Red Dead Redemption 2 Catch-All

This right here. Publishers' tolerance for unfinished games is usually higher than mine, so when they're cool with giving the game more time in the oven, it's got to be a good thing.

I'd be interested to know what exactly needs fixing at this late stage. I say 'late' because - until yesterday -this game was due in 4 months or so. It's now been pushed back one year.

Let's hope that this extra work frees us from the dreaded Day One patch.

Sometimes announced release dates are as much marketing and strategy as they are reflective of the actual state of development.

Werd. I'll play it when it's out. Until then, whatever, nothing to angst over.

Yeah, its not like we are starving for games. My playlist is insane right now, they can take as long as they need.

New something next Thursday, per Rockstar's Twitter account!

Hopefully something showing gameplay, but the subreddit seems to be guessing a story trailer.

Tomorrow, 11am Eastern! Still don't know what it will be, but I'm excited!

New trailer is up!

Spoiler:

Dutch is a character in it, so this is definitely a prequel. The protagonist appears to be a member of his gang.

Still says Spring 2018, so hopefully there won't be another delay.

So playing a bad guy dickhead instead of a reformed bad guy dickhead.

Yeah, I'm not wild about this part, but it's not going to keep me from buying it day one. I might go replay RDR1 now.

Jeeze, people, provide a link.

Character shadowing isn't great.

Yeah I'm definitely not crazy about the new player character. I feel like Rockstar tries to make their anti-heroes sympathetic, or at least entertaining, but there's nothing appealing about the guy in that trailer.

You know, when I think about it, given what you do in those games, playing the bad guy, bad guy makes sense. It'd be best to make the NPCs your sympathetic characters. They might have you play as several characters like in GTA5. I'm definitely in wait and see mode on it because I'm burned out of the Rock Star formula. I maybe made it 1/3 of the way through GTA5 and dropped it. I just didn't like most of the characters.

I think it's not even that he's a dickhead, it's that he's a humourless, unlikable dickhead. "Dutch" shows up for all of two seconds and I'd rather play as him.

I'm likewise not too sanguine about this being a prequel about the Dutch gang. RDR had a story that very strongly evoked a great Revisionist Western (in no small part because it took a lot of beats from a great Revisionist Western, The Wild Bunch specifically, but whatever, that's very much Rockstar's style), but the prequel set up seems less fertile ground for the details and thematics that made the first on great.

It'd have to be a prequel since the last game was about the literal end of the Old West.

Well, but it could have been unrelated to RDR, which was unrelated to its predecessor, like most of the GTAs. I wouldn't call it a prequel in that case, regardless of the timeframe.

I'm totally okay playing an unrepentant asshole, but I'm sure he'll be more nuanced than that. I'd honestly like to play a character that isn't as goody two-shoes as Marston was. I'd like someone a quite a bit more rough around the edges.

I think this is going to be just one of many characters. If they don't use the switch-character mechanic from GTA5 that would be a big missed opportunity.

I think I am just tired of the Rock Star formula. I will probably get this day one as well and probably want to go off the rails ASAP. I think I just want Bethesda to do a western at this point. That or some sort of Jeremiah Johnson mountain man simulator.

There could not possibly be more agreement coming from me right now. That would be AMAZING!

That's funny. I initially bounced off of RDR because I thought it was going to be Skryim meets the Old West. I found the open world pretty, but also lifeless and empty.

It wasn't until much later when I started hitting the story missions and fast travelling that I was able to finish the game.

Wake me when a PC version is announced.

It is inevitable that it will happen. They made so much money off of GTA5 on PC that they
be crazy not to.

And in that sleep of death, what dreams may come?

I would also think they are using the same engine as GTA 5 so I would suspect porting would be easier.

Personally I am a bit disappointed they seem to doing the prequel angle. I think the "wild west" is big enough to just have a whole new story.

I dunno. I don't think a PC version is certain, though I'd love it.

There was never an RDR1 PC version. They keep porting LA Noire to just about everything, but skipping the gold mine that would be a PC port of RDR1. I hold out hope an "HD" RDR1 XB1/PS4/PC port will be a marketing thing.

There's not a PC port of RDR because the development hell they went through left the inner workings of the game so messy they would have to practically rebuild the whole thing to get it done. Every other primary Rockstar game eventually got a PC release. RDR 2 will as well.

Absolutely cannot wait for this, in on day one without a doubt. Not playing John Marsten is kind of disappointing, but oh well. I just really like the voice actor who plays him and think he does a terrific job. Hopefully he’ll have a major role in the sequel. It would be interesting to see what John was like during his prime as a cold blooded killer.

I never really got the chance to play Red Dead Redemption so I'm really looking forward to this.
