NFL 2017 Week 17 Thread

Cleveland is
committed to Clevelanding in 2018
:

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported Sunday that Dorsey "has told people close to him as well that the plan is to keep [Hue] Jackson, and that is how they'll proceed.''

But then he used some odd phraseology that raises a red flag. He wrote "look for Dorsey to hire an offensive coordinator, which is tops on his priorities for staff changes.''

When Jackson was asked about reports that he'll hire an offensive coordinator after last week's loss to the Bears, "I didn't put that out there.''

If it's true Dorsey -- who reports directly to Haslam as does Jackson -- is making staff changes and mandating that Jackson hire a coordinator, that could create problems.

Furthermore, the Browns have retained two members of Sashi Brown's executive team in Chief Strategy Officer Paul DePodesta and Vice President of Player Personnel Andrew Berry. DePodesta also reports directly to Haslam, which makes for a lot of people in the owner's ear.

With a season-long rift between the coaching staff and the executive team, it will make for some interesting dynamics if they all continue to work together. Some fences will have to be mended and some roles redefined.

There's also some stuff in there about them considering dumping Hue if they can get Marvin Lewis, but I don't think Lewis gets any closer to Cleveland than Cincinnati's own proximity to the town forces him to.

However, Cooter's name has been mentioned in regards to some head coaching vacancies

Of course it has been. His name should never not be mentioned. Whenever the Lions aren't on offense, everybody should be asking "Where's Jim Bob Cooter?"

Dom Capers being replaced is a huge change for the Pack.

Jim Bob Cooter.

Denver reportedly in talks with Gary Kubiak... to join the Broncos front office.

I'm beginning to think that just maybe the clock inside Deshone Kizer's head isn't quite fast enough.

Eagles bench Foles after a terrible first half, play Nate Sudfeld the rest of the way.

Are they seriously considering Sudfeld (who had not taken a snap for Philly before today) as their playoff QB? Because if not, this is stupid. The game is meaningless, but Foles needs reps.

Then again, considering Foles' performance a week ago, and how quick they made the move today, it seems like they planned to go with Sudfeld unless Foles bounced back quickly. And he didn't.

But he has the brain of Tom Brady.

In his case, that's "Thomas Brady" the part-time filing clerk living in Charleston, WV.

4th and 2, under two minutes left, Browns need to score. Kizer escapes the rush and hits a wide-open Corey Coleman. Who drops it.

Clevelandiest moment ever.

What a Browns way to lose.

Kizer escapes a would-be 4th down sack, throws to Corey Coleman... he drops it.

Would have put them in the redzone and in good position for a game winning TD.

BROWNS.

Matt Waldman continues to point out that he sees things, but hesitates. How do you remove that hesitation?

Nick Foles looked good in his first action after the Wentz injury. This past Sunday was not his first action. The Eagles are screwed.

The outcome of all of your Eagles predictions has been the opposite, so thank you for securing The Eagles a spot in the Super Bowl.

Gotta appreciate the commitment to the #Brand.

The book is out on Foles he is what he is so I’m not sure what the purpose of starting him was at all. I would expect we will see Foles start but not finish the divisional playoff game. So either the Eagles win an ugly defensive football game (lol unlikely with their defense) or it will be a quick one and done. Either way it will be in a interesting offseason. Not many draft picks and lots of needs.

The plus side of that game is that first-string Cowboys offense could only manage six points against third-string Eagles defense. That's gotta be humiliating.

The downside: everything tied to the word "offense".

KMOV in St. Louis decided at the last minute to dump the Chiefs game once Gabor of Titans and Jags. I get that the Chiefs game was inconsequential, but it was also going to be Mahomes first game as a Chief. So bummed.

Too bad, because Jags/Titans has been a snoozer.

Jags have nothing to play for, and the Titans are pretty limp for a team fighting to get into the playoffs.

Niners as expected are stomping the Rams 2nd teamers.

SF/LA is going to start being a fired up rivalry again starting next year though.

Every flag in the stadium just came out in Miami.

Loooove Baldwin turning over and pointing at the ref, a la Shawn Kemp on Alton Lister...

Go Hawks. (And Cam.)

Someone posted in a St. Louis sports forum that the Rams attendance was down over 224K this season versus last season. I don't think you can have a rivalry against a team that doesn't have fans.

Now I'm rooting for the Rams to get curb stomped in their first playoff game, just to make sure anyone thinking about buying tickets next year has second thoughts.

What a perfect Jameis Winston game. Three picks, and then, on the last drive, down one with less than 20 seconds left, throws an utterly perfect go route (his worst route by far) to rookie WR Chris Godwin for a TD, and follows it up with a two-point conversion to Evans over Lattimore. Sure, lose draft position, but beating the Saints is always worth it, just to see the pouty look on Drew Brees' face.

The Chiefs took Mahomes out to let Tyler Bray get some work. bray proceeded to fumble the snap and it was returned for a TD. Then he had a three and out, throwing an incomplete pass. Denver proceeded to score again, to tie the game with just under 3 minutes left.

Andy reid then put Mahomes back in for the 2 minute drive to win the game. He competed 4 of 6 for 52 yards to get into FG range. Then they ran Sausage (Anthony Sherman) 3 times for 13 yard, and one 4 yard rush by Mahomes, to drain the clock. Butker wins the game with a 30 yard FG, 27-24.

Chiefs!

Baltimore.

The Jags hosting the Bills?

Must watch wild card round football!

Much obliged to your Bucs for beating the Saints.

Too bad Carolina decided to take its bye week today.

I love Gruden. But if you have to break the bank to convince any coach to come out of retirement, you are not going to get a good result. Gruden has the ideal football life right now. A giant stake and ownership stake will not keep him motivated to put in the hours and effort it takes when he was making millions already.

I feel like this might end up becoming the Raiders' "Hold my beer" moment after watching how Harbaugh was run out by the Niners.

Question: What exactly is Strength of Victory, and when did it become a part of the tie-breaker system? Also, how valuable is it when the three highest SoV's are Carolina, Kansas City, and Atlanta?
