Guild Wars 2 Catch All

No, you won't - you *can't* - miss out on XP. Thing is, the game scales you to the level of the areas you play in. You can skip ahead as much as you can handle, gear-wise - maybe 3-4 levels with good gear - or you can hang around an area to be a completionist. And if you just play your racial areas, that will get you into the 30's or so, then you can branch out and do higher level stuff in various places. There is *way* more content than you could cover leveling one character to 80 - probably 4x to 6x more, or so. I've filled my character slots and still seen only about 2/3 of the overall map, and never done a fractal, pvp, or wvw. And I'm happy with the game.

Since you don't understand so much, play it to learn how to play your class. That's always a good first goal. Once you are comfortable with that, you'll find that there are things you want/need to do to get more traits, better gear, more resources... But the fundamental thing is to be able to play your class the way you enjoy it.

Later on, you'll go back and find getting hero points as a level 40 that you skipped in the level 10 area does actually have some challenge to it, due to the level scaling. And maybe you'll enjoy exploring and finishing maps, or messing around in fractals, or resource gathering and crafting, or market speculation, or doing raids, or pvp/wvw, or running from event to event on maps. Whatever makes you happy. There's no rush to be any particular level or location by Friday, believe me.

Just enjoy the ride, the story, and the scenery. And the other nice players.

It's also another reason why i'll recommend the ZoS group.

They're constantly doing events and activities for all levels and are extremely helpful no matter your level of commitment.

You will need to hit a couple of the early masteries to advance in HoT (like gliding is the first one). I would recommend doing adventures for a spike of EXP to help out with those.

adventures are definitely the best way to get XP to fuel your masteries (though most of them require gliding/shroom)

they're also pretty fun =)

Just to be sure I’m not missing anything... What are adventures? Maybe I’ve been hitting them and don’t know it.

Edit - Oh, “Bugs in the Branches” and stuff like that. Yeah, fun! Didn’t realize they had a formal name.

I've noticed the home server is "full". Any ideas on if/when I could transfer to Guild server ?
Does this happen a lot ?

Unfortunately yes. It took me several weeks and logging in around 1 am PST to finally get transferred. The only thing it affects though is WVW - you will still be able to join the guild in PVE.

Adventures is just another name for the public quests that pop up.

Adventures are mini-games located throughout the first three HoT maps.

Ah... those were almost always turned off when i came to them. While they don't give mastery points themselves the public quests are more prevalent and very good xp.

The adventures are each good for ~90k XP for 2-3 minutes of play once you get good at them. the first part of my daily routine is going through the 6 easiest ones.

I'm excited for PoF though I won't be able to play till Monday, and I still have huge chunks of LS3 to get through, so I might not jump into the content right away and just figure out all the new builds/specialisations first.

Again they're great if they're active when you're online during the same time they're up and going.

they're mostly just turned off by the meta event, outside of night time in Verdant they're rarely unavailable when I want to do them.

I think they can give mastery points, some of them, for higher levels of achievement?

If you get silver or gold you get mastery point.

I managed to play through the intro mission and check out the fancy services area that came with the deluxe edition but then got kicked out due to login server failure.

judging by posts on reddit, it seems to be an on/off issue since some people are able to play while others couldn't connect. it'll probably get worse as people get back from school/work and try to hop on.

the raptor felt a bit unwieldy to control but that might just be me needing to get used to it.

There is a sale on season 2 story content in the store.

What? I literally JUST bought season 2 yesterday. Well, bad idea I guess. Totally wasn't thinking about waiting until today to see what sales there would be.

I'm still on the original story content, think I'm getting close to finishing it up. I have a loooooong way to go until I get to PoF but you guys have fun in there

It took me 4 tries to get past the point to pick up my raptor mount. Servers are a bit shaky at the moment.

might be worth it to create a ticket with support, there's a chance they could refund the difference.

Yeah usually they will credit it back within a few days.

I read some people were seeing 50% off on LS2, but I only see 20%. I bought it anyway since I need mastery points.

What is the difference post-HOT to build a legendary? I went to the legendary master in Lion's Arch and for the Level 1 stuff there are 4 masteries you have to make it through. For the Level 2 stuff (stuff released during HoT) there are just some recipes? Thanks!

the masteries are related to the collection achievements for the precursors.

the last 4 legendaries instead use a recipe system for the precursors.

HoT legendaries are also a lot more expensive because they require more of the expensive materials (like mystic coins), not to mention full HoT masteries. Their one saving grace is they don't require full core game map completion like the Gen 1 legendaries, just map completion of the 4 HoT maps.

That all being said, crafting mats have tanked in price since the release of PoF, so might be a good time to start collecting.

Loving the new areas (what little I've seen of them), but I feel way behind on the storyline. Characters constantly allude to things that happened in HoT and LS 3. It's a bit annoying to a returning players and I wish Anet would go the way of WOW and make expansion stories feel more standalone.

Then again, maybe I'm just mad that the HoT maps feel undoable because of no players.

Yeah I have about half of the required mats from just playing HoT for a month before PoF launched. I just started fractals up last night again as well.

Holosmith is doing great damage but my gear is still the max I could get 2 years ago RIGHT when fractals launched so I'm having a heck of time soloing some of the PoF story missions. (Also the NPCs are junk). I finally finished one this weekend practically nekkid cause all my gear was broke!

Then again, maybe I'm just mad that the HoT maps feel undoable because of no players.

Like I said above they were pretty good before PoF launch. One thing for all the HoT zone adventures, people usually pick one "META" instance so they can collect enough people to get it done.

Yeah I know. Trying to get our old house on the market left me with a lot less time to play catch-up. If anyone knows of a good recap video for HoTs would love to watch it.

The story is pretty beatable solo. I did it with a classic engineer and it was challenging let me tell ya!

I think a lot of PoF references are from the living story also except for the Glint stuff.

The very end of HoT was annoying but only because up to that point i breezed through it.
