Won't You Be My Pile-ntine? - Pile of Shame February 2018

That title worked so much better in my head.

So... I bought games in January, but I used a gift card from credit card points. That really doesn't count, right?

Who am I kidding? These threads wouldn't exist if I had good impulse control.

If you're interested, m0nk3yboy, has the 12 month 2018 pile plan thread over here.

If JRPGs are more your speed, steinkrugr has got you covered over here. This quarter they will be playing Final Fantasy XII.

If JRPGs don't move you, but RPGs do, check out Godzilla Blitz's CRPG Club thread. Their first game is Shadowrun: Dragonfall and they'll be playing until March/April time frame.

A quick reminder, in order to be considered "Pile of Shame" the game needs to be at least three months old. Otherwise, it's just a new game you haven't gotten to playing yet.

Also, if you are curious about some of the previous threads, Picks of the Pile, etc... Please go here and check out the spreadsheet I setup.

Let's get on to the games!

This month’s Pick of the Pile is

Minecraft: Story Mode

I'm going to jump on the Zelda bandwagon and more than likely promptly stop playing it shortly after typing this.

That's just the way these things go sometimes.

I guess I'll take a stab at beating Banjo Tooie (X360/Multi) again. And I'll throw in Pikmin 3 (Wii U) too because why not.

I love this title so much.
I’ll be carrying over Candle (Multi) and Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate (Multi).
Add Along the Edge (PC) to that.
I’ll probably add more as I go.

I'm well into Shadowrun Dragonfall (multi), so I'd like to declare that one for this month.

Also, any chance we could get a shout out in the first post about the GWJ CRPG Club? That might help some people knock a few RPGs off their pile.

Godzilla Blitz, what on earth is your avatar? It's like a monkey chupacabra in muzzle.

Go ahead and add me for Shadowrun: Dragonfall (Multi) and Vikings: Wolves of Midgard (Multi).

That's EXACTLY correct! I'm glad you like it. I spent hours making it.

It's actually Godzilla inside an American football helmet. Get it? Godzilla Blitz? Blitzing is a football thing—among other things of course. I could probably put Godzilla on a German WWII tank too. That might be even clearer.

Ok, let's see what this month holds:

Shadowrun: Dragonfall (Multi)
TIS-100 (PC)
2064: Read Only Memories (Multi)
What Remains of Edith Finch (Multi)

That's probably biting off all I can chew for the month already, so I'll leave it at that despite the fact that there will be a certain JRPG in the mix as well.

Shadownrun: Dragonfall - I'm really milking this since the deadline for the RPG Club is so far out, so I probably won't actually finish it.

Jagged Alliance Gold / Jagged Alliance: Deadly Games - They are combined into a single game on Steam, though they are technically two games. If my memories serve me correctly though, Deadly Games has no story or anything, its just more single missions that you can run while selectin from the same pool of mercanaries available in the first game ... ie it would probably be released as one or more pieces of DLC these days. I do find I can only take so much of this game at a time, but I'm hoping to finish it by the end of the month anyway.

Kenshin - This would be next in my alphabetical pile-clearing push. The game is still in alpha, so even if I do manage to 'finish' it, I won't toss it into the finished game pile, but into the repeatable games pile instead.

A lot of my gaming time has gone to Pulsar: Lost Colony with my sisters, and it looks like we'll be rolling up new LOTRO characters as well, so I'm a little skeptical of my ability to actually finish anything this month (A tradeoff I'm more than happy to make).

Looking forward to your thoughts! And don’t forget to listen to the GWJCC spoiler section.

So I wrapped up Along the Edge last night and I’m aready 80% through a second playthrough and already planning a third.
The French to English translation is pretty broken though. I’m seriously considering volunteering to fix it.

Just wanted to pop in and say I like the thread title

Indeed, I approve very much.

I did manage to complete Witcher 3: Hearts of Stone last month, so I'm going through to Witcher 3: Blood & Wine (multi) this month.

I completely forgot there was a spoiler section for Edith Finch, thanks for the reminder!

As for Along the Edge, sounds like it's best played in French? Might have to give that a shot and see how well I can keep up at this point...would I be likely to run into text speed issues as I struggle along (with occasional dictionary glances)?

It’s playable in English and for some reason I keep playing in English, but there are some really weird turn of phrases (which isn’t that big of deal) and some dialog options which weren’t all too clear (which is a bigger deal).
Not enough strikes to keep me away, though. Clearly. It’s been on my mind all day and I can’t wait to get back to it as soon as the boys are in bed.

Taking a bit f a break from the larger, longer games I'd been tackling in the past months and going instead for shorter, more compact experiences:

Pyre (multi)
Fallout 4: Far Harbor (multi)
Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice (multi)
Valiant Hearts: The Great War (multi)

All of these are started and at least a third of the way completed, so it shouldn't be an issue to get them all scratched off the pile in due course.

I'm going to carry over Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice (multi) and add:
Among the Sleep (non-VR version) - having a toddler myself, it seems like the optimum time to play this for maximum effect. ...or the absolutely worst time to play it.
God of War II (multi) - my de-stresser of choice at present.
Minecraft: Story Mode (multi) - just started. It's not instantly engaging to me, but has potential.

Aside from that, I will continue to work on Metroid: Samus Returns, Outlaws, and Shadowrun: Dragonfall for the CRPG club. No idea how far I'll get in them, so I won't declare them.

Not surprisingly, didn't finish Witcher 3 (multi) last month, but made a decent amount of progress, so will bring that over.

Will also add Life is Strange: Before the Storm (multi) and Diaries of a Spaceport Janitor (PC).

Your wish is my command.

Pyre is in the books! Good start for the month, which makes me happy.

Carry over What Remains of Edith Finch (multi) please. Been poking about and taking my time, but should be done soon.

My other adventure game for this month... To the Moon (multi).

I too will be playing Shadowrun, but won't list it for now because expect it'll stick a dent in March too.

Awesome! Thank you!

I'm slow to post, but since the New Year I've finished the following on Xbox One:

LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens
Fallout Shelter
Dear Esther: Landmark Edition
Gone Home: Console Edition

My goal for February is to finish The Walking Dead: Season Two and Minecraft: Story Mode - A Telltale Games Series. Then maybe try some different kind of games in March.

Credits rolled for What Remains of Edith Finch (multi) late last night. I meant to take my time a bit more, but in the end it was finished in under 3 hours. Loved it to bits, listening to the spoiler cast now...might post more in the finished games thread. Now to turn my attentions back to Shadowrun for a bit.

I think Mass Effect: Andromeda counts as old enough. Add that for me. It's super fun so far. I might be the only person that didn't think it's an absolute train wreck.

It sure does, it was released in March 2017. And I really, really, really liked it.

I've finished Shadowrun: Dragonfall. Woot!

Yeah, it's pretty good. Visuals are nice, combat is fast and fun, and the worlds are pretty enjoyable so far. Yeah, there's some animation wonkiness and most humans look HORRIBLE, but it doesn't make the game a non-starter for me.

Actually having a good time with Shadowrun: Dragonfall and DQ: Builders on the Switch.

The Walking Dead: Season Two on Xbox One has been completed! I enjoyed it more the 2nd time through.

After many failed attempts to not just play it but care about it, I'd like to drop Shadowrun: Dragonfall.

I'd also like to both declare and finish Black the Fall. Really curious little one, that.

Fallout 4: Far Harbor is done - the main story, at least. Will clean up the two or three trophies I've left (collectibles), but it's about done.
