Yup. Kathleen Kennedy has been involved in some of the greatest adventure movies ever made.

Also, I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to have a Star Wars film directed by Ron Howard. Little Opie Cunningham gets my vote.

What, like the story of a young farm boy who goes on an adventure with a sarcastic sidekick, and learns at the feet of an old wizard? Written by George Lucas?

My brother and I say "That way!!!" a lot when lost hiking.... I need to find a meme of it.

I'm fond of "I stole it from a stupid daikini" when certain friends who will get it ask where I bought/found/got something.

You can't say the word sword without McChuck or I imitating Val Kilmer unsheathing his imaginary sword when they were captured.

Ron Howard Will Direct the Han Solo Movie

Reported first by The Hollywood Reporter, Disney and Lucasfilm have now confirmed that Ron Howard has officially agreed to step in to the vacuum left by the tumultuous and sudden departure of Chris Miller and Phil Lord during the later stages of production on the still-untitled Star Wars Story focusing on Han Solo’s early days.
Here’s the full statement from Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy:

At Lucasfilm, we believe the highest goal of each film is to delight, carrying forward the spirit of the saga that George Lucas began forty years ago. With that in mind, we’re thrilled to announce that Ron Howard will step in to direct the untitled Han Solo film. We have a wonderful script, an incredible cast and crew, and the absolute commitment to make a great movie. Filming will resume the 10th of July.

Apologies if this has already been posted. I just saw it for the first time. It's incredibly charming and hilarious.

There is an internet obsession about...

Spoiler:

who Rey’s parents might be.

Major spoilers ahead...

Spoiler:

The single player campaign of Star Wars Battlefront 2has a ham fisted insinuation about who her parents might be. Disney has said that all new SW video games will be considered canon.

Do you think that this hint at who Rey’s parents are will end up being true? Or will there end up being some sort of ‘gotcha’ moment where they reveal that they weren’t referring to Rey.

I think that there will be new single player content that reveals that Rey is not their daughter.

They've said not to play the upcoming BF2 campaign DLC (free) until AFTER watching TLJ.

How did I not know about this thread! *rushes to the beginning to read the whole thing*

Who’s “they”? When are they releasing the DLC? Is it the week before TLJ comes out?

Oh boy it was on twitter or reddit. The DLC comes out the 13th.

As we approached the release of The Last Jedi, I decided to take a look at the current state of the EU and see if there was something there that might interest me. It's my favorite fictional universe and I've read a ridiculous number of Star Wars books since I first picked up Heir to the Empire in the early 90s, and yet I came away pretty disappointed with what's currently out there. Somehow, the new EU has made me really miss the old stuff, even though much of was pretty bad.

My favorite thing about the old EU was the breadth of locations, characters, time periods, and story types. Want to read a mystery? a western? hard-ish scifi? a (bad) romance novel? All possible in the old EU. Something from thousands of years before the movies? a hundred or so years after? Also possible. There's nothing like that with the new stuff. Most everything seems to be clinging tightly, both in characters and time periods, to the new movies.

I want to read more in this universe, but right now there's just not anything out there that interests me. When I've gone to read Star Wars stuff over the last few years, I've reached for stuff from the Legends timeline every time (which, granted, has only been twice over the last two years).

I guess I have to hope that the current lack of variety is a product of how young the new EU is, and that it'll get better over time.

Obviously a I have a deep love for the legacy EU. I agree about the narrowness of the 'new' EU, but something to remember: The wide diversity in the old EU didn;t spring up over night. I'm pretty sure if you started a clockrunning when Wendig's first novel came out and sincronized it to when Heir to the Empire came out, I do not think Jedi Search would have even been released yet, and the vast majority of EU novels and novellas are post Jedi Academy Trilogy. Give the new cannon time to grow.

i think the biggest issue inhibiting that growth right now is that we don;t know what the new trilogy is going to say about what happened in the 30 year gap. Like old Lucasfilm/Lucasarts, Kathleen Kennedy's Disney Star Wars department wants to keep everything in line with cannon, so I expect the novel space to grow much more broadly once the new trilogy is complete.

The comics are of much higher quality than the books so far. Vader Down is a fantastic look at Vader at his most powerful.

In my head I am still struggling but getting there of loving the legacy universe as it was what I had for my whole life for star wars. I even enjoyed the prequels until I realized what horse crap they were. I really like what is going on with the new cannon but part of me will always want more of the legacy EU. But like you know not trash.

Personally I enjoyed I Jedi, and the x wing rogue squadron series written by the same author.

Hmm most of the new canon books are really good. Aftermath trilogy is the worst. New books like Thrawn, Phasma, Leia, princess of Alderann, Ahsoka, etc have been really good. I agree, comics are also hitting it out of the park as well.

Best new canon book for me was Lost Stars. Also, Catalyst did a good job setting up Rogue One.

The thing that really jumps out for me, is that the Legacy EU, even the later stuff with the Vong and the storyline where Jason Solo [message redacted] are firmly set in a pre-nine-eleven world.

Aftermath and Bloodline sing it most loudly, but Thrawn, Dark Disciple, Lords of the Sith, and Heir to the Jedi also carry the thread: The new canon is very much 'Star Wars in a post-nine-eleven' world with an awareness of shades of grey and the moral dirtiness of fighting a government that isn't really present in the old canon.

Also an inclusion of LGBT characters that the films and TV show have yet to live up to.

I'm sure this is old news here but just in case Chuck Wendigs response to people complaining about his gay character is pretty amazing

Crap I have been feeling the star wars itch again and am debating picking up a few if the new cannon books. Any really worth reading? Any worth skipping?

Skip the Aftermath triology, a majority of the other books are real good. Lost Stars, Phasma, Thrawn, Bloodlines, Leia princess of Alderaan, Ahsoka all good.

Aftermath does have good characters; just not so great writing and pacing.

Did they ever "wrap up" the Legacy Universe? I know they pushed past the Vong stuff but, was there ever sort of a final book where the characters sort of "retired", as it were? I know Chewbacca got thrown into a moon or whatever but it'd be curious where old-ass C3PO went to, for instance?

Kind of. I fell off during the New Jedi Order, so I never read it, but there was a book that was billed as the last adventure for Luke, Leia, and Han.

Crucible by Troy Denning

The book series with Aboleth fairly neatly wrapped up the Legacy Universe I think, and jumped a galaxy full of sharks.

Edit: also Crucible doesn't really stand alone, it's the capstone on the 9 book Fate of the Jedi series, that starts with Outcast, I feel like you would feel really lost if you jumped from pre-vong right to crucible.

Man I watched rogue 1 last night. I am just so happy we have had three solid great movies the past 3 years. Nitpick the films all you want but I am a happy kid again at heart. I will always miss the good and fun I had in the legacy universe growing up but it's so much fun to have star wars back. I'd love a revisit of the KOTOR universe but we'll see what happens with it.

Agreed! I feel sorry for anyone who didn't allow themselves to enjoy the new films. I'm seeing Last Jedi for the 2nd time tomorrow night. Really excited!

On the book front, I'm reading From a Certain Point of View, and I can't put it down. I'm assuming that it's cannon since it's a new release. It retells A New Hope from the perspectives of bystanders and lesser known characters. And a few major characters as well. It's a series of short stories, each written by a different author. I'm totally loving it.

Have you seen this yet, Rawk?

Wow that comic was awesome and moving.
Now I want to check that book out you mention Rawk, sound interesting.

Came across this video in the comments. Not near as good but worth watching all the way through.
