That giant anime boobs probably means I will pass on this one.. If it was a full on ARPG I might look past it to play but this looks more like a turn based timing RPG which isnt my thing at all.

I'm confused. Passing because of character designs is fine, but I'm not sure what you mean about the gameplay. This isn't turn based.

He's saying that if it were a full on ARPG where you controlled every action of your character then it would excite him. More like Bayonetta.

Instead, it's time based in the way you use powers and stuff. Like WoW.

Yeah, the combat is very MMO-like, cooldown management and such. Some people can't stand that style. I like it if it's done well.

Another good interview with Takahashi at Time.

In terms of a theme in Xenoblade Chronicles 2, there are all of these Titans, and their lifespan is about to end. The people living on these Titans now have to find a way to continue their lives, because the land they've lived on is about to die. So it's about these people's quest to find where to live.

Also, there are these lifeforms called Blades. They're not human, as the title indicates — the "Xeno" part of the title, which means they're not human. They're unique lifeforms, and there's this theme of how humans and Blades can coexist and learn to live with each other, and learn to not only coexist, but protect the world that they live in.

Some soundtrack samples.

Amazon's got preorders for this up for $48 right now. I'm tempted, but I don't feel confident enough to preorder this one.

“We completed the music production of Xenoblade Chronicles 2 today without any problems. Thanks to the help from numerous musicians and staff, we were able to give it our all until the very end. Thank you very much.”

Sounds like things really are wrapping up for XC2.

We'll see. Music production has always felt like something that could be done in parallel with the rest of development, so I wouldn't necessarily use it as a gauge of progress on the overall product. Still, that's great news and I definitely look forward to putting the OST in the music rotation at work once it's out.

Somehow I wasn't following this thread but I should be.

Loved the first game.

Gamescom gameplay presentation

IGN preview.

In the lower left, you’ll switch characters - something you’ll want to do often, as they take turns charging their individual attacks. In the upper right is a small “skill tree”-style menu that displays how the right combination of various attacks can flow to create bigger ones. Don’t expect to just tap the A button over and over to win battles here, especially against tougher enemies. Xenoblade’s combat is smart and strategic and really damn satisfying if you’re patient enough to maximize it. This is not a passive RPG battle system by any means.

Every video I see of the combat depresses me as I so enjoyed continually moving and positioning in the earlier games. This game looks staid and boring. Hopefully it's not.

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Might Be Switch's Next Great RPG - PAX 2017

The Switch already has a great RPG?

Zelda is a JRPG.

It's neither?

Way to take the bait

Dammit, I forgot I'm in a Nintendo thread, where it's 70% tangent arguments.

Of all the cliches of JRPGs, this one maybe bothers me the most, because it's the least accurate for most of the genre.

I was trolling shoptroll. "Zelda is a JRPG" is a well-worn and very, very tired argument.

You'll note I didn't respond to it. Thanks for jumping on that grenade Chaz

Hey now! Fixed the quote attribution.

Sorry about that.

Yes, but who really plays anything other than Square-Enix published RPGs?

Spoiler:

This is primarily a dig at the IGN writer who lacks the genre knowledge to know that cliche is bunk, and less at Square/Enix designs

You make me cry, shop. I sentence you to playing the most significant JRPG of the last decade: Dark Souls.

Did Dark Souls skip the JRPG thread because it deserved its own thread, or because it's not a JRPG? #HeadlineClickbait

Coming December 1st!

Pre-orders up on Best Buy.

Nothing on Amazon yet.

Will probably pre-order on Friday. I keep forgetting if Best Buy charges you immediately or holds off until release day. My gut feeling is immediate charge since I use PayPal through them and also get an e-mail from PayPal when doing a pre-order.

Interesting comparison shots from the E3 demo to the recent Direct footage. Mostly it's a tightening up of things, but Rex really stands out to me:

Part of me wants to preorder, and part of me wants to wait for impressions. I got burned pretty bad on the UI for XCX making it essentially unplayable for me..

Yeah, UI in these games can make them tough for some people. XCX needed most of that UI, but they gave plenty of options to turn off stuff which was incredibly smart/nice of them. Here we've got a more streamlined, but still large UI taking up lots of retail space. I've gotta believe it's so that you can still see stuff when in handheld mode, unlike XCX where it was tough to read anything when in offscreen.

I'm okay with the busy screen myself since I've put a fair amount of hours into MMOs. Sure, I much prefer what Zenimax did in Elder Scrolls Online by having as little as UI as possible, but these games are different beasts where you need to see cooldowns and status effects at a glance. Thankfully XC games aren't quite as hectic as something like Guild Wars 2 where the status stuff looks like random icon spam.

The problem with the XCX UI was the font size, which as far as I know, wasn't scalable. Because of the tiny font size, I couldn't read it on my 60" TV when sitting on my couch without squinting, and it was also too small to play on the gamepad. Not being able to read text in a text-heavy game makes it unplayable.

I'm hoping that they account for that in the new game, since that was one of the major complaints against XCX, but I'm not laying my money out until I hear for sure that it's fixed.
