The GWJ CRPG Club - Part 1 - Old Thread

Is it my imagination, or are pretty much all of the nominations (except for The Quest) bird's eye perspective isometric rpgs?

It's not my fault that the West makes subpar DRPGs.

I vote we kick Clocky out of the clubhouse!

Ok, for my actual nomination: Might & Magic VI: Mandate of Heaven.
I'll second Icewind Dale 2 and Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura
Really, there's not a bad game on this list. I'll be happy with any of the nominations so far.

I’ve got memories of discovering Arcanum at the store, no prior knowledge of its existence. I can remember the beginning of the game vaguely. I must’ve played the beginning several times. But I don’t think I ultimately got very far.

Nomination Update

Nominated and Seconded
Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura
Baldurs Gate EE
Blackguards
Icewind Dale 2
Planescape: Torment
Shadowrun: Dragonfall Director's Cut
Wasteland 2

Nominated
Might & Magic VI: Mandate of Heaven
The Quest

I'm really liking all of the games nominated! Great stuff. I would happily play any of these.

Oooo, Mandate of Heaven? I'll second that one!

I sort of want to start today, I've got 'em all except for The Quest.

There are four games that spring to my mind at present which are not accounted for. Two are console exclusive, though, I think.

I'll nominate Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines which has been on the gaming bucket list for a while now.

I'll gladly second Vampire Bloodlines. I was enthralled by it when it came out and made it all the way to

Spoiler:

the werewolf

with my Nosferatu before stalling out.

I think about getting back into VtMB several times a year, but never have.

i was saving the suggestion of Bloodlines for Round 2, but i'm always happy to play that again if it comes up

I want to join the club! I think the only of these games I have so far is Bloodlines. I'd happily play it again! But, I'm always up for trying new games too.

ETA: I haven't posted in a while and just remembered I need a new avatar. I think it's time to move away from Jessica Rabbit, but I haven't settled on a new one yet.

I'm a little embarrassed to admit that I own most of what's been discussed so far.

Haha. I'm in the same club. I have most of these but haven't finished/started them. Have Steam sale, will buy the shiny stuff.

Welcome welcome, even with your Jessica Rabbit avatar!

New avatar!

I've actually never played Icewind Dale 2 or Bloodlines - but I do have most of the rest!

For several years I played Bloodlines every Halloween, but it's been a couple of years. I don't think I can get tired of it. I'm going to check out the others on the list now.

I, too, own almost all the games so far nominated.

Based on my extensive research, I'll second The Quest.

i own ALL the games mentioned so far and I'm not even sorry.

When IWD 2 came out it was called the most difficult of the Infinity Engine games, but I thought it was very well done. Each battle takes some planning and understanding of character's abilities. I never did beat it though, and it's been years since I attempted a run through.

I only own Baldur’s Gate and Planescape Torment so I’m definitely hoping those get picked.

Almost done with D:OS2 and I have Tyranny waiting in the backlog...so, I'll nominate Tyranny.

I'll second that one, too.

Er how is a game gonna get selected from the seconded list?

I think a d20 would be appropriate.

I've been updating the first post with information as things get figured out, so if you can't find anything like that by scanning through the conversations, you might find it there. (If there is something else useful I can put there, let me know.)

Here's the part on choosing games. It's pretty much the same as what the JRPG Club does:

How do we decide on games to play?
We have one week of nominations and seconding. To be included in the voting games must be nominated by one member and seconded by a different member. Each member is allowed one nomination, and may second any number of nominations. Games nominated must have had their western release at least one year before the nomination month and may not be a game the club has already played.

Next, we have one week of voting. Each member is allowed three votes, but can only spend one vote per game. However, members do not have to use all three votes. Members can vote without having nominated anything! Vote for stuff you want to play. Highest vote getter wins.

So if there's an 80% chance to end up with a certain game, and we roll a 17, does that mean we have to play XCOM instead?

I've loved CRPGs in the past, but it's been hard for me to get into them lately. And by lately I mean in the last 15 years.

I'm going to nominate Pillars of Eternity, even though I imagine many have already played it.

I'll second The Quest. Looks interesting.

And a 20 could be Hatoful Boyfriend! This is a GREAT IDEA.

I'll second Pillars of Eternity, I have yet to finish it.
