Same here, unless it's a history thing about the fall of Rome or whatnot.

Hardcore history? That one podcast was 6 hours long... And there are hundreds of episodes ...

I f***ing love Dan Carlin's 2 shows - Hardcore History, and Common Sense. Sure, they're long, but "edutainingtional"(tm)

I love Common Sense, but it appears Dan's stepped back from them for a while. I can't really blame him.

My current list: (I'm including the couple gaming casts)

99% Invisible - un-noticed "design" from fonts to park-benches
Adam Ruins Everything - deeper interview than the YT shorts
Bloody Good Horror - long-running, horror-movie review show
Bonfireside Chat - Souls-borne and adjacent ("finished")
Check it out, Comrade! - indie-games discussions/reviews (hasn't updated in a while)
Comedy Film Nerds - mostly current movies
Common Sense with Dan Carlin - his "lighter show"
Daft Souls - the Cool Ghosts guys - very good, but hasn't updated in ages. I think they're YT-only, now
Dan Carlin's Hardcore History - long, deep dives on topics, moments, and people in history. Great! Doesn't update often, but that's not good thing.
Freakonomics Radio - economics, but not "super-nerdy" (or I'm too nerds to notice its "nerdiness")
Gamers with Jobs - Conference Call - Ummm, duh...
HatchetJob.com - idgaf's gaming podcast (he hasn't updated since 2014, but I still keep it in my list )
Horroretc Podcast - updates, maybe 2 or 3 times a year.
How To Murder Time - my podcatcher keeps dropping this one "not a valid xml feed", but they haven't changed anything on their feed. One of my favourites.
I Saw That Years Ago - idgaf's movie show, it's really great... even when he's so wrong about the movie
Idle Thumbs - I used to love it, but I feel like I'm drifting away. I only do the main show, I don't bother with the "ruination casts" anymore
Inquiring Minds - mostly a "where politics and science collide" show
Life on the Swingset - multiple shows included in this stream. Not only multi/polyamory and sexuality, but relationship advice/discussions - it's not just for Jonman
MojoMenace.com - the old Drunken Gamers Radio guys (after the loss of Hilden) - I'm so glad they continued. Three guys shootin'-the-sh*t, only a little talk of gaming.
Oh No Ross and Carrie - I f***ing love this show. "We participate in fringe science, and claims of the paranormal, so you don't have to." - mediums, get-rich-quick schemes, scientology...
Point of Inquiry - very similar to Inquiring Minds (I forget which one split out from the other)
QuackCast - an MD on quack medicine. Hasn't updated in ages
Radio Free Mid-world - working their way through the "Dark Tower" books, with some adjacent topics
Space Game Junkie - Veloxi's gaming cast - interviews with space-game devs (usually). Enjoyable, maybe a little long, could tighten up a bit, but it drips with enthusiasm by guys that LOVE space games. It's kind of adorkable.
Stop Podcasting Yourself - 2 Vancouver comics talking with other comedians. I used to listen to Jordan, Jessie, Go (very much the same), but I only do SPY, now.
The Idle Book Club - intelligent, infrequent
The Library Police - 2 book nerds talk books. Love it! (trichy, and cohost). I really like it a lot.
The Skeptics' Guide to the Universe - another long-time favourite
We Hate Movies - another "bad movie" podcast

I like Cane and Rinse. A few of their episodes made for great company on my overseas flights in November. My first episode was the one about Max Payne 3, a game I had very high hopes for but ended up hate-finishing it in frustration. I was appalled at the level of praise it got from the podcast, however in the end I also came to appreciate the handful of things the game did well. And of course, I appreciated the extent the hosts went to in their deep dive.

The episodes are grueling though. I have yet to listen to one from start to finish.

Thank you very much! I know we can get a little long, but brevity has never been a strong suit of mine.

I'm embarrassed to admit that I didn't know you had an audio podcast. I thought you only did video. I just subbed.

Wow, thank you very much!

Myke Hurley from RelayFM's Remaster podcast has teamed up with his friend Tiffany Arment to create a podcast called Playing For Fun, which is basically a positive celebration of loving games. The first episode is on Super Mario Odyssey because of course it is.

I lost my Instacast when I updated iOS so switched to the iOS Podcast app ( hate it... ) and seed my feed again.

I added the Conference Call and the RPG feed and another RPG live play I decided to listen to. I also added one from this thread, Waypoint Radio, and another that I'm not sure where/why I added it, Cooptional Podcast.

I tried Cooptional first and couldn't make it to the halfway point of the episode. Too much cursing that suire feels like it's there for effect and it reminded me of an Actual Play RPG podcast I used to listen to where some of the players were pandering to the microphone instead of just playing. I got too much feeling from Cooptional that they were trying too hard for the mic vs. having a good discussion. Deleted.

Waypoint was better. I'm good with the Austin guy; he seems to be able to put together coherent thoughts and speaks well. The gal ( Danielle? ) tries a little too hard sometimes but it's not constant like I felt with Cooptional. In the 3 or 4 episodes I've listened to, she's said some insightful things and had takes on a subject that made me think outside normal zone. I like Rob's angle on the subjects and enjoy his humor. The 4 "likes" per sentence drives me bananas and I would have stopped listening to the podcast by now just because of that if his content wasn't so good. The 4th dude I can completely do without. I don't remember his name, but I just don't like him.

Thanks for posting that list above, Wink, and the other suggestions, folks. I'll check some of them out.

And if you know of a good podcast app for iOS, let me know, please. I don't care if it's free or paid, as long as it's solid and has minimal input needed for switching from one cast to another while I'm driving.

That'll be Patrick. REwind...

Am still listening on and off, I am trying to not be so put off by the chap...

Bep, I like overcast. You can build a dynamic playlist so it will auto play new episodes of how ever many shows you put on the playlist.

I love Castro, and nobody talks about it.

Castro

Instead of downloading every podcast, it goes to your inbox. I have like 190 podcasts in your inbox, and then I download the ones I want to listen to so episodes I haven't gotten to yet don't clog my phone. I'd check it out.

I like the one that everyone talks about, pocketcasts. Haven't tried others though to compare. Pocketcasts definitely has some drawbacks, like it names the files garbage instead of their actual file names. And you can't add files you download from somewhere else and have a podcast feed recognise them as available.

On the plus side you can make playlists and automatically add things like other ones have.

I also switched to Pocket Casts a long while back and haven't looked back.

The feature I use the most with Pocketcast is "Up Next". If you are listening to a podcast you can find the one you want to play next with little input, and without disturbing whatever you are currently listening to.

In the list of features listed in the App Store, it says that it stores stuff in the cloud so you can pick up a podcast on a one device where you left off on another device. Does this app require you to create an account with them?

It doesn't require it, but it if you want the cloud features then, yes.

Well, it's been fun, but my wife and I decided to hang it up. Last week was our official last episode.

We might do some other media-related stuff. I'm set up to do some streaming, and now that I'm not recording and producing a show every week I have more bandwidth to do that, and my wife mentioned wanting to do a board-gaming instagram feed.

Thanks to everyone who subscribed and listened!

Aw man, sorry to hear, but good to know you're both still trying to find pursuits that work for you.

I'm a fan of Gary Whitta and he's been co-hosting the Kinda Funny Games Daily show every Wednesday. It's been a nice background podcast to listen to. They also have a weekly Kinda Funny Gamescast, which I haven't checked out yet.

Pro tip: For shows like this that stream live on Twitch, I discovered you can listen on iPhone by setting the quality to 'Audio Only' and then you can listen in the background.

Checking it out

I used to do the Laserbeards Gaming podcast with another guy, but the 2 hour format drained us and we couldn't continue with it.. but now, we've added a third guy and chopped it down to 1 hour, and have gone with a new name. The Clod of War podcast. It's still about gaming. But with more insight, and less bibble.

LOL I can't believe someone would ask for this https://twitter.com/SongExploder/sta...

And uhh since I'm resurrecting the thread... what are ya'll listening to these days? Any new up and comers that I'm missing out on? I've pretty much just settled on Giant Bomb and Game Informer over the last year or so...

I don't listen to podcasts as often these days as my job has calmed considerably for the time being. When I do, it's usually Remaster, Zoso and Gamerparent's The Magic Hour, or something stupid like Let's Fight a Boss on YouTube. Otherwise I've just kind of stopped because most podcasts fail to be what I want, which is just a crew of friends having a good time conversing (which is largely why I listen to Let's Fight a Boss).

Speaking of those precise things Eh! Steve! is my podcast for anyone that forgot and boy howdy was the latest episode fun to record. I keep having friends that don't even game tell me they love listening so I guess that's a good thing.

I need one. I keep trying to listen to Waypoint and failing my save vs. Klepek and my saves vs. "like" and "actually".

I'll check out Giant Bomb and GI. I'll try out TMA, too, but if Rob says "like" every third word there, I won't be able to keep with it. Sorry, Rob. You have good things to say, I just can't do it. It's me, not you...

Spoiler:

It's you. Stop saying "like" so much.

I've listened to maybe 10 - 15 episodes of "Cane and Rinse" from their backlog since I found this thread last January. There are a lot of episodes that don't interested me at all but I really liked the ones I listened to. I love the format.

-BEP

I tend to cherry pick episodes, as I don't have time to listen to all of these, but my priority list tends to be: Giant Beastcast -> Game Informer Show -> Kinda Funny Games Daily -> Waypoint Radio -> Kotaku Splitscreen -> Giant Bombcast -> DLC

Game Informer has moved way up my priority list because a) Ben Hanson is a zany weirdo that often steers the show in hilarious directions and b) timestamps. I love timestamps that let me easily pick and choose what to listen to.

I haven't seen anyone else mention Kotaku Splitscreen, but I think it's well worth checking out if you haven't before. Jason Schrier and Kirk Hamilton are much better at articulating their thoughts and finding interesting angles for discussion than just about any other show I've listened to. I think only Waypoint has them beat in that regard.

Kinda Funny Games Daily wouldn't be on this list at all if it weren't for their timestamps. I don't have time for a 50 minute show 5 days per week. I do have time to cherry pick 5-20 minutes of discussion I'm interested in from individual episodes by using their wonderfully descriptive timestamps. I understand why not everyone does this, but I sure wish they did.

Any recommendations for a Game Development podcast?

I haven't listened to any of them yet but here is a list of Unity centric ones.
