Space Sims/Strategy Games Catch-All

Oooo, color me interested! Does allegiance handle hotas integration well?

OMG Astrox Imperium announced!

http://astroximperium.com/

Hey friends, welcome to another week of spacey gaming, and what an insanely busy week it's gonna be. This is because we not only have THREE games of the week this week (plus the usual Space Rangers entry, which I've yet to record, but I will), we have three events coming up rather than our usual two. For our games of the week, the first is the so-far-it's-pretty-amazing Heat Signature! The second game of the week is the kind-of-sloggy-but-I-hope-it-gets-better Ancient Frontier. The final game of the week is the so-buggy-I-couldn't-even-finish-it SpaceDwellers!

On this week's podcast (Tuesday, 6:00 AM Pacific, Twitch, YouTube), we're doing an early show to welcome the developer of the upcoming space exploration and crew management game, Galactic Crew!

On this week's LAN Party (Thursday, 5:30 PM Pacific, Twitch, YouTube), it's board game night, and we'll be playing Sentinels of the Multiverse!

Finally, this coming weekend (Saturday, 7:00 AM Pacific, Twitch, YouTube), we'll be syncing up with the developers of EVE: Valkyrie - Warzone to play some multiplayer and talk about not just this game but the larger EVE universe.

Friends, with the sheer and amazing deluge of space games out recently, I'm making a temporary change around here.

Good call. If you're not having fun, what's the point?

Yeah, it's a bad hobby when it feels like work.

You're allowed to take a break, Veloxi. You're even allowed to take one without feeling bad about it. These are games, and they're supposed to be fun, even when you're being journalistic about it.

Enjoy your break.

Hey folks, we did a stream this morning of EVE: Valkyrie - Warzone with its lead developer, and OMG it's likely one of the most fun streams we've ever had. SUCH a good time.

Also, thanks for the support y'all, means the world to me.

Welcome to another week of spacey gaming my friends! As I said last week, I'm gonna spend the next several weeks playing catchup with all the new releases, so this week we have a cornucopia of varied videos. Today we have new videos of Heat Signature and Space Rangers HD, and later in the week we'll start Stable Orbit and finish up finish up Ancient Frontier! Yay!

This week on the Podcast (Tuesday, 5:30 PM Pacific, Twitch, YouTube), we'll be talking to the developer of the space trading extravaganza, Interstellar Transport Company!

On Thursday's LAN Party (Thursday, 5:30 PM Pacific, Twitch, YouTube), we'll be returning to the fantastical Space Beast Terror Fright.

Thanks for being awesome y'all!

Hey folks, welcome to another week of spacey gaming! This week will be a hodge podge of videos as I continue my quest to catch up with all the releases of late, and we begin this week with some previews. Today we have NIGHTSTAR: Rogue Wings, an Unreal-driven shooter thing that's really fun. Tomorrow will be Space Wrangler, followed by I've no idea what yet since I've yet to record it. Probably some Destination Ares and maybe more Stable Orbit.

On the Podcast this week (Tuesday, 5:30 PM Pacific, Twitch, YouTube), we'll be talking to the developer of the spacey buildy shootey game, Cosmoteer!

This week on the LAN Party (Thursday, 5:30 PM Pacific, Twitch, YouTube), we'll be trying out the multiplayer in Warhammer 40,000: Space Wolf!

Thanks y'all!

Welcome to another week of spacey gaming my friends! It's another week of catch-up my friends! Today's video is my latest attempt at station-building in Stable Orbit, plus I have videos coming up this week of Morphite, Starpoint Gemini Warlords, Space Rangers HD and Destination Ares!

On this week's podcast (Tuesday, 5:30 PM Pacific, Twitch, YouTube), we'll be talking to the developer of the Nightstar series of action flight combat games.

On Thursday's LAN Party (Thursday, 5:30 PM Pacific, Twitch, YouTube), we'll be returning to Pandora in Borderlands 2 for some co-op shenanigans!

Thanks y'all!

Welcome to another week of spacey gaming my friends! This is the last week of playing catch-up before returning to a more stable game-of-the-week format next week, so this week we'll have some videos of Stable Orbit, Space Rangers HD, Dominari and Destination Ares! The first video is of Stable Orbit, in which my station survives for the ENTIRE EPISODE.

For this week's Podcast (Tuesday, 6:00 AM Pacific, Twitch, YouTube), we'll be talking to the developer of the amazingly fun Helium Rain!

For this week's LAN Party (Thursday, 5:30 PM Pacific, Twitch, YouTube), we'll be be giving the Werewolf/Mafia-inspired online 3D board game, Throne of Lies!

Finally, this Sunday is our next Monthly MMO Meetup (Sunday, 9:00 AM Pacific, Twitch, YouTube), we'll be playing Star Wars Galaxies with the Legends mod, since it includes spaceshippy Jump to Lightspeed content!

Thanks for being awesome y'all!

This is pretty much my first time playing it and very much enjoying it, though the spaceship controls really need some work.

I put far too many hours into that game. I remember even taking a vacation the week the Jump to Lightspeed expansion came out and finished all of its content and had the best ship. It's been so long I cannot remember what the ships controlled like, but I vaguely remember everyone being impressed by it because at the time an MMO having real time space combat was a big deal.

As Jumpgate had been out for half a decade at that point, I was so mad about this at the time.

"OMG MMO SPACESHIPS THIS IS SO NEW"

"But guys...Jumpgate..."

"SO NEW..."

"Sigh..."

Is it good yet? Cause I kept hearing about how it wasn't, but people keep mentioning how it's Mount & Blade in space.

I already own it, but had written it off long ago.

I thought it was good when it first but early access, so YMMV.

OMG! Apparently there are all kinds of enhanced textures, shaders, UI, sounds and music you can add to SWG!

This game is still alive?? I rage quit after the NGE since I had literally months before that unlocked my flipping force sensitive slot. I'm still a little bitter...

All fan driven at this point the official servers have long since been dead but people have reversed engineered the servers. I believe SWGEmu is if you want more of the original couple of the years before they really messed with the game systems. SWGLegends is after and has the Jump to Lightspeed content working. My above photo is from SWGLegends that Veloxi linked to about.

Was surprised that the game supported my ultrawide seemingly out of the box before I added in the enhancements.

So there are 2 different emulations?

Yup:

SWGEMU - http://www.swgemu.com/forums/index.php
SWG Legends - https://swglegends.com/

We're using Legends because spaceships, though I've played both and they're fine.

Unlike other fan-emulated MMORPGs, this one you need actual SWG installation media to use.

I could never play legends, but the other one sounds cool. I'm worried the game won't hold up to my nostalgia though.

Hey friends, welcome back to another fun week of spacey gaming! This week we finally return to a game-of-the-week format with the really fun, challenging and downright brutal Battlevoid: Sector Siege. I'll also have another vid of Space Rangers HD up later this week (ran out of time over the weekend).

On the Podcast this week (Tuesday, 5:30 PM Pacific, Twitch, YouTube), we'll be talking to the developer to the space adventure game, Daath Origins!

On this week's LAN Party (Thursday, 5:30 PM Pacific, Twitch, YouTube), we'll try out the co-op campaign in the top-down gorefest, Geneshift!

Thanks for being awesome y'all!

Holy crap, Geneshift looks so much like GTA1.

I believe GTA 1/2 were their big inspirations, which is why I bought it, as those are my favorite GTAs. Really does play like it too.

FYI: Chris turns off the bloom about 5 mins in because it was set super high.

The above video is Arcen showing off many of the ships in AI War 2 (currently in alpha). I'm curious what people think and will spoiler my thoughts below.

Spoiler:

Their ships look awful. Their starbases look even worse. It looks like a visual word salad of random stuff shoved together, as if the guiding principle was "how can we make stuff spin?" or "how many lights can we shove in?" as opposed to having some sort of cohesive plan. I realize Arcen is basically down to two employees and a contractor, but I feel like they could've gotten way better looking stuff if they had borrowed good ideas instead of coming up with a whole ton of random stuff.

I have the game installed, maybe it'll look better in action and not all cluttered together.
