NFL 2018 Offseason Thread

At the risk of triggering Enix and Vector with more B*rstool Sports...

Blake Bortles was on the Pardon My Take podcast, and when asked about if he had an exit interview with Tom Coughlin:

"Our exit interview consisted... he came in the locker room kinda, we had a team meeting Monday morning, and I'm sitting in the locker room cleaning my stuff out, throwing stuff away, and he walks by and said, 'hey, that was a good 1st half you played the other day'... I go 'thank you' ... and he turned around and walked away. That was my exit interview."

Guys, I don't think Tom Coughlin is sold on Blake Bortles, Franchise Quarterback. I can only imagine him shaking his head, thinking that Bortles was too stupid to get the backhanded comment.

f*ck Barstool sports.

Really seems like Bortles is in the way out.

My thinking is that the Jags make a run at Cousins, though the odds might not be in their favor given that the Jets seem like they're going to be willing to give him insane salary, all the guaranteed money, a key to the city, a statue, and Woody Johnson's prettiest granddaughter (not that Kirk has eyes for anyone but Julie).

Failing that, I think they look at going into the season with Bortles competing for the job with another QB. Could be a free agent (hey Bridgewater, how's that knee?), or a draft QB that makes it to the end of round 1 or 2.

Bridgewater would be especially fun in a "guy we should have drafted instead of Bortles" way, at least since getting Derek Carr instead isn't an option.

Blake Bortles has more postseason wins than Derek Carr.

Bortles and Carr had weirdly almost identical statistics last year . Like, really, really close. So, logically, they're QBs of equal quality.

Or, put another way:

Q: How do you create a QB like Blake Bortles?
A: Take Derek Carr and break his back.

Don't forget all the WRs having stone hands.

Carr was on the radio recently and revealed Amari Cooper was playing "on one foot".

When I read that, I wanted to ask how that stopped his hands from working.

Jarvis Landry tagged by the Dolphins. Last year, 112 catches. For 987 yards. 8.8 ypc; that's an insanely low average for that many catches. I barely watched the Dolphins last year, so I'm assuming he just Art Monks his way to an endless series of hook routes?

Marvin Jones led the league with 18 yards/catch, more than double Landry.

Our former office manager did just this as well.. about 2 years before her 37th birthday she started training like mad and taking classes to become an FBI agent.. I didnt give her much chance to succeed but lo and behold she did and became an Agent with a few days to spare. I was very impressed and proud of her.

Nah, more the opposite. Even with only 987 yards, Landry was 2nd among NFL WRs in yards after the catch. Rather than 8 yard hooks and falling forward a yard, Jay Cutler threw the ball 2 yards and Landry ran it through the defense for the other 7.

Landry's a gamer, he breaks tackles like a running back. He could do damage on a more explosive offense.

Yeah, Landry is a talent. He'd do really well on the Patriots.

No joke there, he really would.

I would normally disagree but you are probably right.. another Slot receiver would somehow work 100% fine in NE. I'm hoping the Eagles trade for Bryant.. I'm thinking Kendricks for Bryant and then we resign Bradham.

Remember Jonathan Martin, the target of Richie Incognito's bullying in Miami?

Well, he's not having a good day, and is currently in police custody.

Chiefs are trading Marcus Peters to the LA Rams.

Bummer, but I think they were ready to be done with his antics. Will be interested to see what they got. Rumor is that it is a package of picks, but no players.

Jags extend Coughlin, Marrone, and Dave Caldwell all through 2021.

Now find a quarterback, guys.

Totally missed the Smith trade.

Packers get 4 compensatory picks.

Brings the total to 12. Really interested to see what they do in free agency + the draft considering the front office and coaching changes.

Rodgers is 34 already but apparently being 40 and playing is still plausible? Regardless the window is going to start closing.

Wtf? Like, really, wtf?

Now that's what I want to hear:

Jaguars are actively exploring their quarterback options

It's time for a different fanbase to catch BORTLESMANIA.

Will jaguars sign Blake Bortles to a long-term deal?

Duck season! Wabbit season!

OH NO

NOT AGAIN

They should still draft a QB.

They gave him Mike Glennon money, which seems apt. They're going to draft a QB and groom him a year then start him next, but keep Bortles for next season then cut him free.

This is likely the best option since they're getting an okayish starter at okayish money. Better than overpaying for Bradford. And we all know they couldn't afford Cousins.

If they draft someone like Lamar Jackson, I will be less unhappy.

If they draft no QB early, I will be very unhappy.

I get signing Bortles to a deal that, if against all odds he suddenly turns a corner, you have him tied down and can keep him. But that's assuming the majority of that guaranteed money is in year 1. Waiting until I see the contract details before I step down from DEFCON 3.

*Legion*, you're my bro and I love you, but I had to do this:
