Monster Hunter World Catch-All

Here's a pretty good preview video for newer players:

That's a nice preview indeed. I'm really excited to hear the game goes to great lengths to show rookies the ropes in an engaging way while not constraining the vets. Hopefully the upcoming beta/demo hews to this approach too.

The first 18 seconds of that preview captures so much of what I enjoy about MH, by the way. You better believe the very first thing I'm doing is going into the options and turning on the gibberish voices.

Argh, such hype. I went ahead and saw the Anginath fight they linked at the end. I'm really looking forward to being bad at the charge blade.

If you want to dodge fast and have a heavy weapon you should try hammer.

Game Informer: 60 Questions And Answers About Monster Hunter: World

This rapid-fire format was fun to watch.

Jeff Cork:
What's your favorite weapon to watch people fail to use properly?
Ryozo Tsujimoto:
The hunting horn.

Yep.

My man!

I don't remember if it has been discussed but is there a G rank in MHW? I know that difficulty scales in multiplayer but with how questing has been changed in MHW I don't know if G rank has been addressed yet.

No indication that it is. I doubt it will be in the initial release.

I'm assuming everyone on PS4 will be jumping on the beta in a couple weeks?

Should I be adding hyped thread folk in preparation? Timezones and all that, but am hoping will be able to hop into a few GWJ hunts...

For sure! I am making sure I have some free time that weekend for the beta.

Start adding people here now for multiplayer action. Because once the hunt is on, it's on. Can't be wasting time with adding friends when there are monster skins to turn into pretty armor!

I'll be on the beta (when is it again?), so feel free to friend me up!
PSN name is the same as GWJ

I'm down for the beta too.

9-12 December. Not that I have it blocked off on my calendar and maybe took a day off from work or anything like that.

E: okay, I guess technically starting 9 Dec and lasting a minimum of three days.

I'll be in, but I'm hoping to get my discount code from PSN before I pre-order.

Of course the demo is on the weekend I am out of town. Might be able to get some play time in on Monday or Tuesday though.

Did they confirm multiplayer for the beta/ demo? I'll try to find the GWJ group tonight.

I thought it must be, but had to check...

Yep it is

Cool, I've no idea how much time I'll be able to get in, but will get to adding.

Is there a group?

I did an edit on gamerparent quote here to the only important part of the statement. Below is what should of been said.

Someone should try Hunting Horn - nothing beats a group +20% attack, +20% Defense, Earplugs, Wind resistance buffs

Did someone say Hammer?

I'm going to try Hammer.

That's crazy. A level of mastery that I'll never have of really any game.

What buffs did they get for lighting themselves on fire?

That is why dyni is for. Just stay away from my head.

(Note: I'm trying to be more lighthearted, not an asshole)

Hunting Horn main here.

HH has the same KO factor on the head that Hammerfolk do. Doing the right swings (basically anything other then F+X+A) will not make people fly. Unlike half the moveset of the Hammer Also, HH doesn't have as much, if any, bounce and brings buffs to the party.

Whatchu got Hammerfolk?

I'm always lighthearted and yet an asshole at the same time.

1. As someone that has spent hours hammering on a head getting knocked over by Dyni in MH4U He does not follow "Doing the right swings (basically anything other then F+X+A) will not make people fly" .
2. Our charged attack
3. Hammer > All

In more seriousness I skipped the last MH and more just only ever played status dual blades or Hammer. I play enough games I'm more than satisfied sticking to hammer. I just find it a nice easy to learn, great starter weapon. It also was a great solo weapon even vs harder G Rank 1-2 stuff once you get better. Only major negative t hammer is when you need a part from a tail. That is when you get Squaps (Dyni's brother) to come chop off some tails for you.

Lighting themselves on fire?

I think Gaine is talking about the barrel that blew up, but that didn't light them on fire, that damage over time is because they are overheating in the desert. (I think, didn't play XX, but that's what it looks like from the games I have played).

On the hammer talk, one of the perks of hammers (at least in Tri) was that hammer weapons typically had better "sharpness" than most other weapons of the equivalent tier. That made it easier to fight in general, but also break some parts. If I remember correctly an example was the Qurupeco without using a hammer it was difficult to break its flintstones the first time you met it, rather than coming back later with better weapons.

It's the same for the Hunting Horn. It has to do with the bounce from armor on some parts. HH gets a buff to actually further reduce the bounce. The downside is, HH usually has less raw power and is more complex to get it all rolling.

Wait, if the barrel wasn't for the DoT, why did he do it? Was there some buff from explosive damage?
