New TV Season 2017-18

I wasn’t too hot on it after the first episode but it’s grown on me. I just wish Ron Funches had a larger role, I’m a huge fan but it seems like he just can’t get a break on tv. He either gets bit parts or his shows get cancelled early.

At their best, the CW superhero shows appeal to our younger and current selves. Right now, they're appealing to my adolescent desire to see Supergirl and the the Green Arrow whale on Nazis, while also appealing to my adult desire to see Supergirl and the Green Arrow whale on Nazis.

We've reached peak 2017 when it's superpowered Nazis showing up to ruin a superhero wedding.

I haven't been watching the shows not called Supergirl, but hearing about the crossover I picked'em back up to see the whole thing.

I clapped when Sarah sidled up to the bar to share a drink with a certain someone.

These shows do still know how to have fun with these characters. Maybe I should keep going with'em again.

When I came to accept that they're just teenage-y soap opera drama types but with fun super hero fighting the shows really lightened up for me and I'm able to enjoy them more.

Well, if you ask me:

Legends is the easiest to recommend, as they've leaned quite well into being goofy and having a crew of f*ck-ups bouncing off each other, and can thus just do fun stuff, rebounding all over like an American Superhero version of Doctor Who. Last season's highlight had them needing to convince a film student in the early 70s name of George Lucas to become a director, so that's sort of what to expect.

I'm a bit biased when it comes to Arrow, because Green Arrow and Black Canary are probably my favorite characters in the comic superhero canon, but after a really strong previous season, this one has gone to a really interesting place not addressed in the crossover--

Spoiler:

Right now, Ollie has retired for a bunch of pretty good reasons, and at his request, Diggle is the Green Arrow.

Flash is getting back to being fun and occasionally silly and relying less on some of its old and played tricks. They've added the Elongated Man, who helps a fair bit.

Yeah, Elongated Man is the best. It's an odd mix of him and Plastic Man in this current characterization but that's good because the basic version of Elongated Man was that he's a very 'boy scout' type of detective.

Holy crap this new season of SHIELD, is bonkers! I did not expect this! I'm loving it so far.

Me too, gotta love the whole team's reactions to being in space. I have no idea how they will solve this.

Wait what? They're in space now? How did THAT happen?

Last episode of last season... last 30 seconds... Coulson is in space. They recap the how part though.

Man, I'm not gonna watch it, spoil it for me!

So, wait. This is a new-new season? Like season 5? I had no idea.

Yeah, started late for whatever reason.

Most of the episode's surprises in one sentence...

Spoiler:

We don't know how yet, they got kidnapped by aliens and are in the future and the Earth has been blown up.... but Fitz isn't with them and left them a postcard...

Wait a second...was it blown up to make way for an interstellar highway?

Never knew that Lucifer is actually based the character from Neil Gaiman's Sandman comics, which later spun off into its own series.

Tonight's Supergirl was pretty good. One of the best fight scenes of the show. I wonder if they went all out to grab some people that were brought in by Crisis.

The only thing they share is the name.

Anyway tonight's episode was great. This show is at its best when dealing with the supernatural.

That would make sense. I heard DC Legends was the biggest benefactor of last weeks crossover. They were the final show and got a pretty good bump ratings wise.

Happy! I liked it fine, but all the best bits from the first episode were in the trailers. I wasn’t as blown away as I was hoping but I’ll keep watching.
It’s also way more faithful to the comics than I expected, this episode went nearly scene-for-scene through one and a half issues of the comics series... of which there are only four issues. I’m curious where they’re going to take the story since they’ve already used up a third of the source material.

Started watching the latest season of Outlander. Good so far, but the actress playing Brienne is horribly wooden in most of her scenes. It's really bizarre seeing everyone else acting around it.

I was surprised too because except for "Satan on a break", the characters aren't much alike. Of course, I only know the comic character from his brief appearances in Sandman.

Though a great inclusion to the show would be the two angry angels doomed to cover Lucifer's position in Hell.

There's one Angel that has to do that in the show. He's not happy about it.

They did show Mazikeen's true face during a Halloween episode. It was awesome.

Has anyone checked out Knightfall? It's like Vikings only with Knight's Templar. I DVR'd it last night but haven't had a chance to watch it yet.

Arrow in the knee made me giggle... the gopro view inside helmets is annoying. Besides that it's a decent start.

Anybody still watching the final season of Major Crimes? After opening the season with Sanctuary City parts 1 - 5, they jump into another multi-show arc? Bleh. At this point, I just want to see how it ends and don't really care how they get there.

My wife and I love Major Crimes. Not sure what there is to be bleh about. I like the multi-part stories, and the show continues to be be progressive in its commentary on current social issues. It's far, far better than it has ever gotten credit for. It's also far, far better than The Closer ever was, which was also a favorite of ours.

I'm more interested in if they are planning a new spin-off. It seems odd that they added a new team member at this point.

I've not been able to bring myself to watch Major Crimes since The Closer ended, which is likely a mistake, but ugh.

I just felt like the five part season opener dragged on and could have been easily edited down to two episodes, three tops. Now I'm worried that the next case is just going to be more of the same. Not watching any more weekly episodes until I have the last one recorded and I can just binge watch all of them.
