Agents of MAYHEM (Saints Row 5? Maybe!) Catch All

This whole thing makes me sad. I love the game and this means less games like this will be made.

I didn't like the Saint's Row games as much as this because they weren't as cartoony. I mean, they were cartoonish and ridiculous, but wrong aesthetic. Anyway, I has a sad.

This is just one person's opinion, but it reeks of an attempt to blend Overwatch with Saints Row. The end result is more like Challenge of the Superfriends on steroids with profanity in an open world setting. And for some reason the game just seems to lack personality.

I wanted to like AoM. I tried really hard to like it. I don't hate it. It's just very blah to me.

I've always felt that the design of Agents of MAYHEM ripped a page out of Insomniac games' book from their game Fuse. Volition tried mixing a more efficient method of changing between characters than in Fuse, with a bit of throwback to the aesthetics of Fuse's original concept: Overstrike:

But with even more over-the-top characters. And Profanity.

EDITED for clarity.

I'm only talking about the aesthetic.

The gameplay to me is like a poorly done 3D shoot-em-up.

Huh, that's a good reference. Unfortunately no one played Fuse, much like this!

No that doesn't make me happy even though I put an explanation point...

It's a sp game that allows you to switch to other characters and utilize their powers so that the individual player functions a bit like a mp group. In that way, the Overwatch reference is apt. Really, Overwatch is stupid popular so it's going to keep getting mentioned all over the place, even if it wasn't a direct inspiration.

There was at least one person who did... I thought Fuse was fantastic and sadly overlooked.

Yeah I guess this would be a personal gaming bias personal to me only. I love a lot of games but really dislike and avoid playing multiplayer. Single and multi feel like radically different experiences/different kinds of game to me. But I understand what you mean.

Thank goodness astronomers got tired of those stupid jokes and changed the planet's name in 2620.

What did they change it to?

I was letting you finish the bit, dude.

In that case, thank you.

Well, if you just can't get enough MAYHEM, and you're wondering how to satisfy that jonesin' since it looks highly unlikely any more MAYHEM will be made available via video game delivery vector... you could back the Kickstarter for the new board game version which is a thing apparently?

Sadly I don't want any more Mayhem. I just want more Saints Row.

AMEN, BROTHA’!

I loved the game. It was stupid and I agreed with all of the criticism, but I don't care. I had a blast with it and I may be in love with Daisy.

Just realized I can drop these agents into XCOM2. So this is going to happen:
Braddock: Grenadier (mix of demolitions/heavy gunner) or Ranger (emphasis on melee)
Daisy: Grenadier - Heavy gunner only
Fortune: Specialist Combat Hacker
Gat: Sharpshooter Gunslinger
Hardtack: Grenadier - Demolitions only
Hollywood: Specialist battle medic
Joule: Specialist combat hacker
Kingpin: Specialist Battle Medic
Lazarus: Specialist Battle Medic
Oni: Sharpshooter Gunslinger
Rama: Sharpshooter Sniper
Red Card: Ranger - Assault, emphasis on shotgun (run and gun, untouchable, implacable)
Scherezade: Ranger - Assault, emphasis on melee (blademaster, bladestorm, reaper)
Safeword: Specialist Combat Hacker
Yeti: Grenadier or Ranger who carries a lot of frost grenades/bombs

If you have any recommendations to change this let me know.

I picked Agents of Mayhem up yesterday when it was on sale for $6. I really liked the Saint's Row games but the description and reviews put me off of buying this.

Now that I've spent 45 minutes or so with it, I feel like I have rarely ever encountered a game so alienating and misconceived.

The default camera is nausea inducing. The vulgarity is pointless, unfunny and audience limiting (I can't play with my kids around and I can't let my kids play it). The three primary characters are unappealing. The gameplay systems (inventory and character progression) seem obscure and un-fun. (Protip: when I level up a character, I should be torn because all the options sound interesting, not disenchanted because they all sound pointless and dull.)

This is one of those weird cases where I really don't understand who this game is for or how the game design choices got through the editorial process.

To be fair though thats true of Saints row as well.

Why didn't they release FUSE on PC? It reminds me of The Division but would have beaten that game to market by a few years. It looks pretty good! I guess the party AI is bad?

edit: and on topic I need to get back to Agents of Mayhem. I had enjoyed my 20 or so hours with it and some of those other agents I have yet to unlock look pretty awesome. (Joule for sure)

I'm in the same boat. I really enjoyed it when I got it, but I keep getting distracted by new shinies.

I have pretty much the exact opposite opinions about the game that polq37 expressed.

But hey, what can I say, some people like Souls games. I'm never gonna understand that.
