FUGL is an open-world flapping-simulator where you play a voxelized bird doing … something. The game description says “make your own adventure, with no time constraints or set goals,” which usually means the game developer learned just enough Unity to move a camera and called it a day. Whether that’s the case here or not, FUGL has a pretty and unique art style, and as Wander’s biggest fan , I don’t mind making my own fun in a beautiful world. Heck, that’s what life is all about, isn’t it?

The UNPRNNCBL game FUGL gets my nod for Game of the Week. What? It’s not like you seriously thought I was going to go with Divinity: Original Sin 2, did you?

As much as I want to defend Nintendo out of habit, I must confess being a bit apprehensive towards Metroid: Samus Returns, a remake of the GameBoy sequel Metroid II: Return of Samus. Y'know, just like last year's Another Metroid 2 Remake that got a cease and desist within 24-hours of its release.

It's not that I anticipate one being better than the other. I can already tell you that AM2R lacks in some of Nintendo's accessible polish. It was a remake by veteran fans for veteran fans. However, as much as I'll defend Other M, Yoshio Sakamoto has proven that his own co-creation is not safe in his own hands. Will Metroid: Samus Returns have an unnecessary addition like the concluding stealth segment in Zero Mission? Will they continue to try and add the worst personality to Samus in an effort to develop her?

I'm going to have faith, though. The game looks good, and while I doubt it'll have the creative set-dressing that AM2R had, Metroid: Samus Returns will be a welcome return to that good, old-fashioned traditional gameplay.

Do you love Dishonored 2 but just hate all that dang Chaos? Well, have I got an expansion for you. Dishonored: Death of the Outsider sets you on a mission to stop Chaos at the source, by eliminating the Outsider. You play as Billie Lurk, with a new suite of powers and gear. Displace has a twist on Blink/Far Reach in that you have to place a marker at the spot you want to warp to – which you can do well ahead of time and then snap back to on command. Also the Hook mines look fun, kinda like tethering people in Just Cause.

The needle in the PC haystack is Divinity: Original Sin II. A sequel to one of the best isometric RPGs of the decade? Slam dunk. I don’t even need to know what the new features are. If it were coming out on PS4, it would be my GOTW.

I'll be honest with you: As much as I want to check out Destiny 2, it's not the first "D2" on my list, or even the first D2 to follow a D1 that I really ought to have played by now. I'm only mostly certain that I once gave Diablo a shot. I totally played Dooms 1-3, though. I'm not a fake gamer, just a very slow one.

Anyway, flying-V with a knuckle-puck for the win this week. Quack, quack, quack.

Comments

Kingdom: New Lands is coming to Switch? Might just have to double dip there to support a quality indie title.

PC count back over 100. Cripes.

I'm in for Ys VIII whenever it goes on sale. I kinda hate to be like that, but Falcom shipped the localization to the highest bidder with the intention of having them do a simultaneous PC release. That means XSEED lost out on the localization because their PC stuff trails behind the console releases. NISA showed up with a boatload of money and snagged the localization. NISA's localization efforts haven't been great lately and I don't mean in terms of censorship. The voice work and text are generally quite bad imho and that's generally what I'm hearing about this release. So, yeah, waiting on sale. Sorry, Falcom. I wish you nothing but the best.

Hmmm...Divinity: Original Sin 2 or Parking Cop Simulator?

Hmmm...

From the Steam page:

Features:

  • Ability to Hand out Fines to Parking Violators
  • Busy City Life
  • Fascinating Parking Regulations
  • 20 Exciting Levels with Time-Limits!

Parking Regs are pretty fascinating.

Hmmm...

Friday is my birthday and I love Metroid. I anticipate a good day.

Ys 8 for me on vita.

Divinity: Original Sin II is this week? Oy

Ken Follet made a video game?

Whelp, that'll teach 'em not to trust briefcases full o' cash as a mark of quality work.
