Hunt: Showdown - Catch All

Next up in the Battle Royale format (with a twist) comes Hunt: Showdown.

It's been in alpha for a few months now and today officially opened up for Early Access on Steam.

The setting is creepy as hell and the tension added with other players gives you a lot of jump out of your seat moments.

Tonally this seems more in line with the gameplay that Battle Royale games offer.

Played a bunch in Alpha. It is certainly a much more creepy play. The shooting feels fine and the netcode is pretty good unlike most EA games lately. It is a bit more arcade like shooting though after coming from something like pubg. Great game though although much for fun with a friend than solo.

You beat me to making the post! I bought in on the Early Access. I was disappointed I didn't get the alpha but I just spent the money I made playing PUBG to buy this.

I am really digging it! I like tracking down clues to find the bounty and I really really love the environment. I can't believe the attention to detail. Every square foot of the map just feels handcrafted and not randomly generated. The PVE/PVP hook is really awesome.

I've only completed one bounty so far I love it and can't wait to play with all of you instead of randos.

Bought it and looking forward to teaming up with GWJer's!

It's a very pretty looking game. It's simple in a lot of ways, compared to other games, but it still has all it needs to get things done. Definitely obviously early access when you have to deal with UI and options as well, but it feels very rewarding when you're able to escape with a bounty.

I LOVE how much a common occurrence this statement is these days!!

This looks very cool. I love the graphic detail.

This is being developed by Crytek with their engine so it's going to have a very high fidelity. The other bonus is that the performance is top notch along with it.

I may have to give this a try as my break for PUBG. I've been trying to get into Overwatch but just can't seem to get excited about it. I think I just waited too long to get into it and now feel so far behind the ball that it feels hopeless to catch up.

I'd also like to note with all the EA games lately with really bad netcode. The game has bugs (mostly with interface). However through both alpha and what I noticed today the netcode seems solid.

Bugs are one thing as it’s still early but stable netcode is great to hear!

I'm in as well. This'll be my break game from Kingdom Come.

So scary monsters, permadeath, PvP... is the goal give the player a heart attack?

Do note the gas has been having some matchmaking/teaming up issues. They had these earlier in the alpha. Had most of them worked out but with increased players they came back last night. Now, This is not rare for a AAA game little long a EA game on launch so does not bother me. However, something to be aware of.

Hunt: Showdown is a terribly generic name for this. Sounds like one of those arcade cabinets you see in Wal-Marts where you shoot whitetails with a 12-gauge lightgun.

Yes. It has great atmosphere.

There are some great videos on YouTube that show gameplay. A lot of the Tarkov community is very interested in the game. Might need a better name but the game looks fantastic.

Definitely EA... Played 2 games one with bounty extracted where due to a server error i got 0 results and everything reset back to what it was before it started.

I've got a copy and am down for teaming up. Steam Id in sig.

Jump into the Discord - some of us were playing earlier

Had a good quick round with Tempest earlier. We didnt escape with the Bounty, but we had an epic shootout near the extract. Everyone died. It was pretty cool.

Same same. If they're too lazy to have a secondary logging source that they periodically rebuild from in order to prevent this happening, the least they could do is monitor connectivity to whatever the stats host is, and broadcast to the players on the server that they can freely quit because this one won't count.

Yeah, seems offpeak is fine currently but during peak it's having issues. Which if it was selling like cake and 100k active players i'd be like ok they didn't expect. However, steamstats showed during peak they are at under 10k. They should be able to handle 10k before going to early access.

First hotfix patch. Most of bugs i've hear of or seen addressed. As long as they fix the co-op joining issues I'll be very happy.

Picked this up the other day. Interested in something a little more PVE than PUBG or Tarkov but still with the general feel of those.

Honestly, the Pve is often, but not difficult. The only time you should die in PvE is when you get PvE'd during a PvP.

Just a note, hopefully this patch fixed it but if not the game has been great when not having matchmaking errors. However, when the matchmaking is crap it is crap. I usually only play withing 6 hours after server resets. They have been doing about 2 a day at different times. They announce on discord. That being said hopefully it's fixed.

From the vids I’ve seen, it seems the PVE is more about forcing ammo control and providing location info for other teams than providing difficult fights. But at least there is a reason for it (naked hatchet runs), makes it so you can hire your next hunter if you’re cash strapped.

Have I got the gist of it? Again, I haven’t actually played yet.

Yeah, you need to get clue's for money though. PvE only gives XP. Other than that mostly.

Correct. If you were to play this on a server without other players, the PvE portion would be utterly trivial and dull.

The environmental hazards are there to either make you make noise or funnel you down paths you might not wish to take. The monsters are there to make you make noise and to swarm you if you get noisy around them during a fight with another player.

Even the bosses are easily "exploited" by ducking in and out of doors and rooms they won't walk through. They just force you to make noise over an extended period of time, provide sound cover for other players working their way in to kill you, and hold terrain to make one of your lines of retreat unsafe.

You have the option of trying to creep through everything, but we generally just crank through clues as fast as we can to get to the boss, preferring not to shoot but not worrying about it too much if there's an inconvenient bee lady or big guy. Then we either kite the boss around with double shotguns or have one person guard while the other kills the boss, depending on the location and our armaments. Banish, pick an exit, go. This works most games; on average we kill 2-4 other hunters on a successful run, and we're in and out quickly.

The game is set up so it's easier to carry the bounty out than it is to track and kill a person carrying a bounty, and yet people bizarrely prefer to let us kill the boss and complete banishing before they make a play.

Thanks, escher and Crinkle. When are people playing? I haven’t seen people in the Twitch channel in the few days that I’ve been looking.
