Is there a not-too-hard way to get telemetry data? Like graphs of gas/brake pedal positions? I've heard one of you lot talking about a telemetry app. I'd be interested to compare the Bismarck/Lupus/Fastmav traces against the me/Nickson/Domano traces.

You can change the default overlay in PCars to show pedal application, gear, tyre temps, etc. So it looks like this:

Outside of that there are actual telemetry apps you can get, like this one.

Rock'n'roll.

I was aware of the HUD option, but that doesn’t provide the time-based kind of telemetry I’m interested in.

I’ll have a play around with that app – given that my day job often involves being given a big telemetry dataset from a flight where sh*t goes south and having to figure out what the hell happened, I tend to think in terms of graphs. Can’t help but feel that being able to visualize my driving style that way will be illustrative.

Anyone else use this or something similar? I'd totes like to do some comparisons.

The old Simbin games had a license to plug into the pro version of MoTec and looking at all the traces in that was fascinating.

I looked at ones I'd made two years apart and the significant difference was how much earlier I could get onto the throttle now, compared to 2015. It led to such higher top speed at the end of the subsequent straight and about a second faster lap time at Donington National, which was only about an 85 second lap to start with.

You're my kind of nerd, Bismarck.

This is what the MoTec traces look like. There are many other things you can track, like suspension travel, tyre temps and torque - you can set it up any way you like.

One cool thing MoTec does is animate the traces...

I'm just glad on the night I watched there weren't any goal posts anywhere near the track or FastMav's car would have gone straight for them. He can't help but hit goal posts.

I was about to buy Project Cars 2 and learn how to drive so I could join you when you switch over and then my friend bought me Divinity:OS2. And Mario is arriving Friday. And I just bought Destiny. Arghhh!

I'll just watch the streams for now.

Do eeet! The competition for last place could do with more players

tagging for fun in the future. Is a wheel recommended or to hell with wheels we are all here to crush other's hopes?

A wheel is recommended, but not required. At one point EvgerythingsTentative was driving with a controller and Toph was using a HOTAS flight stick to steer and a Dance Dance Revolution mat for his pedals.

What he said. A wheel is recommended to maximise your own enjoyment, but you could be steering with voice commands for all I care.

Spoiler:

Though maybe set up your mic to be push-to-talk if you do? :)

My rear suspension was seriously messed up after the start line incident, I only kept driving in hopes someone would crash worse then me (Nickson did)

No! Nickson didn't crash. Nickson's car disintegrated....TWO!!! times.

BEP, I was using a PS4 controller until the current season. I was still having a blast.

Round 5 is November 9th at 9pm EST. We will be at Hockenheim National.

Only two more nights.

Spoiler:

I'm really just putting this here to remind myself to practice. :)

That bump on the exit of Parabolika can suck a bag of dicks.

How would one suck a bag of dicks or is that too much for this thread?

Spoiler:

One at a time or do you just suck on the bag that's holding them?

The answer you're looking for is "with a minimum of teeth", same as with singular dicks.

Tonight is the night! Are we excited?

I'm excited that it won't be raining.

Practice last night went better than usual. Which I assume means I'm finally getting vaguely used to the Gulf?

There's some skinny bits of track at Hockenheim. I fear/am excited that it's going to be a messy race.

There is a good chance the curbs will eat one of us.

I predict the kerbs will eat half the field over the course of the two races. As the tyres start to go it doesn't take much to get one of those fast, sweeping corners wrong and end up straddled. The kerbs seem to have a really high midpoint designed to beach careless drivers.

And that's the best outcome - if you hit them just slightly faster than that they throw you off nose first into a wall.

There's some secret sadism in play with this design.

On the plus side, plenty of my kerbscursions resulted in a comparatively gentle dip in gravel soup.

I didn't practice and after last race, I can't afford a bad showing. Here's hoping everyone else meets the kerbs before I do.

You can always give them a little nudge... Especially Mustard. Give him a full body check in the wall for me.

Eh, I just use other cars' rear bumpers to reduce my speed before those tight turns. Works every time!

Spoiler:

Kidding. Mostly.

I probably can't join you and thus add to the very, very bottom of the scoreboard tonight, but I'm interested in future races.

Apologies for the newb questions, but: Do we use Twitch/Curse for voice comms? Is matchmaking through Steam, or in-game? And we all use the same model of car, right? It is the same one every race? Thanks in advance!

Yes, this year we're all in the Formula Gulf. Low power open wheeler.

We use the GWJ Discord for chat and whoever is running the lobby sends out invites through Steam.

Stream will be here.

Edit: Stream is live!

Praise be to my pit crew for that second race.
