NFL 2017 Week 6 Thread

Certis taking on that defender is commendable. Stupid, but commendable.

I think this is why he got Dee to moderate the D&D forum.

Yeah, that made me flinch. Not as much as an earlier play where a Panther grabbed his throwing arm to pull him down and didn't get called for unnecessary roughness.

Sincere question, do other folks feel like the refs call their team for all the biggest bullsh*t? I feel like the Eagles are fighting the refs as much as themselves in any notable game (the one against the Cardinals had almost no fouls compared to every other game we've had this year). I like to try and think of myself as fair. For example, being called for offsides at the kick. Eagles have a lot of rookie players this year so while I'd like to see the replay, I wouldn't be surprised if it was legit. But given that Blount was called for unnecessary roughness when the other guy wouldn't let go of his helmet? Yeah, please refs, please be fair and call a very intentional grab of the quarterback's throwing arm as the same or something.

Spoiler:

And this is where someone schools me and says it wouldn't count as such.

This game is tense for me right now.

Trying to discern if the refs are for/against your team or simply somewhat incompetent is a game I no longer try and play.

Cam Newton can be egregiously hit and doesn't get a flag, but if someone looked at Peyton Manning the wrong way he could whine his way to a flag.

It is what it is. Penalties suck, but most of the time both sides are usually getting burnt by em and you maaaaaaay have a little bias going on.

Oh, and Romo is annoying me tonight. Lots of blather.

That's the thing. I can't even tell what officially counts as pass interference because our would-be interception counted as pass interference and yet I saw Panthers on top of our Eagles (I should probably stop saying "our" and "we", firstly because I'm not part of the team and also because all of us have different favorites) in ways that were far worse and got no flag.

I don't want to be someone that ignores when our team is obviously making penalties, but there's an awful lot of inconsistency on the field. Still, I mostly find myself trying to calm my Dad down. He shouts at the Refs a lot.

Regardless, I have to give Smallwood a bit more slack as both Barner and Clement made their own mistakes today. But Eagles are 5-1, I'm excited, and my brother shouted the best thing when Cam Newton got knocked down during one of his attempted runs: "Kryptonite is GREEN!"

f*ck yeah it is. I'm happy.

CBS annoyed me. I don't know who runs their cameras, but there were a lot of penalty calls I wanted a replay on and they didn't show, so I couldn't even be certain if it was a fair call or not. There was also the one kick that Panthers caught where the camera was zooming over the field, which is great if you want to convey excitement, but is awful if you're trying to figure out where on the field the players are.

CBS is officially awful. Even more so than the fact that they keep paying Chuck Lorre to make regressive television.

Nice article on what a bad job Reese has done with the Giants over the years

A lot of these articles usually trash a GM based on draft hindsight, but I think a good case can indeed be made to question Reese's performance.

I'll never understand throwing a 10th overall pick on Ereck Flowers, who would rate as the top tackle in basically no other draft in the decade.

I never got them letting Prince Amukamara walk. Yeah he's glass but cornerbacks that can cover at all are hard to find. He's worth having on the roster.

Amukamara is probably the only time in recent years that the Giants have picked someone I really like. They really do feel like the epitome of a team that does heavily needs-based drafting, and pulls in a lot of marginal talent instead of value.

Eli Apple just got benched, looks like another top-15 G-men draft pick that isn't the talent that the draft slot should entail.

The refs were brutal last night. Really the Panthers were so perfect they had one penalty for one yard??

Refs missed PI’s, Defensive Holdings, one blatant face mask. That being said the Eagles still won and if they had lost it would have still been largely their fault. The roughing the passer on 3rd Down was a stupid boneheaded play that extended that drive.

Do you mean the one on the Panthers' delay of game? Considering those guys were already up in Cam's grill by time the whistle blew I can't entirely blame the players. Still, it sucked, and aside from those two both teams seemed to stop at the whistle blow so...

Yes..

To clarify.. I generally had no issue with the penalties called against the Eagles.. my biggest gripe was the Ref's missing all the penalties against the Panthers.. I mean seriously 1 penalty for 1 yard?

Apparently last year the same ref crew did the Eagles and Lions game and it was a similar disparity. Eagles ended up with over 120 yards in penalties to the 1 penalty for 18 yards the Lions had.

1000% difference is kinda an eyebrow raise.

It made PFT

Not to Female Doggo at your Female Doggoing, Guru and ccesarano, but Carolina had been flagged 24 times in five games coming into last night, and 11 of those were against the Lions. The Eagles game was the third time this season (and third time in four games) in which the Panthers had been penalized just once. Seriously, go look it up, and stop complaining because your guys can't hear the whistle and decide to tee off on Cam when he's just standing there. Thank god he's getting flags now, 'cause that bailed them out.

Anyway, congrats to your Eagles. You still have Certis as your QB (who actually seems to be getting better and better each year), but Fletcher Cox was a monster last night, and your team overall looks pretty stout. Oh, sure, you might be throwing batteries at them by Thanksgiving, but to pull out a road game on a Thursday ... my hats off to ya. Hope to see you in the playoffs. I'm sure the Eagles will be there.

As for the Panthers, I'm not gutted by this one. To lose by 5 when giving up 14 points because of two unlucky bounces deep in your own territory ... meh, that's football. The Eagles were pretty good last night -- better than the Panthers, anyway.

Meanwhile, I'm worried about Kuechly. Word from BOA is that he's quote-quote fine, whatever the hell that means when you suffer a brain injury. I hope that's true. I also hope he starts thinking about retirement before he cripples himself permanently.

That's amazing. I guess the writing was on the wall when he started getting pulled for sub packages.

He's never quite gotten back to 100% since shredding his knee, and he hasn't gotten back to even where he was after that since the season-ending Achilles tear last year.

PFF still had him graded among the top linebackers with an 85.4 grade last season before the injury, but as one of the worst with a 45 grade in 2017.

I wonder if this is clearing the path for Reuben Foster to play inside.

According to this Yahoo! Sports round-up, Philly sports analysts weren't the only ones to commentate on the Refs. It seems Morelli and his team aren't so hat in general, and while it starts out specifying games involving the Eagles, it also jumps into other games such as a 2014 game between Detroit and Dallas that cost the Lions the win.

Still, I feel better to have won and be questioning the refs, because if we lost I'd feel like I was making excuses.

I had no issue with the calls against the Eagles.. they were all fair.. but no way did Carolina play that clean a game.. I saw several holds go unflagged.. not to mention a blatant text book PI call that was ignored. Looks like the past 4 games the Eagles have played with that ref crew the penalties were 40 to 8 in favor of the opponent so I think this has nothing to do with the Panthers rather this particular crew and their feelings towards the Eagles.

I think that particular crew feels that the Panthers are pretty good at disguising their holds!

Didn't seem to matter much. Your D-line owned our O-line pretty much all night. Y'all weren't doing anything fancy - just coming off the ball and pushing our guys right back into Cam's lap.

Niners sit down Hoyer, bring in rookie C.J. Beat Hard.

Maybe Kevin Hogan isn't the answer in Cleveland.

Y'know, Legion, if the Jags win today, the NFL will have serious discussions about relegating the Rams to Conference USA.

As someone who at least very vaguely follows the University of Iowa in college football, I can imagine no way this goes well. Even hardcore Iowa fans were shocked he got drafted that high.

Yes, he is, it's just that the question is, "Who is yet another sh*tty Cleveland QB?"

BEAT HARD 2 MINUTE DRILLS THE NINERS TO A TOUCHDOWN

THE NEW ERA BEGINS

Kapernick time.

This is the only positive thing I can muster .

17 unanswered points in the the Beat Hard era! Tie game!

Sad for the Packers and Aaron Rodgers. Now to build up Brett Hundley's trade value for the offseason...

It's only one game, but he hasn't exactly been building up that value so far.

The Atlanta Falcons led the Miami Dolphins 17-0.

And lost 20-17.

#28-3

Beat Hard rifles a 45 yard TD on the move.

That missed FG earlier looming large, it's the difference in the game right now as the Niners are down by 2.
