Post a Picture - Something You Created!

Gooood evening J.F.!

Last year I spent a weekend with a knife maker to learn a bit about making knives. Not forging them yet, shaping them. After many trials and tribulations I finally popped out my first solo knife. Still have to put my maker's mark on it, and it's not good enough to sell, but here it is. I have 4 more of this shape that I'm working on finishing that I hope to improve on this one with. Hopefully I can make something compelling.

This is a hobby that I have a few interests in. I have wanted to get into knife and razor making for years but time and money have not allowed. Are you documenting on youtube or a blog site?

Now that's a knife.

Looks gorgious.

Thanks guys.

Not documenting anything at this point. Frankly I assumed I would screw everything up at every turn, from initial shaping to the initial bevel grinds, to the heat treatment, to the final bevels and then the handle, I honestly thought the thing would get completely demolished at some point. That it isn't hideous is miraculous to me, so I never thought to document anything.

That looks totally awesome, except you made it upside down!

I had forgotten all about this thread so I posted a seperate thread but it really belongs here.

Wanted to share with you what happens when I chose to spend some of my vacation time off and repaint a GameCube I picked up for like .50 cents at a thriftshop a few years back (I tested it today and it still works).
My son and I love Borderlands so I painted it and gave it to him. Thought you all might enjoy it.

And that Knife above is amazing. Well done!

Yes. Yes, it does.

Back to the homework!

I've been working on a little mini comic thing as part of my Professional Design Practice class (which needs to be ready at the end of the month I think!). So far I've drawn all the pages and now need to clean 'em up and paint them in photoshop. Here's a couple of the pages (WIP obvs)...

(I've kept the same character I used for the Dante project last year, but this time I've (loosely) adapted Lovecraft's DAGON). I think I'm probably going to develop this character further in the future too, maybe in a web comic format.

I'm also toying with the idea of getting around to setting up a Patreon account for 2018, but I need to think about it in more detail. I'll need to come up with something interesting (and that I can spare the time to complete, given how much time the degree takes up!) as rewards for backers and such. Ideas would be welcome.

I love that 3rd page (the large image with the inset boxes) - it's so good!!

Rathtar?

This...probably requires some explanation

...so one of the girls my mum assists with in the High School where she works is obsessively into Alien Hominid (she's autistic) and she wanted someone to draw her a 'hominid' character to a set of...shall we say, extensive and very exacting specifications!

Apparently I 'volunteered' for the job

I think I did pretty well, but we'll see what she thinks on Monday There may be revisions needed!

pyxi, I love your drawings and your imagination so much!! I will definitely support you via Patreon when you get it worked out. Sorry I don't have suggestions for rewards, but I'm very interested to see what you come up with.

Very cool.

I picked up a mora blade that I’d like to handle. May need to pick your brain.

Would love the chance to support your work pyxi. I already have a nice starter collection from your generous art dump at Christmas.

Thanks Hobear and SillyRabbit - As soon as I get a chance to sit down and properly plan something out I'll let you know!

Right now off the top of my head I'm thinking things like custom character portraits for character sheets, RPGs or board games, that kind of thing, along with some more traditional commission stuff plus maybe the occasional bits and pieces from the stuff I'm working on in college. Basically smaller stuff that I can manage in between all the college work. But I'll give it some proper thought as soon as I can!

Followed some tutorials and came up with this neat little banner for my Twitch page. I REALLY like how it turned out!

Retrolicious! I love it.

Excellent indeed.

Do you mind if I ask what tutorials you found that helped you make that?

I'm a bit proud of this. I wrote a book.

Congrats!

And you're a Scrum Master! Me too!

Opportunity missed to call it "To ServiceNow Man"

Haha.. My pop culture references were a bit more subtle. Actual screencaps I used:

Who?

I made a game! Well... I made rules for a game that's playable, but it's not in stores or anything. So.. I sort of, but not really, made a game!

Rule book
Sell sheet

It's called Dicescrapers. Players roll dice, stack them, and compete to build the most buildings in a city. It's fun, I think. I submitted it to cardboard edison's annual gameboard award and we'll see what kind of feedback it gets.

Nice work! That seems like a well thought out rule set, and a fun game. People love to build stuff! If I had that many dice I'd give it a try.

Thanks! Yeah, there's a bit of a problem having people test it out... Can't quite put my finger on it, though...
