Euro Truck Simulator 2 catch-all

Enjoy those Mafia-built highways in Southern Italy, while you're at it In real life, they are mostly empty as most people are using parallel roads without tolls. It's pretty difficult to find a worse waste of EU money anywhere in Europe.

I remember reading about one down south that follows some ridiculous route - might be the A2, that has taken 55 years to build and is so bad that the EU refuses to classify it as a motorway.

I've now found the book ("Mafia Republic", by John Dickie), and it is the A2 from Napoli to Salerno to Reggia Calabria. Apparently lots of it is so badly constructed that there is a 40km/h speed limit, jams are so frequent that there are chemical toilets by the side of it, and that rather than following the coast, "it cuts tortuously inland to visit the fiefdoms of long-forgotten ministers".

Right, now to find it in my truck...

Maybe it's just me, but have they increased the payouts for jobs that your other drivers do ? The first five or six jobs that scrolled while I was delivering garlic (!) in Italy were all 10k plus, and I don't think they'd been as common as that previously.

Not that I've noticed, and I could really do with it given I'm about £50k in debt at the moment.

I encountered a weird bug taking the ferry from Rostock to Gedser, where at the other end the trailer got stuck on the ferry scenery and started jerking around. Nothing I could do about it and I ended up with 100% damage and a repair bill of over £100k.... plus, the clients weren't too pleased.... I'm not sure what caused it, maybe a trailer pack mod I had installed. To be honest my brief foray into modding the game has been more trouble than it's worth. I enjoy the base game anyway so I'm considering just uninstalling all mods.

TIL there's a photo mode for taking nice screenshots. How did I not know this was in the game!? My screenshots are pants!

Public beta for 1.32 is out. Some major changes, including owning your own trailers ( a whole variety of them, including flatbed, refrigerated ones and doubles).

Booted this up last night for the first time in a few months, but I'm finding the oddities that used to endear me to the game are now annoying me somewhat. A couple of examples - in older areas of the map where a main motorway lane suddenly becomes an off ramp, with little warning or chance to move over. Compounding this is the fact that indicators are basically useless. I think I'm ready for Euro Truck 3 to be honest, but it's not on the horizon as far as I know. Does American Truck Simulator fix any of this?

I wouldn't be holding your breath for ETS 3, given the amount of future updates predicted for ETS 2. These include the trailor options I mentioned in my previous post, the introduction of new areas (Baltic states) and the map reworks for older areas which are ongoing, beginning with Germany.

As for ATS, I don't recall seeing any of the onramp issues, but to be honest I hardly seem to play it because I can't generate any interest in the places...driving through the desert between LordKnows (NM) and WhoCares (AZ) doesn't seem to hold my interest.

Is that not actually common in reality? I know here in Atlanta there are any number of places where two or even three lanes of the Interstate become the off-ramp with little warning.

And by indicators do you mean turn signals? Again, here most people seem to take those to mean "Someone is trying to get into my lane! I better speed up and cut them off so they won't get ahead of me!"

Lol yes, indicators=turn signals.

Unless my little corner of the UK is uncommonly blessed with excellent road layouts, it's actually very unusual here.

Turn signals are a sign of weakness.

What, you don't got indicators in space?

Not even on SPACE! HIGHWAYS!

SCS have said that they are revisiting and refreshing older areas of the map; Germany is their focus right now, but I'm sure will be others.

SCS blog wrote:

We know that one of the items very high on the community's wishlist is that we put some attention on older parts of the game world. We are happy to reveal that a small but passionate team of map designers is already working on retouching and refreshing parts of our base game map to bring it up to or at least close to our current standard of visual quality as present in the latest map DLC. The oldest regions we built years ago need the most care, so our choice of where to start was clear: Germany. [SCS blog, May 23, 2018]

From my experience as an UK expat in the US what is uncommon in the UK (leftmost lane becoming an off ramp) is very common here in the US - though it's the right lane as we drive on the right side here.

New patch is now live (check out the trailers !), and they seem to have addressed some of your issues, Kergguz.

Germany has had a significant makeover...lots more signs, changed road layouts (my map explored percentage fell from 59.7 to 56.6). There's also overhead gantry signs that indicate turnoffs much earlier than before, and whether the right hand line is solely turnoff, or whether it is either/or, by use of a right arrow or branching arrow. I've only done one run thus far (Malmo to Nuremberg, carrying 19t of cottage cheese in my new refrigerated trailor), but seems smooth enough.

One thing I did notice - the first completed runs for your drivers seem to lose money, for some reason. I've probably lost about 100k while I was doing my own drive - but then, I do have 43 drivers. I'll keep an eye on this as I go along.

Thanks Dave. I drove for a couple of hours last night, albeit not in Germany. However, there did seem to be a few little improvements. I was driving in Hungary and while the road layouts were still a pain there seemed to be a few more animations- like a moving horse in a field and a couple of extra police incidents. I'm not sure if it was new or if I only just noticed them. Anyways, glad to hear they're improving the map.

I didn't notice anything like the losing money bug you mentioned so I'd say it's probably patched.

Yeah - I seem to be back making proper money again. Bought meself a refrigerated trailor for £118k, paid for itself in one trip (Rome to Paris with 5t of medical vaccines, £124k). Now got 3, will probably end up seeding one at each of my depots (14).

My own cashout notwithstanding, my drivers generated about 500k worth of work while I was on that run. I'm now standing at £34.4m, but in my own defence this save was started in February. 2015.

DLC (apart from the new Baltic one, and some of the US states for ATS) are between 50 and 70% off this weekend on Steam.

Right, off to visit Finland.

They almost tricked me into buying paint jobs until I remembered you can mod in pretty much any paint job you want. Off to Russia later!

This is impressive.

I've driven about 3,500 of those kilometres so far, running many a red light and endangering the lives of virtual motorists all over eastern europe.

Hey, that's really cool! Thanks for the head up!
I like your jet set willy avatar!

I find euro truck sim 2 and American truck sim really zen, I used to put them on of a night time just before bed with some music or a podcast and it wasn't long before my troubles were drifting away and my eyelids were getting heavy.

This'll be a great time eater during lockdown for anyone looking to stay semi-occupied and keep the nasty thoughts at bay.

I'm gonna be sprinting for the finish in a high score competition tomorrow, but after that's done, I'm definitely gonna fire american truck sim up and clock some miles.

Limmys probably done the lions share of Scotland's contribution on his own!

That is amazing. I'm gonna take some time off from my newly-acquired Pathfinder Kingmaker and dust off ATS and contribute to the miles!

Thanks! I adored that game on my dads old Spectrum 48k. Happy memories.

Good man! Don't forget, in order to contribute you have to take External Contracts from the jobs list (not sure how obvious that is so apologies if it comes across condescending!).

Just saving my game today, and I noticed that the previous full save (before I bought my own trucks, I think) was week 2.

Saved in February 2015.

What's the difference between a full save and the autosave it does when you Quit?

So thanks to this thread I got thinking about the game. I've played it on and off here and there, mostly to see what I'd want out of a space version, but I really love what they've done with the game.

Well recently, due to events, I've really been missing driving. I love driving, and while losing my job made me do it less, recent events have all but killed my driving for a while. So, again, thanks to this thread, I loaded up some Al Green on Spotify -- which is one thing I constantly listen to when I drive IRL -- and did a couple of missions.

The calm that washed over me was something I'd not felt in weeks. It was just exactly what I needed, so now I plan to do a lot more of it. I feel like it'll definitely be a balm during these trouble times, so I wanted to thank y'all for putting it in my brainium.

That's what I'm getting out of it too, Veloxi. Words I never thought I'd hear myself say - I miss my commute.
