Playstation 4 Games Catch-All

Is there a way to unlock the camera from the player in SotC photo mode? I could trundle it around some, but not de-couple it, which I'd really like to.

I hadn't thought of a thumb drive. That's probably easiest.

I'm gonna say something potentially controversial:

I'm not sure Shadow of the Colossus is a very good game.

I feel like I've spent more time fighting the shonky physics than fighting the giant monsters. There's also a lot of times where you've figured out exactly what you need to do, and then it takes forever to do it because you're waiting for the monster to move somewhere or do something.

Colossus 12:

Spoiler:

The hint guy said "move to higher ground". Well, that wasn't helpful because I couldn't see any to move to. Consult walkthrough, oh swim around behind him and climb up his back. Cool. Except if he's moving, it takes ages to get where you need to, with the camera freaking out all the time. Get up there, neat you can drive him around. Oh, okay, drive him to a platform and jump off. Cue wonky jumping mechanics that made me miss two attempts first, so swimming back to climb up again.

Cool, he jumps up, I jump on his belly and stab away. Sure, he drops back in when he's half dead. Swim, drive, platform, jump. Oh, missed the jump. Swim, drive, platform, oh missed that jump again. Finally get back to the weak point, stab stab, one more will do it...and he drops back down. More swimming, driving, jumping. Cool, back on the platform, now why won't you hop up here? Lots of him staring at me jumping around on the platform, no jumping up to expose the spot.

Finally he did and I got the last shot in, but man, that was a long time in that fight. What made it bad was that I was never really in any danger or doing anything interesting. At least half the time was just pushing up on the stick to swim toward him. It was long, boring, and annoying.

Not all the fights have been like that, but enough have had elements like it that I'm pretty down on this thing. I've only got four more to go, so I'll finish it, but this is definitely not as good as I was hoping it'd be.

It LOOKS good, but I think for me it will be one of those ones that will be a "wait until it's on sale for sub-$30" games. The combat looked a bit unpolished to me... though that was alpha footage, so... who knows.

Combat looks VERY Bloodborne to me, with some additional powers. My cuppa.

Yeah, it looks very interesting. I may allow myself the purchase later on in the year if I've cleared enough of the pile. Hopefully, there will be a demo (haven't checked the store to see if there is one already) so that I can check it out hands-on.

I've been talking a bit about Celeste in the Nintendo thread even though I've got it on PS4 but this game is an early GOTY contender, just after completing chapter 5 who's theme is high winds & moving blocks that you can control move to navigate the walls/floors lined with spikes or other environmental hazards. The control is outstanding & the platforming is devilishly challenging.

Story is charming & a lot of the problems in today's society are referenced to or touched upon in a natural, meaningful way in Madeline's journey up the mountain & the characters she meets along the way.

Buy it!!

Soooo... Bloodborne and Ratchet & Clank for March PS+*

*Edit, now confirmed by more reputable source.

Cool, wanted to play R&C with the boy for a while. Be good to try Bloodborne properly.

One of the greatest PS Plus months ever for those that haven't played the masterpiece that is Bloodborne & the ridiculously fun Ratchet & Clank.

That reminds me I need to play more of the The Old Hunters, it was absolutely kicking my ass last time around but utterly absorbing at the same time.

Also as of March 2019 no more additional Vita or PS3 games with PS+. Understandable, because they've pretty much run out of things for those platforms to give away and are scraping the bottom of the barrel. Maybe they'll run through a greatest hits of PS3 and Vita for the last year and we'll see something like Demon's Souls one more time for free.

I've had Bloodborne and Ratchet & Clank since they launched physically but even so it will be nice to never have to dig out those discs again when I want to play as I get lazier and lazier in this digital age.

Wow, I have both games and have played about 30min. of each.

Maybe I'll sell the physical copies!

Once again a "Bargain" purchase has sat waiting for me to play that long that it has made it's way to PS+ before I put any time into either of those titles...

Oh well.

Might as well, even if you only get $9.00, at least you can put a monetary value on what PS+ gave you this month.

I'm very interested in Bloodborne, especially now that it's going to be on Playstation Plus, but I've heard you can't pause the game. I usually only getting to play for 20-30 min at a time (before I go to work after everyone else has left the house), so I've gotten in the habit of pausing a game where ever I'm at and picking up the next day. I frequently find myself pausing in the middle of boss fights or cut scenes (curse games that don't let you do this). I'm concerned I won't be able to get through this because of this mechanic. The difficultly doesn't scare me to much, but I don't want to be redoing sections because the game won't let me pause.

Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated.

That's correct, you can't pause the game in any FROM software game (bloodborne/dark souls).
I think (others can correct me) that you can suspend the software, though.
And once you've cleared an area of enemies, you're generally (not always) safe.
The only way to be truly safe would be to go back to the safe zone, but that resets the enemies.
So this may not be your thing, but at the same time... it's free. What have you got to lose by trying it out?

Thanks. I think you're right that I don't have anything to loose from giving it a try. I do have an obsession with beating games, so we'll see if this one breaks me of that.

It may also be worth noting that the game is constantly saving progress and that while exploring a level with normal enemies (not a boss room) if you quit the game through the menu, it will be in roughly the same state when you return. Any enemies killed will stay dead but they will move to their original location. This doesn’t apply to bosses though. As a result when I had limited time to play I have normally held off on fighting the boss until I know I can dedicate a good 30-60 minutes to learning it. Cut scenes should not be an issue since there are so few and they are very short.

I've actually found the auto save feature in dark souls/ Bloodborne to be really useful as a parent of small kids who may wake up and/ or need something at any time. I found it just wasn't feasible to play games with checkpoint saving, but found the souls and Bloodborne could be chipped away at as I had time.

As others mentioned, boss fights are the only times you really need a bit of uninterrupted playtime.

See, I'm the opposite. If I've already got the games, it's worth the pittance I can get in trade, and if I sell it, I lose the freedom to get rid of PS+ without losing the games. Since I'm not much of an MPer, I like feeling like I have the option to not re-up without losing access to games I want to have.

No kidding. I own and have already enjoyed the heck out of both these games, but what a great month for those that haven't.

I'm betting they deliberately stacked this month to lessen the blowback from announcing they will be discontinuing PS3 and Vita games from PS+ freebies.

That seems like, Spikeout. I don't really play my vita or ps3, so I don't mind the change insofar as it doesn't really affect me. I do still "buy" the games each month, as I do own both systems still and could conceivably decide to comb those backlogs at some point. But really, if I was going to turn on my ps3, I'd probably be playing Demon's Souls anyway.

Only a total weirdo would put three threes at the end of their name.

Wait, being a new PS4 pro owner i'm confused. I get Ratchet and Clank and Bloodbourne for FREE this month through my PS+ sub? I only have 3 PS4 games, interesting:)

Yes, but it has a monthly fee and if you drop it then you lose access to those games.

You have to make sure you “buy” the games each month though to associate them with your account. If you drop your sub and then resume it again later you’ll have access again but not to any games that were offered while you weren’t subbed.

Since it seems like several new people will be getting into Bloodborne, I thought I'd point out the Bloodborne thread. I wouldn't do too much backtracking, due to spoilers, but if you have questions or problems, we're happy to help!

In case anyone without PS+ is interested in getting on the Bloodborne bandwagon, I have a physical copy of the base version that was gifted to me by a Goodjer. PM me if you're interested. I have no idea how much shipping would be on this thing.

BTW, I dipped a toe into Mad Max on PS4 last night, and I thought the graphics were really... icky. Does it look substantially better on PC? I don't recall the trailers looking this bad. I don't know if it's enhanced for PS4 Pro in any way.

That's odd, I thought the game looked amazing on base ps4 /shrug
