Co-founder of AC/DC Malcolm Young dead at 64

From Rolling Stone. He'd been suffering with dementia for the last few years. Seemed like a really good guy.

61 seems so young for dimentia (he was diagnosed in 2014 or earlier). I had no idea one could be affected by it at such a young age. I wonder if it was partly caused by substance abuse.

Sad, none the less. I wasn't a huge AC/DC fan but Malcolm apparently was the driving force for the band and one of the main writers.

RIP Malcolm. The silent AC/DC member.

I was expecting it, but it's still a shock. I grew to like the band more as I aged than when they were coming up in the 70's, and I enjoyed the sheer consistency and dedication to form they had. Call them punk, or hard rock, or heavy metal, whatever... They celebrated life with a swagger that fits the medium. He will be missed.

AC/DC is one of those bands I regularly cycle through; for a few years they were one of my favorite bands, and I can always go back to them. About once every other year I just binge on them for a week or two, and I've always been amazed how they could make three chords sound so damn entertaining for so long. Sigh. Were I not two days from rotator cuff surgery and down to one arm, I'd be grabbing a guitar and playing some AC/DC tonight.

I was a big AC/DC fan in high school. I didn't follow them after that, but Back in Black has to be one of my all time most played LPs. Sad to know Malcolm suffered from dementia and had to check out at such a relatively young age.

Early onset dementia is a Female Doggo, along with late onset. I've seen some of my wife's residence and heard some of the stories of it. Rest in peace.

Jeez, could they have written one song not from the point of view from a teenager?

Sad day, AC/DC are basically national heroes over here. Malcolm's older brother, George (who played in The Easybeats), passed away only a few weeks ago too.

I've read a lot of stories about his alcoholism, apparently he drank whiskey like it's water. Interestingly, Angus Young is a lifelong teetotaller.

Dementia can be diagnosed as early as the 30s, apparently.

Now that you mention it, I have heard of this.

Scary stuff. Life can be cruel in many ways and early dementia is one of those ways. My uncle had severe MS at an early age and basically became trapped in his body. Still sharp of mind but moving his legs and arms even an inch resulted in excruciating pain. Kind of the opposite of dementia.
