Perdita - An Ongoing GWJ Community 5e Game - OOC Thread

Is the rule for AL characters that stats are the standard block, or point buy, or rolling? I know I read somewhere which of those it is, but I'm on my work computer and can't verify without things looking off.

AL characters can use either standard array or point buy. No rolling.

I think I've got a concept, just playing around with details at the moment.

I can play on Saturdays but not weekly. I could maybe do Sundays but my Shadowrun game plays on Sundays so that will be trickier to schedule and sadly I just don't have time to learn to GM right now

I have a few characters made up, one I have used and 2 or 3 that are waiting for an opportunity. It looks like we have enough people interested now. I don't know how to get the materials, but it shouldn't be difficult. Ideally we can just share them with the interested DMs and go from there.

I think we should keep the Perdita format for scheduling the same. A DM posts an adventure and people sign up for the suggested time slot. If people want to do weekly games with the same group, that's a little different than what I think we have here, but of course feel free to do that if you want.

Agreed. Any particular sheet format or should we keep using Obsidian Portal?

Setting up a space for Wald Greaves, cantankerous paladin of Lathander.

I'd also be willing to gm a little bit. Mostly done Edge of the Empire stuff, but a little D&D shouldn't be too tricky.

I'm game for Obsidian portal, but curse also has an official one built I wanted to try as well, although unusual races might need to buy in for some amount. I think it is piece by piece.

I want to line up my halfling monk and a firbolg druid.

The D&D Beyond one? Cool! I started playing around with that and bought a couple small pieces to test out how it works, so I'm good either way. One minor annoyance is that the D&D beyond builder doesn't seem to have the regional languages from the Sword Coast Adventurer's guide implemented yet - there's been an open feature request for them since last August.

Also doesn't look like any of the feats are implemented, at least not for human variant character creation. Or they've substantially changed the rules on feats since I got my copy of the Player's Handbook.

Just searched through the forums, and Feats haven't been added to DDB yet. The only way to do anything with feats right now is to change your ability modifiers to reflect the bonuses the feats provide. According to one of the mods, the feature is "coming in a future version".

Hey manta, anything we can do to help you set this up? I'd be willing to do some work and not just bug you about it on forums.

lol Sorry I have been not posting much lately... I lost my job and have been pretty busy trying to tie up loose ends and put out my resume so the forums are a lot lower priority... woulda thought I had more time...

I just need to track down the Adventure League one-offs available and set up a google drive folder or some other method to share them with DM's then pick a night for a trial run/ first game.

We also probably want a google doc to list characters to help people keep track of what adventures are viable to run.

Spoiler:

Ok, now I just need to get this seasons AL content and put it in the folder...

Wow, the WotC system for delivering downloaded content may be the worst delivery system I've ever seen. I downloaded all the Adventurer's league starter stuff. Which was far more of an ordeal than you might think.

Is there a good place to find all the stuff WOTC has put out for free over the years? I seem to recall that they've made some of the extra races and subclasses from some of the adventure and setting books available but I'm not entirely sure where and the best place to find it would be. Just D&D Beyond maybe?

I don't know of one either. A few bits are collected at dmsguild.com, but mostly things are scattered around their website.

I've set up a game for general use on Roll20! After lots of playing around and fiddling, I'm finally pretty happy with the state of it.

You can check out the game's front page or sign-up your character. If you're interested in DMing, let me know and I can promote you! I'd love to see if other DMs can access and use the assets I've been importing.

Let me know if it works for you!

Good link for free Adventurer's League stuff:

https://skaldforge.wordpress.com/201...

I'm looking at three different characters depending on how the rest of the party shakes out:

Laruc Geran, an con-man who loves a good con more than the proceeds of that con.
Wald Greaves, an old paladin with a murky past.
Langley Vandal, the answer to a question I once asked myself: "What if Han Solo were a wizard?"

Just checking...did you choose a character sheet template? I've joined the game on Roll20, but I can't create my character in the game. (I'm fairly new to Roll20, so I may be missing something)

I'm new to being behind the screen on Roll20 myself, so I didn't realize I had to add a character for each new player after they join.

Everyone should have a blank character sheet at their disposal now!

If you'd like a custom token for your character, with this handy tool you can create one in minutes. After you've made it, upload it here or to the Twitch D&D chat channel (if you choose Twitch, also send me a PM plz). I'll upload it and it will be available in game. If you'd like to play a shapeshifter or if you want your token to have multiple outfit or customization options, upload all the images you'd like included and I can create a custom token that you can use to switch between the images.

If you folks are planning on following the Adventurer's League rules, then the only allowable free content is in the Elemental Evil Player's Companion.

Otherwise, there's a ton of free Unearthed Arcana content. It's all unfinished playtest material though, a lot of which has been revised and reprinted in the newer books.

Kronen,

Check your settings. I still don't have access to a character sheet. This forum post on Roll20 may help:

Worth noting that you can only use one additional source per player besides the Player's Handbook and campaign documentation.

Well it looks like only one is available to me anyways so that's weird but fine I guess

I think it's a reasonable step taken to avoid some rando lugging in a small library into his local game shop, then painstakingly flipping through seven volumes every round to find the one trinket that allows him to min/max his sorceror/warlock/barbarian. Likely that this is not a pre-emptive solution.

The "PHB+1" rule applies to all published books (Sword Coast Adventurer's Guide, Volo's Guide to Monsters, and Xanathar's Guide to Everything), plus the Elemental Evil Player's Companion. So there are multiple sources, just only one free one.

Spoiler:

Maybe also worth noting that a lot of the EEPC content has been re-published in the other books:
- Svirfneblin in SCAG
- Goliath in VGtM
- All spells (with a few tweaks) in XGtE

The only EEPC content that hasn't been re-published at this point are the Aaracockra (not AL-legal anyway) and Genasi player races.

Hey all!

I'm feeling much more confident in my Roll20 and Adventure League prep and would like to run Hoard of the Dragon Queen for you all. Our intrepid adventurers will be called upon to defend the nearby town of Greenest!

Here's the Doodle sign-up including all the dates I'm available to run a game! If we get 3 or more on a night, I'm hoping to run a session in the setting! HotDQ can last anywhere from 3-5 sessions, so we'll see where the setting takes us. If there's enough interest, I'll run more than 1 game a week.

If you'd rather not use the doodle, the dates in question are:

April 2, 4, 6, 7, 13, 14, 16, 19, 22, and 23. All nights are 7pm Eastern US time until ~10-11pm.
If you'd rather pm me your availability, that would be fine too!

Send me a PM if you have any trouble with inputting characters or abilities into Roll20! It's not entirely necessary and we can potentially work something out. If you'd like to work in some in-character knowledge for the setting, I'd love to accommodate! Send me a PM and we can setup a time to chat!

Looking forward to it!

Just a quick follow-up to answer a question or two. Signing up on the Doodle isn't committing to a date per se. When 3 people sign-up for a date, I'll come back to thread and make that date official. On that night, I'll run a session for whomever shows up. If your availability changes for whatever reason, don't worry about it! The Doodle right now is basically an interest check.

I've removed April 6th from the Doodle dates because my in-person group has claimed that date. Direct any complaints to fellow Goojer Osiran
