Florida News Story Catch-all

Eh, I'm inclined to give people a pass these days when it comes to interactions with cops.

If those "passes" were handed out equally, I'd agree.

Wait... if I handed them out equally?

'Cause I didn't actually read the article, I was more just referring to assaulting an officer as an additional tick against the apparently terrible mother. It seems like everyone the cops want to arrest gets that, so it's a non-factor in my mind as far as far as how fit the Florida woman is to be a parent.

And I don't remember stating on here that someone was terrible for resisting arrest.

No, not you personally, the public in general. When certain people get killed, “they should have obeyed the cops,” but when others assault officers, they become much more lenient. I definitely did not mean it as a personal attack, and now we’re deep in D&D territory...

I thought this was a normal thing there... like the aussies having a 50% chance of making it to work in the morning or being eaten...

Silly man. Most things in Australia won't bother to eat you. Just kill you and leave you by the side of the road.

How about this...

Yup. Definitely sensing the need for an Australian spin-off of this thread...

Throw in some duct tape, a few dolls heads, and a bottle of maple syrup and you've got yourself a party.

I just love imagining the near miss moment during the handoff:

[man with loaded grenade launcher] - "Oh, hey, do you need to see if it works?"

[goodwill employee/volunteer] - "Nah, just put it in that bin over there."

I wonder if he said "say hello to my little donation"

It's only a matter of time before the Boring Company flamethrowers end up at Goodwill!

Expecting to hear this in a few years: "Look, Dad, this one barely has any charred human flesh on it at all - can we get it?"

Your daughter? I don't doubt it one bit.

Crazed fan thwarted in kidnapping attempt of Lana Del Ray. She doesn't strike me as the type to have violent nutjobs for fans.

You don't gotta be any particular type to have crazed stalker fans. You just have to be unlucky.

I like to think if he succeeded in the kidnapping she would have beguiled him with her voice and presence, then had him turn himself in.

FTFY

Dude can't catch a break. He was learning on the job!

"Research"

We had a weatherman in Baltimore, quite famous and still working, who in 1985 was arrested on solicitation charges in a large park in Baltimore City. The officer he propositioned said he "requested oral sex". He responded that he was doing independent research on a show he wanted to pitch to station management, and said that he had actually asked "to get into her head". (I recall from the time that no one believed him.) He was suspended for a few months.

So that may not be a Florida thing, as much as you'd think.

Actually, a really cool article and worth the read. Seems like a pretty neat guy.
