Updated.

Shadowrun's early lead vanishes. It's a dead heat with four games tied for first! I still can't decide which games to vote for.

Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines ($19.99) (24 hours) ($4.99 at Humble until 1/17)
Wasteland 2 ($39.99) (37.5 hours)

I'll vote for:

• Shadowrun: Dragonfall
(available super cheap at the moment for anyone who might not have it, and relatively short, which might make for a good first game for us)

• Baldur's Gate EE
(Actually loaded this up a few weeks ago. I've always wanted to play this one. Not expensive, and not as long as I thought.)

• Pillars of Eternity
(A little pricey at the moment, but looking through my Steam friends' list, it seems like most people already have it. Another game I'd love to play with a group.)

I'm really glad to see Might and Magic I in the list, as I'd love to finally start and finish that one sometime. At 50+ hours though, that might be a killer first game. I thought about voting for Wasteland 2 as well, but the current $40 price is a bit steep for anyone who might not have it.

I'm sort of leaning toward Shadowrun among the front runners at this point, but I always feel I have to say "they're all winners here, not a loser in this list."

I so thoroughly devoured Shadowrun, I’m rooting for any other front runner but they are all great and I won’t be sad if people dive into Dragonfall - it is quite excellent.

Yep, I really like our selections. I'd play any of these. I actually bought Vampire on that Humble sale just in case it wins, as it seems like an iconic RPG that will eventually win.

I wonder if we'll need another five days of voting? (You all are so fast at this!) I think there are 20 or so people listed in the first post who have expressed interest and about that many people have voted. I don't think it would be fair to end things right at this minute, but maybe we give a "24-hour last call" once the voting seems to have run its course?

I also wonder what we should do if there is a tie? Vote off with just the tied games? Randomized pick?

That sounds fine to me, I was hoping to begin Thursday or Friday evening after work anyway.

Sounds good. Let's see how many votes come in tomorrow and go from there. I definitely want to give everyone ample time to vote, but if it goes quiet and we seem to be done, there doesn't seem to be much point in waiting.

-----------

I'm curious what people think about spoiler guidelines. Any ideas/thoughts? I'm always afraid to say too much when I play games in groups, so I often find myself either spoilering everything or just not writing as much as I'd like. But marking everything with spoilers is kind of odd. I tend to like the idea of ...

• All tactical/combat/party formation advice is fine.
• General story progression stuff is fine.
• Major plot twists should be tagged with spoilers.

My general thought is that the looser the better, to encourage people to post more rather than less.

Any thoughts? Too loose? Maybe I'm just thinking about this too much and we don't need spoiler guidelines?

Sorry for the double posts, but just to tie up loose ends here's the day's last voting update.

I’m in. Let’s see if I can do this and the jRPG club at the same time.

My vote:
Shadowrun: Dragonfall
Baldur's Gate
Icewind Dale 1

Pillars of Eternity
Shadowrun: Dragonfall
Baldur's Gate

I'll vote the same way. The top 2 are on my pile. Baldur's Gate I haven't played in over 15 years but it should be fun to revisit it.

In the interest of being original, I’ll also vote for:

Pillars of Eternity - I have had a game in progress already for over a year...
Shadowrun: Dragonfall
Baldur’s Gate - As Kerguzz said it’s been years...

If we're going with BG1EE, I'm totally installing a mod I helped translate to French. Xan romance, FTW!!!! <3

When Xan speaks ze language of love, who are you to resist, no?

(I'm so sorry, my first exposure to French culture was in the '70's from Bugs Bunny Warner Bros cartoons)
That's awesome that you helped with the translation mod!

Voting is close. Coming down to the wire.

Well, I play the mod in English, obviously. And you're forgiven.
