Star Wars:The Last Jedi (SPOILERS!!!!)

Pages

Boy Rian Johnson was not kidding when he said he did not care about Snoke or Rey's parents!

I really enjoyed it. Some people may think some parts had too much humor in them but that's Star Wars for ya.

Looking forward to discussing any details I may have missed.

Ask questions here if needed also!

Three things that really bothered me. No mention of how Snoke came to power.

No explanation of Rey's parents. Even though they tease the hell out of this in the first and most of this movie.

And a very long casino scene which could have been used to explain issue one or two.

Yeah Johnson was not a big fan of Snoke. We may have to wait for additional media to learn more about Snoke for sure.

I understand when he compared him to the Emperor in the original story with not knowing who the Emperor is. But come on, the Emperor and Darth Vader died. How did this guy come out of nowhere?

The First Order came from the remnants of the Empire. But how about Snoke? Annoying!

He definitely had some type of force powers.

Why didn't the new rebel commander just explain to Poe the plan before or during the mutany? I feel like I missed something there. The whole plot around the rebel fleet was problematic to me.

I posted some of my other issues in the other thread probably not worth posting again in here.

I will say visually a lot of the space battles and that salt planet fight looked amazing. Poe is a badass.

IMO, he just did not need to know OR she thought he may make a big deal about it (which he did when he found out)

Agreed that he didn't need to know, but at the point that he has mutinied and is holding her at gun point. Maybe then would be a good time to say "listen there is an abandoned rebel base nearby" just made such little sense to me.

I had much more issues.

1. Why do I feel like the 15 rebel's that are left have the upper hand?
2. When do people with the force all of a sudden survive in space and float/open doors with no training?
3. Why do the bad guys just seem like dumb emo boys?
4. The slapstick comedy like this is a marvel movie (which i love but not hte place for it)
5. The entire opening scene I found quite bad.

Bunch more smaller things.

However, overall i'm still unsure how i feel. I did really like that they surprised me with the plot. Really I think the biggest part is Rae has already kicked Ren's ass and it makes it feel like there is not a big threat with snoke gone.

1) They were successful in giving you HOPE!
2) The Leia thing was surprising. i would say she has been around the Force all her life and does use it a bit. Maybe at some point Luke taught her a couple of things.
3) This deserves a more lengthy answer
4) I think people forget all the slapstick that was in the OT

This is Star Wars. We know the good guys are going to get beat up and come back. That is just the way it is. If you want a big threat, the First Order still has a huge war machine and the resistance has been severely depleted. The Hero Luke Skywalker is dead. What is next?

I also need to watch again - did that boy at the end use the force to grab the broom?

Damn, I forgot about the force float.

He did I'm seeing it again sat with family so interested to see how second run go's.

I'm sure I'll see it a few more times in the next couple of weeks as well.

Also, I'm not 100% sure Phasma is dead. From the book we know her armor is made out of starship metal. We see a blaster bounce right off it. She is very tough so I don't think she is dead yet.

So is "Chrome Dome" (what a weird out of place joke) the new Bobba Fett? A really cool character design that was wasted.

That little yoda like woman in FA seemed weirdly out of place as well, why are we watching an action sequence over Skype with this character?

Also the universe feels so small in this, she knows one elite hacker who happens to be on a nearby casino planet that Finn and Rose are going to be able to light speed jump to that's less the 6 hours away.

I was shocked that those little penguin monsters on Luke's planets weren't really annoying at all. Reminded me of how I ended up feeling about BB8 in FA (thought he would be bad but ended up liking him) that said they really squandered him in this, nothing of what he did was cute or funny to me.

Thinking back on this movie more now that I've had a bit of time, I really think it's actually a bad movie. Maybe I don't need a second watch after all. Might have even soured me a bit on FA now that I know there were no payoffs. This director is in charge of all the future movies for awhile now right? JJ is out?

I wish I could pin point what it is the prevailed this entire movie for me that's turned me off so much. I'm not usually this negative on media or want to vent so much. Usually I can shrug it off sorry guys.

JJ is doing 9.

Unfortunately JJ created this mess where hyperspace seems so much shorter now. This is something I'm not a fan of in the new trilogy but you can't really fight against it now.

The hacker thing, could have been completely avoided. What was a payoff of it? I cant think of anything because the plot twisted.

This is an example of fun stuff that builds the Star Wars universe and is a very Star Wars thing. We see more about an interesting character from TFA that shows a bit why she has been around for 1000 years.

While maybe it could have been cut, it shows a bit how it is not just FO/Resistance when Finn learns this planet sells to everyone, it shows there are still places with underlings and shows some of Rose's background and also goes toward teaching Poe that these slap dash plans won't always work.

Also, was that Jessica Henwick's character in the A wing in the beginning? It was hard to tell.

Seemed a bit contrived for Rose's background.

Finn: this planet is beautiful why do you hate it?

Rose: Take a closer look past the surface.

Finn literally looking through binoculars first thing he sees is someone beating animals and children.

It was a bit on the nose .

They could have lost that entire subplot and the movie would have been better for it. No crappy cg animal chase scene, no need to explain the whole no one noticing a ship leaving the rebels ship as space debris, and no need for the hacker character.

The only reason it was there was to give Finn something to do. If that was going to be the case I'd say leave him in a coma for another movie (like Hans in the cryptonite) and give him a proper reunion with Ray in the next movie. Its not like I got to see him interacting in a fun way with other characters I liked anyway his entire plot was wasted.

Maybe a lot of my problems stem from me not being a huge Starwars fan but instead being a huge fan of Force Awakens and this undoes everything I loved about that movie. I remember coming home from FA and excitedly telling my wife and daughter they have to come see it with me. This time when I came home and they asked me how it was all I could say was "meh" we will have to watch it again on blue ray.

1. The fleet mutiny plot made no sense.
2. Rey basically half-ass trains herself?
3. Some of those scenes were gorgeous. Snoke’s throne room rivaled anything in Blade Runner 2049.

Rose gets her own action figure, right? Right?

Can't believe all the negativity. Reads to me like a lot of grumpiness that Rian Johnson is not feeding the lore beast.

I loved the movie. The only thing that slightly bothered me (but only slightly) was Rose suddenly falling in love with Finn. Maybe some of that was left on the cutting room floor. Or maybe it was just love at first sight. I don't really care that much, I don't really need it spelled out, but I felt like something was missing.

Loved the silly stuff, loved the creature design, oh, just thought of one more thing I didn't really love. The casino scene seemed a bit perfunctory to me. "Okay, now it's time for a place full of aliens..." Still thought the place was gorgeous and I loved the way they escaped casino world by creating a bunch of little rebels.

I think we're meant to infer more from their first meeting, where she's basically in awe of him. Admiration and love aren't really the same thing, but they're not that far apart.

The ring she showed to prove she was in the Resistance is being worn by the little boy in the last scene, and he slightly used The Force to grab the broom he uses. He's not a part of any special family line, but people like him are the ones who are going to join up and rebuild the Resistance.

As for Maz sending them to find that one specific hacker/thief, I think it was more that he was the only one who could do the job that she also trusted. Overlooking that detail is what gets a lot of transport ships blown up.

And apparently there's some confusion over why Luke dies. It's from the strain of projecting himself, a strain that Kylo remarks would have killed Rey if she were the reason they were connecting and seeing each other.

Also, now that I slept on it, The only reason the Canto scene seems unnecessary is because it failed. Usually, these side adventures are what helps cement the win. This worked out differently which slaps Poe in his ruggedly handsome face.

So I was on blackout and now I am going back to watch the trailers. If you hate having the almost all the movie's main plot points set before you then I hope you didn't watch the trailers. Almost everything is in this thing and the others offer more. They also paint a picture of what I thought i was going to get as a movie and not what we got. If I'd been hyped up on these trailers I'd have been destroyed that almost all the fine points were given away and that Luke was not who I expected him to be anymore. Instead he was a shell of his former self, unwilling to train, unwilling to be what Rey wanted.

Ok trailer rant over. Still loved the movie and surprisingly the animals. I did enjoy that it turned the normal tropes of what we get in a Star Wars adventure on their head. I am afraid of what going back to JJ will be unless he uses Rian as big help.

I loved the explanation of Rey's parent's. I thought it worked perfectly; they were a couple of drunks who sold her for booze. That's it. Greatness can come from any beginning.

IMO, the fans made a deal about Rey's parents more than the movie did. Same as they pumped up Phasma.

Did they or was that due to the marketing? Couldn't throw a rock without hitting a Phasma cutout for TFA.

Also came across my friend who had the same thought I did afterward. Is it a spoiler to say you liked this movie. I feel people are wanting a movie they won't get and if I say I liked it I don't want to ruin their experience. Bah.
