Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Catch-all

I definitely perceived it as creepy in the one scene it came up in so far. Apparently I haven't seen all of it yet if the whole family is involved...
I think Shadout explained quite well how I felt it came across when they tried to play it off.

Oh, and the "Find the Truth" quest in Argentum goes a long way to explain why Noppon are so darned annoying.

The actual explanation is the localization. The Nopon speak perfectly normal Japanese, except for adding ~mo at the end of their sentences. There is no Western equivalent to the (not uncommon) trope of suffixing your sentences, so they went with this.... extreme interpretation.

Well, yes, that. What does the suffix "-mo" mean in Japanese? I'm reminded of that character in Fushigi Yuugi who adds "no da" to the end of everything.
)

I'm not aware of that suffix in particular, I'm quite sure they made it up. If I had to guess I'd say that they probably derived it from mofumofu, an onomatopoeia that means something along the lines of soft/cuddly.

Still felt stupid. They apparenlt try to turn sexism into a joke. Look how "bad" the innocent teddybear is *wink wink*. And then you have half of the blade designs to drive home the point.
Doesn't exactly ruin the game for me, not even close. But it makes it a bit harder to love the game whenever Tora family shows up.

Likewise, at some point in the story when they decide to upgrade

Spoiler:

Nia

Sigh. She is great. What are you doing! At least that costume is optional.

Yeah, they do turn it into a joke. I wonder how the localization team could have handled it better, though.

If you want to use Nia as a blade, she only has the one outfit.

True.

Spoiler:

Meant optional in the sense you can choose not to use her as blade

That's not a real option. I'm not going to bench my best healer over an outfit.

I'm not going to bench one of my least annoying drivers over a healer
Besides, Rex should not heal.

This game caused a 2nd Switch crash for me yesterday.

Edited for weird phone typo

And

Spoiler:

when Nia is a blade, you have three less blades gaining affinity board experience, and three less blades contributing field skills when exploring. So, basically, I've barely used Nia as a blade at all since the opportunity to play with more interesting party builds in combat isn't worth losing those other things most of the time.

I only use that particular blade for boss battles. I'll actually have Rex use two healers and Pyra.

I don't know what that means, but I assume it's a result of all the mostly naked women.

It's natural, and it's okay to feel those things.

Phones suck.

I, too, thought you were having a nerdgasm over the game. The only Switch crashes I've had were with Stardew Valley, and, unfortunately, that particular bug happened while saving.

1.3.0 is coming next month and will have the New Game+ some people have been waiting for:

In the version 1.2.0 update, there is a bug in certain instances during and after Chapter 7 where a Blade linked with a specific Driver disappears from the Blade List (it only disappears from the list, the Blade itself does not disappear).

This is a bug that occurred during the process of adding the second playthrough element called “Advanced New Game Mode,” which will be implemented in the version 1.3.0 update planned for mid-February.

We apologize for the inconvenience for the about half a month that remains, but we are working hard on the development of the update, so please give us your patience.

More information regarding the specific updated content of version 1.3.0 will be shared leading up to its release.

Who do I give this beastly core crystal to?

I'm in ch. 4 or 5 and still just 3 members. I have other attack blades for Rex but the field skills look nice. It's either Rex or wait a few chapters for other attacker party member from what I can gather.

So Rex or wait for

Spoiler:

Zeke

?

I gave it to Rex. That Blade has a bunch of skills that are useful for getting past skill checks.

Yeah, that's a tough choice. That blade DOES have useful skills, but...

(mechanics spoiler for the end of chapter 7)

Spoiler:

Rex can eventually use anyone's blades, which means that once you have a decent working set on him, you're better off putting most other blades on other characters if you want the most flexibility for party composition. That being said, you will get one other blade of the same weapon type as a quest blade, so you can be sure you'll have at least one option for that weapon to give to Zeke if you put Wulfirc on Rex. The only other earth attacker blade comes from the random pool, so it might be a bit tougher to ensure you get the best variety of elements for each character.

Also worth noting, as I mentioned when I was discussing my stupid quest to get KOS-MOS a few pages back, if you DO get nuts trying to be completionist, you will eventually get the resources you need to make a small handful of extra overdrive protocols. Also, I guess if you bought the season pass you also have a small handful there. So, while they are rare and best saved for moving random blades, you could just be open to the fact that you might move him later on if you decide to get crazy with the game.

Depends on whether you already have a decent team on Rex. I used it on Rex and have no regrets.

I have Pyra, Roc, and Zenobia on Rex already.

Also a couple rare tanks and a healer rare.

He's pretty full. May transfer healer to Nia. I don't know. He can't use them all.

At this point, most of my rare Blades are away on Merc missions pretty much 100% of the time.

Yeah, then don't bother assigning Wulfric to Rex, unless you really need him to rep the earth element or something.

So, just beat the final boss. I, uhh... think it got a little dusty in here during that final cutscene... >_>

I started playing Final Fantasy XII for the first time and so far it's kind of reminding me of Xenoblade Chronicles 2, except more subdued and serious. I keep trying to jump though

Chapter 5 finally. Whew.

Still having a blast.

But I see a lot of side stuff that could get me distracted. Might try to stick to main story for a bit.

I did the exact same thing!

As much as I'm enjoying Final Fantasy XII, though, it feels tiny and shallow compared to this game.

My playstyle has been to do side-quests until they stop entertaining me, and then advance the main story (for which I'm usually overlevelled by that point) until something new catches my eye. Not the fastest way to play, but pretty satisfying. It also avoids frustrating boss fights (which I hate) since I can usually stomp them.

Yeah, that's what I did as well. 217 hours later I finally beat the game... with still a bunch of sidequests to go. New Game Plus is coming sometime this month though! In the interim, I'll be taking a break and playing Deadpool on XB1 and Oxenfree on the Switch.

PS: I never managed to get KOS-MOS. Sigh...

I think the blade combos are finally starting to make sense, though I need to find more blades with different elements because often times I don’t have what is needed. Moving right along through Chapter 3 and still enjoying it. The pull to find rare blades is really strong and has gotten to the point that I get really disappointed if I pull a generic one, even if it’s good! I still haven’t quite got a handle on all the extra systems like core chips, pouch items, accessories, and just about everything else in the character screen. For now I’m just winging it I gusss and it’s working so far.

Any suggestions for good ways to farm rare core crystals? I'm in chapter six, doing the main story beats in Tantal.

What level are you, and do you have a good reliable build for smashing enemies?

There's a unique boss in the, uhm, esophagus maybe, of Uraya that can be smash farmed for legendary crystals, but it's reasonably high level. It looks like a giant bug of some sort. Before that, I did low quality scavenging at the Mor Ardain docks, where you can pull up Krabbles with a good chance of dropping rares.

Also, if you progress a bit further in the story (like to the start of chapter 8) there's another unique monster that's even easier to farm for legendaries. And honestly, I'd probably just push forward for that rather than doing the krabbles at that point in the story -- that was good earlier in the story, but at this point your close enough to reliably farming legendaries that farming rares might be a waste of time. (Plus, the legendary farms are faster anyway.)

Can't recall the levels of either, but I think both are in the 50s or 60s maybe? I think the chapter 8 one might be lower level, but it's mostly easier to farm because the terrain around it is much more hospitable.

Oh, and having weapons with gold core chips (which increase drop rates) helps a lot. You can farm them either from the bug in the stomach of Uraya, or from one the giant flying fish things that fly around the coast of Temperantia.

I'm late 40's, early 50's, level-wise, so I'll keep those things in mind. It sounds like my biggest barrier at this point is not having a good setup to smash things. I can't even launch them.

Yeah, I mean, you also get increased odds of a good drop when you finish an enemy with a chain attack, but that's once per fight rather than at least a few if you can reliably smash, and they are quite time consuming vs just smashing over and over.
