Monster Hunter World Catch-All

Yeah, but the fun goes up by like 10,000%

I've been using the bow the last few nights and starting to get a handle on it. It's actually a lot of fun with a few different ways you can play it.

I've was never too interested in the bow in previous games, but after watching the Arrekz tutorial, I might give it a shot in World sometime. All of the dodge charging looks like fun.

Yeah, I watched it too though I'll say his combos are more suited for solo play than multiplayer unless your friends like being pelted by rocks. lol

Also, pet peeve wise I'd say my biggest annoyance is having to split the reward money in multiplayer quests. Multiplayer is legit harder than solo so being rewarded less for doing it doesn't seem right. I'm so broke since hitting high rank. It's sad I have to chose between playing with friends and having tons of fun or doing it solo to build up some bank.

I have spent a considerable amount of time being knocked back from my brother's slicing shots, so being pelted with rocks sounds like an upgrade

There are quite a few good ways to earn money once you hit high rank.

1) Bandit mantle
2) Grow might seeds or god bugs, then sell, sell, sell! Make sure you're keeping your fertilizers running.
3) Set Argosy captain to bring you trade-in items. Sell those.
4) Find some easy solo investigations with increased reward money. Use a voucher and profit.
5) Equip the plunder blade on your palico and sell off excess monster parts you don't need.

Dyni I'll pelt you with rocks if you like.

Gaijinhunter details some of the things he doesn't like about MHW

Just watched this. I agree with pretty much everything. The camera change is the same one I've been suggesting since the game came out. Change to target camera! Then change it to only work on large monsters. It is so much better for the way MH combat works than a camera that follows the monster around.

I have complained about the extremely lackluster weapon looks many times on voice already. It's a huge step down from previous games. If you remove color changes, there are probably like 6-8 different looks across the whole tree for any given weapon. In previous games, there were several dozen for each weapon. Incentive to make new weapons drops dramatically when they look the same as ones you already have.

Then there's the gathering hall. I don't know how they screwed this one up. Returning from a multiplayer hunt should return you to the gathering hall 100% of the time. The social element between hunts is nonexistent without being able to see and interact with each other, and no one is going to run back up there every single time. I've gone up several times in GWJ squad sessions, and I've never seen another player.

Lastly, multiplayer scaling. I think they changed the way crowd control mechanics function in multiplayer vs. previous games. Escher and I have had several discussions about how difficult it is to get off a stun with a hammer or hunting horn in multiplayer. We can quite easily get 2 or 3 off in single player hunts, but the threshold for crowd control seems much higher across the board for multiplayer hunts. I'm not a fan of this change at all.

I think I've noticed the difficulty in inflicting status as a single attacker in a multiplayer hunt. I agree that's kind of a bummer, because unlike damage multiple people are not usually inflicting the same status.

I also the multiplayer monster health punishes two hunters a little bit. Maybe it's always been the same, I'm not sure, but it's slower to hunt with two people than single (or 3-4) and the rewards are also cut. It almost encourages me to hunt solo more.

Completely agree on returning to Gathering Hub after quest as well. Total bummer. If you leave from the gathering hub, whether or not playing with others, I'd love to just return there.

Being a completely reworked version of the game in HD, I can see how there are maybe fewer armor/weapon designs, but this is definitely a valid criticism. I think a lot of the armor designs aren't great too, or just don't translate to HD as well as they should.

Is there more variety in weapon models in high rank than low rank?

Chaz wrote:

Yes far more variety, customization for skills, some cosmetic differences for each set and you can colour them.

That seems fine then. I mean, most loot heavy grind games do the same thing, with boring looks until you hit the mid to end game range. I've never loved it, but it's not unusual. Even less surprising with this, where they had to rebuild everything from scratch.

It's only slightly more cosmetic variety. The very last upgrade in some trees changes appearance, but not many of them. There really are only 6-8 variations per weapon in total by the end of the game. I think 4U had close to 40 or 50 unique hunting horn variations. It's a very big downgrade from previous games.

Armor is mostly pretty good, it's just the weapons that suck.

Oops sorry I read that as armour not weapons. Yeah the weapons variety is lacking unfortunately compared to past games.

Fortunately, some of these shortcomings can be patched.

They can easily change where you return to after multiplayer hunts.

They can add more weapons via dlc. All those tie in’s to other games (Horizon Zero Dawn, Street Fighter) special events, etc etc. Hopefully they have some of these things up their sleeve. If not they have time to work on it.

Fingers crossed.

For sure. And I also agree with Gaijin in that while I would love to see improvements in these areas, they don't change the fact that this game is incredible overall.

I can see why they made the status change. I'm spitballing here, but I'm guessing that the combination of significantly increased "environmental statuses" (rocks, vines, or Palico tribes as some examples) from previous games, as well as what seems like a streamlining that makes mounting easier, they were worried that it was too easy to bounce the monsters from different status effect to different status effect to basically stun-lock it in multiplayer. If that had happened in play testing then increasing all status thresholds in multiplayer would have been the most direct solution.

An alternative solution could be if--in multiplayer--inflicting a status increased the threshold of that Status by the normal amount, and in addition increased the threshold of all other statuses by a bit. That way if you are doing less min-maxy gameplay, such as playing with your buddy the hammer guy, your buddy is able to get almost the same number of stuns with you as he would by himself (You are doing non-"head impact damage" dps, so it wouldn't be exactly the same). However if you're rolling with a KO Hammer, Exhaust Hunting Horn, Mounting Insect Glaive, and Paralyze and Sleep Bow user you would have a similar experience to now, where cumulatively you're not proccing status effects as often as you would without that scaling.

So far my weapon progression has gone Duel Blades -> Hammer -> Switch Axe, and it's been a fun ride so far. At 20 hours, this is the most I've ever put into a MH game by far. I know I'm still scratching the surface, as new mechanics are still being introduced.

I do have a question: is there a way to see the materials I have in camp? When I craft armor or weapons, I can see what I have for the item itself but can I see an entire list of materials? Also, is there a way to sell those materials, or is that only available when you finish a hunt?

Alright, Pink Rathian down on my first try, though she did cart me once, my fault for getting overconfident. So far still really digging HR.

Your camp has a tent. You can change weapons and access your item box in it. I think you have to be in HQ to sell your items from your item box.

I hope they patch the weapon looks. All the Blitzes and Shot lightguns basically being color reskins is a teensy bit off putting.

I still don't know how to join Hunters with Jobs. I don't see gamerparent in my playerlist and I don't know how to find you guys in Online Session searches. Help?

When gamerparent is on, send him a message through PSN and he can invite you into the session. Once you are in the session, he can give you an invite.

I know I can sell items, but what about the billion bones I have collected? Or do I just transfer them into points to make other stuff?

Any tips for finding monster parts after they break off? Half the time there's the indicator on the left side of the screen that there's a piece near me and I find it impossible to find. Just running in a circle and hoping an indicator pops up is my only strat at the moment.

I think they usually look like white/shining rocks on the ground, but I have trouble seeing them all the time myself.

Yeah, they just kind of blend. On occasion I find the indicator that I'm on top of them and I still can't see them. I wonder if they occasionally clip into the ground.

Aristophan: I thought we already got you joined to the squad the other day

Or are you confused about how to join a Squad Session? It’s the third option when starting a game. The squads you belong to will appear and you will start the game in the squads online session, with other squad members if any are in there.

That was LarryC wanting to join the squad.

So, i got my first quest for end game stuff last night. Hunt two purple highlighted firebomber birds. Damn, that sounds like an annoying first end game quest:)

Things have been grinding well though. I need 3 more Xin horns and 1 more Kushala tail to finish a full quality 8 armor build i'm putting together and i managed to craft my first quality 8 weapon last night, which is a beast of a physical/dragon weapon.

Fuzzballx without getting to spoilery I'm tracking down more Elder Dragons after that Im assuming the game is over and I start end game, is there a hard credit roll or anything?

Also a bit curious as to when the HR cap is lifted is it 15 or 29?

Did this last night. Can confirm it is annoying.

Yes to hard credit roll, no skip possible. I put it down and cooked dinner for 30 mintues, lol. But it was pretty, i could see it from the kitchen. Hard credit roll is at:

Spoiler:

Right after the 3 elder dragons are completed and then a final mega staged boss fight quest at HR 15, immediately after credit roll, a post game tutorial popup and HR converted to "real HR", which'll be in the 20s somewhere it seems. HR 29 is when the next actual assigned quest shows up it seems. I've watched a few things about end game since and it seems HR 49 and HR 100 are two future break points for quests and investigations as well.

Dang! I skip two nights for sleep, and go from “almost at high rank, looking forward to joining other players now” to “wait, y’all are finishing the game already?”

More like just beginning the real game.

It's not like a hard cutoff though, Once you've got HR 12 to 14 you can do quite a few quests with higher players, and shouldn't be afraid to join them on quests where you're allowed to.

There are break points where some new quests become available though. I saw an sos i couldn't join yesterday casue it was only HR 100+

For ex: I may be HR 29 but i still have like 3 dozen HR 5 to HR 14 quests to complete.

Busy week meant that I forgot about and missed getting the Watcher palico, boo.

Got a bit of time in today though. Am now HR7 and just made it to the Rotten Vale. I think I'd been carted 3, maybe 4 times total before RV, doing well I thought. Two carts Vs Radobaan put me in my place though. Just about got him to sleeps and capture before third carting.

Armour looks pretty mean, am wanting a change of wardrobe...
