What is the best Donut?

Dayam. I think I know who wins this thread.

Welcome, CPWilson. That might be the single best post from a Coffee Grinder that I've ever seen.

Montgomery Donuts Maple glaze. To bad they are out of business

This might be a breach of protocol, but I'd petition our benevolent overlords to fast track CPWilson to the Executive rank. That's some damn fine work.

If the actual establishments are getting shout-outs, I better shout mine: Dunford Bakers.

Oh man, awesome data breakdown!!!

Speaking of local haunts, I know there are a few fellow North Carolinians about on the forum: If you haven't tried Monuts Donuts in Durham it is definitely worth a go!

I guess that means we Chicago Goodjers need to specify good Chicago donut shops.

There are a few Stan's here.
Glazed and Infused
Doughnut Vault
Firecakes
Do-Rite
Beaver's

A few old-school places:
Bridgeport Bakery
Dat Donut
Dinkel's Bakery
Hon. mention: Lou Mitchell's, which is a diner-style joint near the beginning of Route 66, which offers delicious, free, fresh, lightly powdered donut holes for folks waiting to be seated. They have some standard donut fare on their bakery menu as well.

I guess what I'm saying is that if you like donuts, Chicago has you covered. I will not here go into donut-adjacent culinary options, of which there are also plenty.

I've changed my mind, cinnamon and sugar toffee crumble is the best.

Truly you're a leaf in the wind, tumbling about with no direction or destination. I don't see how I can trust you with anything when your thoughts on something as monumentally important as the best type of donut change like this.

I remain steadfast, not out of stubbornness but out of certitude. Old fashioned, glazed. With coffee.

too soon?

It's still Boston Cream. I stand resolute.

I humbly submit Five Daughters Bakery for consideration. Nashville's answer to the cronut, and despite the hefty price tag, one of the best doughnuts I've ever had.

We just had a Krispy Kreme open near my house, and my 19 year old daughter adores them. I also loved those when I was 19. That does seem to me proof positive that the palate of a 19-year-old should not be trusted. Ever.

It's the donut you have in front of you right now.

In Australia we call them a "ringly-cakeo"

Yeah, well, in 'Straya they call the Eyeball Wasp sort of cute and mostly harmless. How has someone not taken away your label maker down [down under?] there yet.

I mean, Ringly-cakeo?

-giggles- Ok, that's kinda fun to say.
...Riiingly-cakeEo..

I want this to be true. Like so much so I am on the verge of youtubing how to gain an Australian accent and just try to order these around town. See if I can get the local hipsters to start doing it before it's cool.

You have been out of the country for a while... They've been "oil-boiled sugary holey sangers" for a few years now...

Only on the East coast. Here on the best coast we refer to them by their traditional name, 'Pommie circles'.

Pah! While I appreciate a good bubbly yeasty wobble water from WA, you've got a long way to go to claim the coast crown my friend.

Thread takeover! Thread takeover!
