Grim Dawn Catch-All

How much would you expect to pay for a traditional expansion of this size and scope from an independent studio? Personally, anything under $20 is a bargain thanks to the quality of the game plus the support and engagement Crate has offered since GD entered early access.

$18 seems reasonable. Certain other devs ask $15 for a single character DLC.
Haven't got the impression that Crates support for the game has been particularly good though. Instead they seem to have focused on making the expansion.

Base game is $25. So, yeah, the price was a shock.

Note: I backed this game forever ago, so I'm more than happy to fund more development and pay for the expansion. But being almost as costly as the base game is a tad odd.

Ahhh, I didn't realise the base game was priced so low... I bought in back in the very early days too. Comparatively, I kind of see what you're saying, I was just working off the raw value proposition

I was also a KS backer, where $18 got you the whole game. Further evidence for the price shock of the expansion.

That tells me that the base game is under-priced. Also, Blizzard charged $15 for the Necro class in Diablo III so they probably did some market analysis to figure out what the appropriate price point was. And the D3 expansion I think was $30-40 so $18 seems like a bargain here.

The amount of content in this game is massive. The base game is way under-priced. The expansion is properly priced, it just feels expensive because the base game is so dirt cheap.

The game has been improved upon after release, it has been supported. There have been a few balance changes, and a few good inventory management improvements. They also replaced some of the godawful voice acting, which I never would have thought would happen, as I know VO is expensive. All the merchants can still give you a good price on what they've got left, though.

I tried to get that achievement of beating the Warden at lvl 10 and failed. Could get him down to 25% health on the second form but kept dying. Welp. Maybe I'll try solider nightblade some other time.

Go occultist, grab the hellhound and let it do the talking for you. All you've got to do then is kite and re-summon periodically. You can do it from new character to cheevo in about 45 minutes if you know where you're going

Still not sure how I did that.

Completely forgot that I had done the whole KS Deluxe on this game and had been playing off the key I had since beta. Saw the KS email about Malmouth - grabbed my key and had 3 other keys related to the game I had never redeemed for "in game" stuff. Needless to say - I redeemed them

Tagging in!

EDIT - Disregard. I apparently just didn't push the 'S' button ever.

Nevermind

I have a key for the expansion (left over from the KS). First person to post here that wants it, I'll send it either later tonight or tomorrow. No grinders please, and the reason I'm saying to post here is so I don't get flooded with PMs

I'm interested. But dont know when I'll get to play it, so if anyone else show up who are going to use it more, they should get it

I would appreciate it. I was Grim Dawn KS backer, but I was at the level just below the one where they offered the expansion.

I'm playing on a controller, but I'm tempted to try mouse and keyboard (my hesitation in doing so was based off of being on a laptop and having to use a touchpad instead of a proper M+K.) I'm curious if anyone else is using a controller if everyone here is going full M+K.

I'm enjoying this way more than Diablo.

Very generous of you Shadout. Polq, I'll get it sent tomorrow for you.

I hear the Steam Controller works well with this one but not so much normal controllers in my experience. I would like to use a controller but M&K is the way to go

The controller scheme feels like hey lets just move the mouse cursor with the thumb stick when interacting with UI sort of thing so I abandoned it pretty quickly.

Looks like they're working on a better controller UI:

Good! ARPGs play way, way better with a controller.

Patch is out and the controller support seems good! I'd still keep a mouse around for inventory stuff but in my brief time with it it seems very solid

I'm really enjoying the game after taking quite a bit of time off from it. I'm in act 3 right now (Homestead, I think that's act 3) and progressing pretty easily through it. I decided to start on Veteran and really have to see how much I'm going to play through the different difficulties. For now at least it's a great game I do have the expansion to get through, not sure where that fits into the game. Was there ever an Act 4 released? Is AoM act 4?

I think the new act is act V

I bought the 2 expansions during the sale. (plus TQ Ragnarok)
I have to say I am really enjoying crucible mode (best way to level by far) and can't wait until they release the rogue-like dungeon.
Also the necromancer is pretty cool at level 16 so far with almost maxed out summons.

Just wanted to enable here. I feel like I am finally getting enjoyment from this game. The expansion "classes" are really good. The necromancer is definitely the best of all the classes with the inquisitor no far behind. Because of those I discovered new love for the shaman and their summoned squall temp pets. I think this is the key to both Grim Dawn and TQ: the campaign doles out levels so slowly and the quest paths entangle and meander that it is difficult to properly assess which class you want to play. The crucible mode at least lets you jumpstart the first 15 levels which lets you test builds on a whim.
I took my crucible leveled (16) necro back into the campaign and took down the warden. She is level 22 now and previously I had no character higher than 12.
I had 2-3 hours played when I first bought it prior to the expansion. Now that has jumped to 12-13 hours that I count down the hours till I can play again.

Playing a pure summoner Necro+Occulist and having fun as well.
Summoners often have the issue of not being very active or engaging to play, but in this game, at least my spec, might actually be too button-spam intensive.
Sadly droprates seem to be very low at high lvl too, that was one reason I burned out last time on a lvl 75 char after completing the 3 difficulties (which by the way should be a thing of the past in all A-RPGs).
Lvl 65 now on my new char, and I'm reaching the point now where I kinda want to see legendary items from time to time.

Diablo 3 probably took the droprates too far in the other direction, but I wish other games at least would learn a little.

I would recommend playing the Crucible mode for a bit to see if you can gear up your high levels. I would just clear the first 10 rounds over and over and check the reward chests at the end of each set of 10. That seems to mimic the Diablo 3 loot pinata the best. Plus it is a great way to start collecting all those weapons that grant you skills when you equip them.

Each zone in the campaign has a max level range for it's inhabitants, so I've found the most satisfying strategy to be using the crucible to level up, gear up, and flesh out devotions, then heading out to the campaign once I get around the same level as the cap for each area. Gives you a good chance to play with new skills incrementally and devotions really help with survivability too.
