I'm not sure how I missed this earlier, but a cop dramedy starring Will Smith is coming to Netflix. The twist - it's set in a magical LA with faeries, elves, orcs, etc. Reminds me a lot of Shadowrun.

I have had my eye on this for a while, and it looks amazing.

I didn't realize this was more than just a cop movie. That is awesome!!!

That looks freaking outstanding. That, right there, is a brilliant trailer.

Oh, damn, damn, damn. That looks effin fantastic. Can't wait.

I think I mentioned this in a previous conversation, but if it looks like fantasy Training Day, that's because this is also directed by David Ayer. Just amazing that they are playing this perfectly straight and even have the definitive gritty, uncomfortable cop duo director helming it.

I know I speak for a ton of genre fans when I say how frustrating it was for decades of TV and film to only do certain genres with tons of camp.

Spielberg:

HBO documentary movie about Steven Spielberg. Runs about three hours so be warned, but it's a very interesting insight into him and his impact on cinema.

Turns out Star Trek Discovery is also showing on Netflix (here in Mexico, of all places). This is my first non-movie ST content. I've seen the JJ movies, which I think are OK. And then that old Star Trek movie about time travel and whales (that's just weird to type).

The first 3 episodes where amazing. I always figured ST as a monster-of-the-week kind of show. Can't wait for episode 4 to unlock and keep watching.

Also, I had read somewhere the opening sequence was beautiful. It really, really is.

The Blacklist:

Why are they turning it into a buddy comedy? While it still has moments, it feels wrong.

Spielberg was great if at times a bit harsh since his flops are only flops because they didn't make a billion dollars. I am not going to apologize for liking 1941, Munich and A.I. (which gets better the more you see it).
And OMG what a walk back in time when seeing the clips of Close Encounters and the brachyosaur (sp?) in Jurassic Park.
It also showed a lot of his earlier TV work that was so creative and inventive.

Anybody watching Better Things on FX? I watched a couple of episodes last year, but it got lost in all the other TV. I thought it was a pretty cool show, and really smart and had strong feminist themes.

It's still all that, but I've watched thee episodes this season, and it feels like it is hitting on another level now. Portions of each of the episodes have some really nice meditative elements where Pamela Adlon pulls off telling us more than if there was dialogue. Kind of hard to explain, but it's something I'm really loving about the show, and I don't remember the same thing from last season.

The Mayor pilot was pretty good...

Gotham:

Alexander Siddig is hypnotic as Ra's al Ghul and that somehow makes his time on Game of Thrones feel like an even bigger waste.

BET Hip Hop Awards was pretty good. More acts than awards which I liked. Most people if they heard of it might have because of Green M&M freestyle dis of donald. I would have missed it if I had seen so many people talking about it.

Mr. Mercedes was a great little mini series. Loved the way the intro changed with the state of the main character.

Lucifer new season had a good start. Still follows the Castle, Elementary, Sherlock, buddy cop formula but with a bit of magic.

Once Upon a Time had a terrible start. They seem to be doing the same thing over with different characters playing different parts.

Seal Team was better than I thought it was going to be, not as good as Six but pretty good. A immortal vampire leads a seal team for America. This is basically a toned down version of Six where the good guys don't ever do bad things like rape the people they should be protecting or killing people just because. That isn't a negative.

Still liking The Deuce. The show is kind of odd because it doesn't seem to have a main point. More like a day in the life of few characters. Good show I'm just not sure if anything will happen.

Z Nation continues to be great. I was conflicted on the first episode of the new season. They sexed up the main character needlessly which I thought was. On the other god damn was she hot. My eyes almost melted. Show still is super wacky with zombie balls, aliens, and crazy people like the type you would find in a Dead Rising game.

Legends of Tomorrow is still a fun show. Arrow kind of boring and a big letdown from the cliffhanger of the last season. I guess how many people died from the island blowing up. The Flash was better but hasn't got the magic yet. Supergirl was the best of bunch but ratings are way down. hmmm maybe Legends was the best of the bunch.

Supergirl was great, Flash was good, Legends was funny. Still need to watch Arrow this weekend.

Mindhunter is another Netflix gem. Just came out. I've seen three episodes so far and I hope they make a ton. I'm not sure what the longevity is, since it's based on a true story. It might even steal the thunder of Stranger Things releasing this month.

Ended up fast forwarding through the first episode, couldn't really get into it.

And three episodes into season 2, and I can say that The Exorcist back in full form. It may be better than season one.

The season starts with our trusty exorcists on the run in the midwest, where Sheriff is not too happy about the exorcism they are performing on his wife. We also get a look at where they will end up, a home for foster children run by a too good to be true foster parent played by John Cho.

We also get a look at the conspiracy of possession taking place in the Vatican, as the war is now on many fronts. Not sure I like wasting time on a larger church conspiracy, but maybe this helps prevent the actual cases from getting too mundane and helps raise the stakes.

It make me wish that a similar reboot, Damien, had been given a shot at a second season. Now that show had some Satanic conspiracy to chew on. Damien had issues, but it really got better as the season went along. Unfortunately if a show on A&E doesn't hit quick, it won't find an audience.

Crazy Ex-Girlfriend's third season is off to an AMAZING start. The big songs of the episode were fantastic, and the dialogue and relationships are just maturing with age. Fantastic start.

Supernatural's thirteenth (!!) season is also off to a great start, but wow is it sad. These poor guys.

SEAL Team is growing on us.

This is awesome. The dog that plays their tactical dog, Cerberus, has her own IMDB page and maybe the coolest name ever: Dita The Hair Missile

No kidding. I am constantly disappointed when they switch from one of the story lines to one of the other ones, because they are all good. It's a nice problem to have.

Yeah The Exorcist has been great! Looking forward to the rest of the season. I love the theme music they play at the end.

I'm still loving the new Star Trek

Inhumans continues to be a big pile of sh*t. It's a horrible, horrible show.

Watched the second-season premiere of Dirk Gently. It's ridiculous and I love it.

I'm amazed at how this show can still feel fresh and keep the stakes high after so many years.

Episode 5: The Train Problem of The Good Place was amazing.

Yeah it was. It may have been the best episode of the show.

Whole heartedly agree! Ted Danson deserves an Emmy for this show.

Don't try the mystery sauce!

Agreed, it's so great.

Yes, yes, yes! The Good Place , such a good show!

If given the choice, would you choose to let 5 network TV shows get cancelled or let the Good Place get another season?

Do you realize how easy a yes that would be? For example.

In no particular order, cancel Any and all CSI type shows that may still be around, including NCIS, Young Sheldon, Seal Team, Hawaii 5-0 (yes that's still around), All Bachelor, or Bachelorette type shows, (How is this still a thing!), Big Brother, Inhumans, Once Upon A Time (let it die already), Law and Order: SVU (Is this still airing? MY GOD!), Grey's Anatomy, Scandolous, Criminal Minds, MacGyver, Family Guy, Simpsons.

There are so many! Cancel any or all of them I don't care. The Good Place deserves another season, over any of those and I have yet to see all of the current season yet. LOL

My wife watches more than half those.
