NFL 2017 Week 1 Thread

I thought Gronk looked broken and worn down.. and it was game 1. Whatever it means it made me happy.

Well, the Chiefs had the luxury of taking one of the bet safeties in the game and just locking hm on Gronk all night. It was a great match-up that was going to, at best, make Gronk look ordinary.

Gotta wonder how the Chiefs D will look going forward without Berry.

Hogan is a legitimate deep threat and Cooks has plenty of speed, but Brady looked off on deeper passes last night. The Pats got stopped twice on 4th down and had a bunch of misfires, but that was mostly about the defense just losing Hill and Hunt.

I really thought in the first half the Patriots were going to annihilate the Chiefs, but they kept making mistakes.

I think the D is definitely worrisome but the O will be a growing pains issue. With Edelman, Mitchel, and Amendola (mid game) out the receivers left had a combined 1 year experience with Brady. Hogan was mostly a wide out last year so didn't have to deal with timing too much. Dorsett only had a few days to practice with the team so there is no way he is going to be any sort of factor for weeks.

Agree, the breakdown of the defense was probably the biggest surprise in this one. Hill and Hogan looked like they were running free through that defense. Although again, when your athletes are just that much better than the other team that's going to happen. We may be seeing this from the Chiefs all year long if Smith can continue to replicate that level of play.

Consider this, too. The Chiefs limited Kelce this week because it was such a poor match-up, just feeding him shovel passes instead. They will be giving teams fits.

This all hinges on Hunt and Hill being as legitimate as they appear, of course. So far, so good.

I'm kind of liking this writing off the Pats thing people are doing after the first game. Much better than 16-0 talk that was going around. Coast to respectable record, maybe get the bye once again, then wait for all the mediocre coaches in the league choke in the playoffs *cough Andy Reid cough*.

Yeah, hitting on all cylinders 4 months from now is way more important. And in the long run this may be a good wake up call for the Pats. I sure wouldn't want to play them next week....

Yeah, expecting any team to go 19-0 is kind of insane before the season starts. When they are 15-0, I can see it, but not really before then. The thing is, even if the Patriots look that bad the rest of the year, they will likely still finish 10-6, and win the division (unless 5 other losses all come in-division). They played really badly for them, they would have still won against a less impressive team. It's annoying how local radio is acting like it was a Patriots loss when it was really a great Chiefs win.

No one was writing off the Pats on the sports shows I watched and listened to this morning. Colin Cowherd laid out Belicheck's winning % by month, going from .600 in September to .900 in December. The Pats are far from done.

Now, the fun part of the morning takes was making fun of the arrogant Pat fans and that garish pregame celebration. They make Yankee fans look stoic.

If you hate Patriot Nation, this video is glorious.

Yeah, that is tough to cover. Patriots certainly didn't have the personnel to cover all 3.

Two of the other AFC East teams are overly tanking, and the other has Jay Cutler. I think it's safe to assume New England will make the playoffs.

This guy went from predicting the Pats at 16-0 recently to the Pats throwing away everything they've earned in the last 17 years because of a silly celebration. Forgive me if roll my eyes at this hyperbole. lol

Also, why is he come off like he's a robot reading a speech here? I've heard Cowherd a bit over the years and he usually doesn't sound this stiff and pre-prepared. Came off weird.

I have no idea. It's a mystery, like why a Pats fan would think taking a shot at a head coach that just embarrassed their team would come off looking good.

Bottom line we can all agree the Patriots and their fans are the worst.. literally the worst. Boston terrible as well. SAD

Will Smith > Markey Mark

They are, though, the worst team in the NFL right now.

Taking shots at opposing teams head coaches, players, fan bases... it's kind of an integral part of sports. Win or lose...

Edit: For example the posts above. lol

Yep. It's how and when you do it that affects how you come off. So we are just enjoying those salty tears for now.

Don't get mad at me because Wahlburgers suck

I'm devastated you feel that way. It's my birthday too.

At least Berry got paid first.

Dude's body just needs to let him have the kind of career he's capable of. A Pro Bowler in all 5 of his non-shortened seasons, and All Pro in 3 of those. If not for those interruptions, we'd probably be watching him work on his 8th Pro Bowl season in a row, every year of his career to date, and probably a 5th All-Pro in a row. That's a head-to-Canton kind of resume.

Yep. At least I still have my 97 OVR Berry in Madden!

Berry was the hammer on the second 4th and 1 the Chiefs stopped, moving along the line to find the hole and slamming it shut.

There is no replacing him. There is just figuring out other ways of getting stuff done.

Jayhawker wrote:

Milkman has a gently used Chris Conte he'd like to offer up.

It won't be Calvin Pryor though, because the Jags snatched him up with their primo waiver wire priority.

There are a number of reasons I'm glad the Bucs picked up T.J. Ward, one of which is it meant they weren't going to go for Pryor. So, uh, good on the Jags there.

The problem with calling Chris Conte "gently used" is he whiffs on so many tackles I'm pretty sure his official Ebay condition would be closer to "mint".

3 days in sole possession of last place should be good for the whole city.

I can't imagine why you wouldn't want a promising young centerfield safety like Pryor.

EA needs to patch that awful coverage.

F*** you, you f*****g Bucs fan m*****f***** ....

Kidding. We can be friends for 15 of the next 17 weeks. Weeks 8 and 16? You're dead to me. As dead as the Saints are this season. 0-and-16, amirite?

And speaking of 28-3, did y'all see this? At the risk of Enix-hausering myself because this popped a few weeks back:

Ezekiel Elliott wins an injunction, preventing his suspension for the near future (possibly all season).
