Rank Anything!

Lousy Smarch weather.

In Tucson it goes:

1. February
2. January
3. December
4. November
12. October
12. September
12. August
12. May
12. April
12. March
12,000. June
12,000,000. July

As a Tucsonan for over ten years, I'd drop September / October down further on the list. Those are the months in which it always seems like the terror should be over, but it isn't. Dear God, it isn't. I might actually hate them more than July, because in July at least you EXPECT it to be miserable.

August is the same rank as March? Tucson weather must be a lot different compared to where I am (near Memphis), which isn't much different as far as latitude goes. Here, August is typically just as hot as July (which you ranked as a million times worse), especially the first half of August, whereas March here is almost as cold as February.

I think what redeems August in my mind is the "monsoon season" we have here in the late summer. It typically happens in both July and August, but my gut feeling is that August is not as bad. June on the other hand is as hot as it gets, and never a cloud.

Maybe March should be promoted to #5, since it's not *that* bad. This year it didn't really start heating up until mid-April. By the end of April going into May it was over 100 regularly.

Ah, the wet season. That would definitely provide some needed relief to the desert southwest's summer. I've never lived there or known anyone who did, so I was totally unaware.

So, would you become "triggered" (as the kids say these days) if I asked you how dry June and July's heat is there?

Oh, it’s dry. It’s also typically over 110F, so “dry heat” really doesn’t help.

Word. The inside of my oven's a dry heat; I don't want to live there either.

That sounds like the beginning of a scene from Quentin Tarantino's Barbie.

I don't want to watch a Tarantino Barbie, but now I definitely want to see the Life in the Dreamhouse episode that's a kid-friendly tribute to Tarantino.

That list is Tabletop RPGs.

The only Tabletop RPG I played was Dungeon World. Definitely my favorite!

Ranking of Metallica albums until they stopped being good*.

  • Kill 'Em All
  • Ride the Lightning
  • Master of Puppets
  • ...And Justice for All
  • Metallica

* Where "the last good Metallica album" is defined as "the first Metallica album you heard".

^^^ That's pretty spot on.

I'd just flip the first two as Lightning was my Metallica discovery album (Christ, Megaforce Records were on fire back then).

I really had to talk myself into liking Justice.

Black album sucked.

I was done with them by that point.

Not to be totally cynical 'cause I was OBSESSED with them from '84 - '88 or so. They brought me a lot of joy back then.

After not listening to any Metallica for about 20 years, I took a punt on Death Magnetic a few years back.

You know what? It was pretty good. Definitely scratched that itch.

Now that I think about it, it might well have been the very last physical CD I bought....

That did give me an idea though.

80's Thrash albums.

1. S.O.D. - Speak English or Die / Slayer - Reign in Blood*
2. Exodus - Bonded By Blood
3. Metallica - Ride The Lightning
4. Megadeth - Killing Is My Buisness...And Buisness Is Good (sometimes I favor Rust In Peace)
5. Anthrax - Spreading The Disease
6. Nuclear Assault - Handle With Care
7. Testament - The New Order
8. Metal Church - Blessing In Disguise
9. Whiplash - Power and Pain
10. Overkill - Under The Influence

* These two are deadlocked in an eternal struggle for my #1 and #2 top spot, changing positions on a regular basis.

Nice list! I would've had Prong and Sepultura as strong runner-ups.

Marvel TV shows:

1. The Incredible Hulk (slow walking away music)
2. Jessica Jones
3. Legion
4. Luke Cage
5. The Gifted
6. The 90’s X-Men Cartoon
7. Daredevil S1
8. The second half of Agents of Shield S1
9. The Punisher (but only because I choose to believe the story was set largely in Archie’s hometown of Riverdale)
10. Airwolf

Solid list! it seems that you limited yourself to picking one album from each band. I would've replaced Lightning with Puppets for Metallica, and replaced Killing with Peace Sells for Megadeth (I think Rust in Peace is their best, but that wasn't an 80s album). While Years of Decay is a great Overkill album, I actually like Taking Over better; it just felt more raw and aggresive to me.

Here are a few more great 80s thrash albums (by bands not listed by Aaron), in no particular order:

• Hallows Eve - Death and Insanity
• Suicidal Tendencies - How Will I Laugh Tomorrow When I Can't Even Smile Today
• Sepultura - Beneath The Remains
• Kreator - Extreme Aggression

[edited to fix typos]

Heh. Yeah, Overkill's Taking Over was the bomb, loved the album cover too. I actually screwed up and listed the wrong Overkill album as I really meant Under The Influence (Edited in now). Also thought about dropping Suicidal's Laugh Tomorrow on my list as well. Great stuff.

It's crazy how many lesser-known acts didn't make the cut. Groups that I still loved either way...

Venom
Exciter
Helloween
DRI
Mercyful Fate / King Diamond
Wargasm
Tank
Agnostic Front

Man, I could just go on and on.

Damn, those times rocked.
