Giant Bomb Bomb-All

I’ve got a GB prediction list and will post it tomorrow. I need to add PUGB to my list.

I didn't get that at all from Dan, but I do like him as a person. While he's not the brightest person, he seems to earnestly want to learn and improve himself. I think it's not necessarily fair to hate someone because of their level of intelligence, and he has other strengths. I'm incredibly envious of his ability to meditate as long and consistently as he does, he has amazing social skills, and he obviously has a big passion for life.

As for the whole D&D thing, I wish I had a chance to sit down and explain it to him, because the rest of the group are damn awful at explaining things to him. I love them, but they use terrible metaphors and often only partly understand the subjects themselves. When they all played D&D before, it was a nightmare watching Rorie trying to blindly fumble his way through DMing it.

yo any interest in predicting the GB top 10 GOTY list this year? I am interested.

I'll join in if anyone organizes anything, but I'm not going to be as proactive as last year. I just want to relax and see if NieR: Automata makes it past #10 on the list. If it doesn't make the list, I'm unsubscribing in solidarity with Alex quitting his job.

Nier will be somewhere between 4 and 7 and all of its fans will screech loud enough to shatter glass because those Philistines only said it was a top ten game this year.

1) PLAYERUNKNOWN'S BATTLEGROUNDS
2) Super Mario Odyssey
3) Zelda: Breath of the Wild
4) Destiny 2
5) Cuphead
6) Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus
7) NieR: Automata
8) Horizon Zero Dawn
9) Assassin's Creed: Origins
10) Pyre

That's my prediction. I'm not very confident on AC: Origins, Pyre, and Horizon and those spots are almost always replaced with someone's baby. NitW, Splatoon 2, Tacoma, Dream Daddy, and LiS: BtS seem like good candidates.

Edit: Dream Daddy and Life is Strange as dark horses as well.

Don’t forget Dream Daddy.

I don’t think Destiny will be that high.

I'm thinking Zelda will end up higher than Super Mario. The only person who was really high on it was Dan, and he was also high on Zelda.

I'm also wondering if Abby is gonna choose Dream Daddy as her last stand. I do think HZD is gonna get on there somewhere over Assassin's Creed. Jeff gave that a 5 star review. My hope is that they don't put Destiny 2 on there to make room for good games. I'm afraid Brad will fight for that one, unfortunately.

9) Dream Daddy
10) Nioh

+1 to your top 3*

I think NieR is going to be in there at the end.

I don't see AssCreEgypt staying on the list since none of them have actually finished it and Vinny hasn't played at all. No one to keep it on the list.

Horizon might not be on there at all, frankly. No one is in love with it anymore and they mostly all played it a long time ago.

I get the feeling Dan is going to blow the list up by sticking by something terrible.

I also think that Jason might manage to sneak Nioh on there.

*Unless it's Zelda, Mario, PubG. Which it might be.

EDIT: Oh sh*t I forgot Yakuza 0. Ok, blow the whole above list up.

I love Yakuza 0 but Dan hated playing it and seemed confused by the story.

I feel NieR will be on the list but lower due to everyone agreeing that the story goes places but takes a long time to get there and no one enjoyed playing it. Similar to Wolfenstein 2 but a shorter experience that nearly everyone completed. Destiny 2 is greatly enjoyed by all even for only a week. Jeff's telling that he got 60 hours of great fun out of it that the rest of the Beastcast agreed with is a probably a hint. Cuphead could be this years Bastion and rise to the point where it challenges PUBG, Mario, & Zelda but I think Destiny ultimately will be slightly higher.

I could see having a tough time following it fully with three people talking and trying to keep it pacy enough for the audience. There's a lot of reading to be done if you want to follow the story, a lot of mechanical stuff is left unexplained and the minigame content is hard to really engage with if you're trying to keep things tight.
(Also insert the usual anti-Dan arguments here.)

I'm also pretty sure it will end up on the list (unlike GWJ's ) As to where, I have no idea, although I agree it'll probably be lower. It may end up a little higher than I'd predict just because I think most of them do have a certain amount of respect for it. Brad left his opinion out on the last Bombcast, so I'm not sure where he falls.

I think NieR and Destiny 2 have me most excited for the discussions just because I have no idea where they'll land.

I know everyone deep-dove into Destiny 2, but man it seems like they were all SUPER cold on it like .5 seconds after beating the Raid. Feels like it's been mentioned with a tone of disdain ever since. Maybe grinding out the Raid really put them off?

Won't be shocked if it ultimately does make the list, but man I've never seen them turn so hard on a game before.

That raid is perhaps the deepest example of abusive game design I have ever seen in a mass-market game, including trapdoor-fight MMO raids, so I'm not surprised it left bad tastes in their mouths.

And even all that said, they've all said they'll go play the expansions.

I tend to think when two games are close whichever game Jeff liked more will end up higher. Seems to work out that way.

They played the raid in a way that no normal player should or would in multiple respects, and it went predictably bad. That kind of thing can easily sour most people on an experience real quick, regardless of what came before.

Anyway, I'd love to see them acknowledge it higher on the list for all the things it does well (I generally seem to like the game more than most) and for the amount of time that they DID enjoy the game (after all, they enjoyed it enough to decide to try doing the raid). But, I also would be quite unsurprised to see land in the lower half of the list or maybe even somehow get the boot due to some manifestation of the usual shenanigans.

Either way, I too am most looking forward to seeing how things go down with Destiny and Nier. Should be quite an interesting series of podcasts!

Tbh GB goty makes me want to argue with people. GWJ’s is fun but just personal lists.

Doing a comparison to come up with a collective list sounds great.

Or doing a meta conversation about where GB lands sounds just stupid enough to be fun.

I enjoy the deliberations 95% time, only souring on them when it gets personal and the knives come out over a single Overall GOTY pick.

Looking at you, Brad.

This ugliness never seems to come out in any of the other categories. The individual categories feel way more care-free and fun.

The worst discussion of all time was the Best DLC argument between Brad and Vinny over Minerva's Den and Lair of the Shadow Broker. It's one of the few segments I just can't listen to.

Nier not making it into the top 5 either on GB or on here would make me very sad. Having something like Cuphead being put above it will make me even sadder.

PUBG I don't think I'll ever really understand the appeal of, since I have no friends and don't play online, so I'm already preparing myself for it to be GOTY. I guess I should go into our thread and put in my list with just Nier and Hellblade on it, just so I can say I did.

I will go with a bold prediction:

1. Zelda
2. Nier
3. PUBG
4. Mario

I think Dan goes on Mario Maker levels of monologue about Zelda, and I think everybody else seemed to really like it as well.

Everybody seemed to really like Nier, and there were are a few who LOVE it like Alex and I think Ben.

PUBG is in the Hitman spot, but I don't think it quite hits that level, the person who seems to have played it the most is Dan, and he will put it below Zelda for sure.

Well, here's my prediction I guess. I think I've got the games figured out pretty well, but the order is... difficult. I may revise after today's Bombcast. They sometimes hint at stuff.

1) PLAYERUNKNOWN'S BATTLEGROUNDS
2) Zelda: Breath of the Wild
3) Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus
4) Super Mario Odyssey
5) Cuphead
6) NieR: Automata
7) Horizon: Zero Dawn
8) Yakuza 0
9) Destiny 2
10) Dream Daddy

I'm preparing myself for disappointment/disagreement. But that's basically par for the course when your taste in games doesn't line up with most people.

That list seems pretty legit to me. Maybe Nier above Cuphead, or Wolfenstein below Mario? But I bet you will be close there.

I don't know that I can understand a person who would put Cuphead above Nier. Or Wolfenstein 2. Or definitely PUBG.

I'm lowering my expectations as much as I can so I'm not disappointed if it only gets in the bottom half.

On the flip side I haven't played any of the games circling around most 2017 Best Of nominations and I'm finding it liberating as hell. Well, I did play the outlier nom Divinity: Original Sin 2 and quite enjoyed it, but it ultimately didn't make my final cut.

Point is that I liken it to watching the Superbowl. As a Boston native and a Pats fan in general, watching their repeated appearances have made the Big Show miserable for me during the Brady era. Nothing but self-induced panic attacks, sitting on the edge of my seat feeling like I'm going to either throw up or have a heart attack from one play to the next.

Conversely, it's pretty awesome not having a horse in the race. I know none of my picks for GOTY have a chance in hell ranking so there's no pressure. Nothing to take personal as my attention and affections are focused elsewhere.

I'm still curious over the final results, but feel way more relaxed in just enjoying the rollout with no skin in the game.
