Happy to report the PC version is running 60 FPS at full detail 1440P on my (admittedly) good 1080 GTX computer with an older i7 processor. The FOV slider is appreciated, feels a bit less claustrophobic than say, ME: Shadow of War.

The combat (so far) feels like the basics of Witcher 3 combat without all the magic powers and better bow and arrow feel and variety. Jury is still out for me, but I don't hate it or anything. Early days but I feel like they've done a good job refocusing and changing up their design.

Photo mode is fun! I've snapped some early game, non-spoiler environmental shots in the spoilers below. Click on image for full res version.

I'm not done with Shadow of War! Stop enabling me!

I'm really interested in hearing how this is on the standard PS4. I was really not a big fan of Syndicate but loved Black flag and rogue. The direction this game seems to be heading in seems like it might get me back on board with this series.

PS4 version should be at my house in the next hour... then I have to wait 6 to play it. :'(

Pretty sure this is being played before Wolfenstein, haven't played an AC game in far too long.

That said, using a PS4 Pro so won't be able to talk about how it looks/performs on a regular PS4. :\

There are probably PS4 Twitch streams happening now if you want to see how it's playing.

Here's one

Tagging for when I eventually get around to this.

I'm at work and likely picking it and Mario up on the way home, can't really check streams but haven't heard anything crazy negative on other message boards so far so I'm going to take that silence as a good thing I guess lol. I suspect it's the usual suspect of slightly lower resolution and maybe frame rate issues.

I am trying to decide if this is my launch game for the x or Wolfy.

I couldn't decide between Mario, Assassins and Wolfenstein and so I just bought all 3. I am currently waiting on the UPS person to deliver them.

Waiting

Having watched a couple hours of streams, I'm really hecking tempted to buy an Odyssey version of the Switch just to get Mario too.

No kidding! I'm beginning to get a little tired of the dark in Mordor - yeah, I get the hint is in the title - so some sun in Egypt is sounding pretty good right now.

While the idea of stomping Nazis in the ole US of A is appealing, I think I'll wait for Far Cry 5 to scratch that itch.

Hello Dark Souls control scheme and combat system, that's an interesting change up.

Thank you for the link. Sounds like this version isn't half bad. I bought it yesterday but haven't had a chance to open it yet, looks like I'll be cracking into it today.

I've been away from Assassin's Creed for a few years, and coming back to this, I'm very impressed with the first few hours on PC. Great characters and amazing landscapes.

The parkour movement has been very hassle-free thus far, although I still can't do it with a keyboard - gotta use that Xbox controller.

I actually enjoy the RPG progression stuff they've built in, it gives me a sense of forward motion even when I'm just wandering around exploring I'm gaining XP for various things.

I can't wrap my head around the melee combat just yet - it's VERY different, but the archery is amazing. I can land headshots using the controller with no problem.

The photography mode is unexpectedly fun - you can freeze action at any moment and compose a photo, which is then posted at that location for your friends to see. And you can find photos your friends have taken, some of which are hilarious. (Certis seems to be playing a Egyptian "pinup" photographer...)

But the BEST thing is your eagle buddy. Sending him up to scope out the terrain from above and mark targets is so fun, I can't see it ever getting old. And I know you can upgrade him to get more powers and even harass enemies from above eventually.

It feels like a fresh start to the formula for me, and I can't wait to get my ass back to Egypt.

The rpg progression I am now finding very irritating as it is forcing me to do meaningless grinding to get my level high enough to survive at the next progression of the story.

On the up side I just cleared a site in the middle of a desert in a sandstorm in full stealth and that was a perfect AC moment.

Oh man, loved the sour expression on her face. I asked Karla if it was a bug but apparently that dress was a style of the times.

I'm spending way too much time in photo mode, but it's such a good fit for a tourist game like this!

Mario just came out! I don't need to see this!

Relax and go with the flow. This is not a story-driven game. The intention is for you to make your own story as you go, with exploration and side quests. If you're not having fun with that, the story is probably going to disappoint you, because from what I've read, it's a bit lean.

Has anyone had any luck with finding Tombs? I've only seen the first tutorial style one in Siwa, and have about 15 hours in the game so far. Do they show up as ? on the map?

Also - what kind of HUD do people play with? I've toned it down to the "Light" option, or second one, but am thinking of turning it all the way down. The game does get a bit "Chase the questionmark" gameplay style after a while, which is a shame, but unfortunately I don't see any tools in the game that makes exploration without the icons possible.

About upgrading weapons - does anyone else do like me, and just keep upgrading their favorite weapon and shield? I think its both great, but also a bit sad, since I never find any reason to get any other weapons than the legendary ones I have now.

All in all, I am loving my time here, and its possibly the best looking game on my PS4 by far.

@Razgon I found a random tomb out in the desert under a question mark but that's it so far

As to upgrading weapons I'm with you. Have found a few legendary ones through the papyrus hunts and just upgrading them as I go along.

I feel really stupid, but I can't figure out how to trade with the blacksmith in Siwa. I walk up to him, and nothing happens. I did his quest already, and was able to trade with him once. What am I missing?

EDIT: apparently this is a known issue? But no fix or workaround.

I'm liking it so far (level 10, haven't made it to Alexandria yet, but I reckon that's next).

A funny thing that happened

Spoiler:

I'm playing on easy and was a bit overlevelled at the time, and was just poking around in the temple at Siwa looking for chests and priests to free and got surprised by some dude I hadn't managed to spot with my eagle. I swing at him once, then BOOM the game goes into this extended flashback about how your son dies and I'm all WTF is going on. Turns out that one dude was the masked boss for the Siwa area and I'd killed him with the one hit without even realizing it. (needless to say I hadn't been tracking the story quest that has you kill him)

edit: also the ability that lets you cycle the day night cycle is great. A++ would run into a barracks and murderize four guards in their sleep again.

Just want to say I'm really liking the game so far. Performance seems decent on PS4, graphics are really nice and runs at a fairly stable frame rate. The environment is surprisingly unique, I know Egypt hasn't been featured in a ton of games I was kind of expecting deserts but it's actually a lot more colourful and vibrant then expected. The world is full of life and exploring the environments and just being wowed by the architecture of the time is really neat. Makes me miss the codex the games used to have so I could read up on the history and land marks.

The main character is very relateable. He isn't a lovable rogue like a few of the protagonists have been, he's also not a brooding killing machine. He seems be in his late 30's had a well adjusted family life, and took his responsiblities seriously. Even being driven by revenge there are still moments of humanity that show through, a male that's good with kids and shown to have more paternal instincts feels really rare in games. Sure it's a revenge quest so far and hasn't gotten much deeper but a simple plot is actually a little easier to start off with then the confusing Templar sh*t being thrown at you right out of the gate.

Combat took a bit of getting used to, your not a whirling tornado of blades now, facing to many enemies will end up with you dead. It forces you to actually study situations and carefully pick apart groups of enemies. I'm actually using stealth again in an assassins creed game and it's novel! The ranged combat has been actually useful at picking off targets. Flying Senu around to scout or harass enemies is really fun and useful as well. It works a lot like the owl in farcry primal but it seems more enjoyable for some reason.

The addition of loot in game is pretty neat as well, I find myself changing my combat style a lot just because of new weapon drops. I've been surprised by how different each weapon type has felt. I haven't seen any loot boxes being charged for yet, there are microtransactions for some stuff but atleast they are charging for the item and not a random chance.

Pretty easy to recommend this game so far for anyone on the fence. If you have enjoyed past games but kind of fallen off the last few this one is great jumping in point again.

Ran into a small bug trying to free the priests in Siwa. The action button would not highlight above on of the priests heads. A Save/Reload cleared it thankfully.

I was finishing up exploring Siwa and in the south part of the map there's a ruin. It's pretty impressive, and it has some side areas, but I didn't find anything valuable there. Anyone know if this is just scenery or did I miss something?

I'm not entirely positive, but isn't that the ruin where the tutorial takes place?

Just past the vultures nest? That's the ruin you start in at the beginning of the game.

Early thoughts after this weekend...

A. Damn, they made this desert pretty awesome to look at even when there's not really anything there.

B. Oh god, the side quests are basically mandatory.
B2. If your side quests are mandatory, can you really still call them sidequests? Sure, it doesn't matter which ones I do, but I absolutely have to do enough of them to get to level 10 to go to the next town when I only needed to be 5 to do the previous story quest so...

C. I am not very good at the combat yet, but getting better.

D. In media res might have worked well for like Ezio's third adventure... but for a new character in a new setting with no other context clues, noooooooot so much here. The fact that I have to get to the second town to find out his motivation in-game is heckin' stupid, really.

E. Aya would have been a way cooler protagonist than Bayek. Sorry, men, but seriously, she comes off as way deeper and more interesting than Bayek.
