I've put a moratorium on buying new games until I get some of the older games on the table more often (or sell them).

Wrong thread? Game is a bit depressing but pretty good nonetheless.

Yup, Got mixed up switching between the threads when I saw the topic. I was asking about the board game version, not video game. Reposting the question over in the Board Game Thread.

Oh cool, I could see that making a good board game.

Speaking of boardgame Kickstarters, there are only five days to go on Western Legends. I haven't backed anything in a good while, and nothing since I stopped hosting boardgame nights thanks to Hurricane Harvey, but this is probably going to break my fast. It's an old West "sandbox" game that's coming out in the same year (and potentially, time frame) as Red Dead 2.

The only other "sandbox" boardgame I'm familiar with is Xia, which I haven't gotten to the table yet (see aforementioned life event). It, too, uses a mechanic of playing to X victory points, and get them however you like.

Huh, looks like no one has yet posted Tiny Epic Zombies. It's Gamelyn's highest backed project ($620k) and has a week left. Play solo, coop, coop vs 1, competitive (free for all), or competitive vs 1 (free for all, 1 player is zombies).

There is a new Kickstarter for Xia if folks are interested in picking up the base game and all expansion content. They are also releasing new "Missions and Powers" mini expansion with a bunch of new mission cards and a whole new set of power cards for all previously released ships.

I don't need a game like that right now

For what it's worth, the game is a ton of fun.

The authors' previous game, Alas For The Awful Sea, is really cool, too.

Also, whether or not you care about Jane Austin-based content, Marrying Mr. Darcy is a fantastic card game with a great amount of strategy and good mechanics.

Interesting. The magicless medieval multplatform RPG I backed long ago, Kingdom Come: Deliverance, appears not to be vaporware after all!

Dear backers,

last few weeks and especially days were really hectic! We were able to complete and send 10.000 packages to 70 countries and now we are updating profiles for you - our backers - to get you even closer to the rewards. Please remember, that the game and some other rewards will be playable/available on the release date, February 13th, not sooner.

Thank you!

.

Profile updates
We have made a lot of updates in our database, but the most important for you are:

Tracking number for physical packages added, for the high backers even two of them for game and sword.
Steam login added for digital rewards including game, soundtrack or art book (for all eligible backers). OST and art book will be available only trough Steam.
PS4 code added, one for both game and pre-order bonus.
Two Xbox codes added, one for game and one for pre-order bonus.
Some digital rewards will be added in a matter of days - game scenario, poster/map or figure for 3D printer.
Selected tiers with two licences can see the first platform according to your choice (PC/Xbox/PS4) and the second is a Steam key.
Please login to your profile on our website and check it!

Missing in action
While preparing the rewards, we discussed some of the original ideas we had for Kickstarter and decided to find a different way how to deal with them.

Making of movie is already in production, but we decided to make it complete and add the important parts of the last months of development. That is the reason, why it couldn't make it to the boxes before release date.
We skipped the printed manual, and focused on the nice in-game help instead.
Some Soldier tiers are missing Steam codes. Sorry about that, please contact us.
High tier backers with the sword & shield need to wait little longer for that, but already in production.
Metal box was maybe nice idea, but not that practical. Limits in the production, big weight and high price were against it and we rather choose the nice paper box.
Different sizes of the T-shirt was too much, there was about 60 different combinations of packages and adding S-XXL variation to that would be insane.
Nevertheless the most important reward for you and especially for us is the game and we are eagerly awaiting your feedback to playing Kingdom Come: Deliverance!

If there is something missing, please contact our support.

THANK YOU ALL!

ESTIMATED DELIVERY
Dec 2015

Looks like....huh....there's a catch-all already, nice.

Yeah, well, people are pissed. A lot of people are out a large amount of money, having only received half of what they paid for.

I think the biggest problem is that Palladium tried to satisfy everyone and ended up with overly complicated minis that were fragile and a pain to put together. That ended up driving their design costs way over expectations.

Yikes so many internet lawyers! Those comments are pretty bad.

If I had a dollar for every internet post claiming legal knowledge or threatening a lawsuit I could get my own law degree.

Though this is why I don't give money on Kickstarters with the expectation that I'll ever get it back. I don't spend money that I'm going to miss, and I don't expect to ever see a refund. Because, outside of an outright scam, at the point the thing has failed all the money is long gone.

Like this comment someone over there made:

How do you overspend by 2060%.

If you've ever run a business, you know the answer to this one is: really, really easily. Prices change, production costs overrun, shortages happen.

That said, Kickstarter and other forms of crowdfunding generally seem to be better for last-mile production rather than funding design and development. They made some missteps, one of which from their description was probably that they weren't willing to compromise on quality when they probably should have.

I've funded a lot of Kickstarters at this point, mostly for relatively small amounts (even for stuff I'm excited about I never do the big tiers, partially because I don't need extra physical stuff in my life at this point). A handful have failed, a few more have had massive schedule slips but are still at least somewhat active. Otherwise, I've gotten the vast majority of the stuff I pledged for.

I don't know if my results are unusual. I think I'm somewhat better than the average, at least from the stories I sometimes see--the real going-down-in-flames projects seem to be stuff that I saw as problematic ahead of time. But maybe that's survivor's bias.

You don't sound too prone to wishful funding. The complainers are.

I don't think I've partaken of a failed Kickstarter, but I've been in less than a dozen, I think.

So, who does have the Robotech license now?

I would watch the heck out of those. They would be almost as entertaining as Chick Tracts.

And probably better than listening to Minmei singing.

I'm already a backer! You should all back it too.

No way I'd back a game with such minimal play footage. I have no idea what it will even be, or that it will even be.

All he's got is a few static screens, really.
