NCAA college football 2017-18: Official thread

Fresno State only lost to Alabama 41-10.

I mean, Alabama beat USC 52-6 in their opener last year, so as far as I'm concerned, Fresno State > USC. At least Fresno's offense crossed the goal line.

Good thing she is as much a fan as I am!

Awwww. Congrats!

That's true love (and true fandom) right there.

Even better, you can bet (legally) all the cash you get for wedding on the game.

Congrats, Abu!

Congrats Abu. Many happy Nole years to you and your fiancé

Gameday at Louisville again next week, as expected. Hope we get similar results to last season.

Yesterday was a good day for both of my teams! Vols and Penn State. Woo!

Is it Sat yet?

So hyped for gameday

What happened to the wonderfully curated lists of games with a quick word on which ones would be good to watch? I literally don't visit ESPN.com or anything using this thread as my main source of knowing what's going on... lol

Didn't Enix usually do that on Thurs?

I may be a bit early...

That jerk? I think he forgot.

Oh, wait ...

Yeah, I think I forgot. I'm not sorry. I honestly haven't watched much college football this year -- just a little Ala-FSU in week one and some USC-Stanford last weekend. Work, home, etc. I got stuff to do!

But since y'all asked, here's the Week 3 schedule.

Looks like ... (scans the list) ... I picked a great Saturday to plant grass because there's not much good on. Looks like it's still preseason for most I-A schools.

The 3:30 CBS game is Tennessee-Florida. That's OK. The 8 p.m. ABC national game is Clemson-Louisville, and I'm really interested to see how Lamar Jackson does.

So, yeah. Tenn-Fla is a should watch and CLEM-LOU is a must watch. LSU-Miss State (7 p.m. ESPN) could be interesting because SEC but nothing could convince me to watch a game with all those cowbells. LESS COWBELL PLEASE.

Yay!!!! Thanks!

This Saturday, taking my 12-year-old to his first Michigan game at the Big House ever, and my own first Michigan game there as a regular ticket holder since 2004!

Hopefully the Air Force weird Flexbone offense, or whatever it is, won't pose TOO many problems for Michigan.

Depending on how big of a football person he is, watching flexbone teams live can be quite educational. You can see how the OL and the fullback move and get a good chance at seeing how the QB is reading the play on whether he tosses, keeps or hands it off, as well as how good the D is at staying home. Stuff you usually can't see when just watching a game on TV as the camera jerks around too much.

I'm sure Michigan will do a much better job handling them than Cal did a few years back in the Armed Forces Bowl. Once you get ahead and Air Force is forced to throw it usually the wheels come off.

So Carlbear, do you think your boys have it in them to knock off a reeling Ole Miss squad? I gotta make some picks, and I have no idea how this game shakes out.

I think we can. Not sure if the time (7:30 pacific) can affect it, but between that and the fact that they play Alabama next week, I'm hoping mentally Ole Miss won't be all there.

Even without that, its going to come down to our offense. Defensively I think we can hold our own against their offense. Unfortunately our not-so-good OL has never seen SEC sized defensive players. If we can give Bowers some time back there I think we'll be able to stay in the game and maybe pull off the upset.

Bottom line, if you're getting the points, take Cal. If not, well, that's probably a toss up.

Thanks for the insight! It's a straight pick 'em thing, so no spreads.

That's awesome! One of my favorite experiences growing up (in the 80s) is my dad taking me to Michigan football games in the fall. By high school, we had season tickets every year. Lots and lots of memories I wouldn't trade for the world.

Here's to hoping we get the Good Speight on Saturday; the one that is efficient without making bizarre mistakes at the worst possible times.

Gameday was fun. 3 of 4 picked Louisville.

Now the long wait for 8pm.

Got some corporate box passes for Wake today for free. That should kill a couple hours.

Holy crap Tenn-UF

Clemson's new QB looking good so far.

Go USC!

Um...Wow. Longhorns holding on through two fourth and shorts, one on the goal line. I honestly did not expect that.

I'm a bit less pessimistic on their chances after that.

Edit: Interception on the next play. Never mind!

Oh man, sorry Stele.

All I have to contribute here is that I live in Austin and I deeply crave a Longhorn loss. With 3rd Qtr ending 10-14 in USC's favor, I feel my schadenfreude sparking up rather pleasantly.

I fully expect them to lose. Their defense is the only thing keeping the game close. Offensively they've done less than nothing. That's not an exaggeration. Giving the ball away three times in the first half is a negative contribution.

I'd love it if they win, but UT hasn't had an offense for years now.

I think we're going to be friends, new person.

I think that attending the University of North Texas has jaded me against Texas football culture on the whole, so I savor watching renowned schools/teams lose as badly as we did.

I am a monster and I wear that badge with pride.

Nothing against you, Rad. That's my reaction pretty much every time Fed talks
