining. OR it seems like that since you get a 404 now all the posts showing the evidence. I can post them if you guys like.

Generally it seems to break down into a offensive leaning, flexible , defensive trifecta. With various unique factors for each archetype.

Release of VT2 is March 8, since this thread has been languishing. I think the next round of beta starts this weekend, but I'm waiting until Feb 28, when they plan on resetting progress.

I'm keen to play VT2, but for whatever reason I'm not that keen to participate in the beta (this has happened to me with other games as well, must be betaphobia). I plan to be there at release.

If anyone's worried that there will be no GWJers to play with, worry not. There are a couple of us (Emmes/captainchaos and I, as well as one or two others who pop in occasionally) that still regularly play Vermintide 1, and I'm sure we'll also be there for VT2. I've run into several others popping into the Twitch/Curse channel to say that they plan to play VT2. Everyone's friendly and almost always patient.

From the tidbits I've seen, it's going to be great!

I’ve played the beta and now looking forward to the next beta tomorrow. This one should not wipe characters unless there is an issue that forces them to. Fun game!

Central time in the midwest here, but also picked it up. I never touched the DLC for the first, so thinking this next week I may go back and do that. Similarly, I have some sort of mental block about playing betas (probably a layover from participating in various MMO betas years ago).

I am West coast but my work schedule seems to make my playtimes align more with people in the east coast. I am thinking of picking this up as I played a little of the first game and enjoyed it but never got in too deep. Always love to play coop games.

Did anyone figure out the keybind for Saltzy's pistol fire while holding the rapier? It's not listed in the keybindings, and Reddit-ers keep mentioning that it is there, but not WHAT it is.

Also, are we keeping VT2 discussion here or opening a new thread?

Also, it’s the 28th. Does the beta include features to organize a group yet? I didn’t check.
