NCAA college football 2017-18: Official thread

Sorry to hear that DeAndre Francois's season is over, FSU peeps.

Just saw that half an hour ago. Sorry Abu.

It really sucks and our schedule is going to be brutal on any replacement. We didn't have much in the way of plan b at QB as our only backup with experience (11 passes) may not be the best.

Whelp, next man up- it's your turn. Good luck

Yeah that sucks. I hate to see anyone get hurt, especially for someone so talented. If it makes any consolation, my taunt was a few minutes before he got hurt. (Sorry about that.)

Haha #pac12AfterDark

ENGAGE!!

A&M is going to lose this game, aren't they? I am entertained!

VT survives

A&M did not.

SEC surrender cobras are the best

No lead is big enough for me to feel safe, but damn, this start is better than I could have possibly dreamed. We are dominating the trenches.

Well, Fed certainly knows his team. Sorry man.

About our game, up until Francois got hurt, I was actually ok with it. We had given Bama the ball in FSU territory on four separate possessions and were still sort of in the game. I figured that we held our own, especially on defense, and that there was a less than zero chance of getting another shot at them in January.

Now, well, probably zero. It will make for a very interesting season, that's for sure.

/New header for my favorite upset of the weekend. But why in the world is Maryland in the B1G?

Don't care. They made room for Louisville in the ACC. We're happy and so are all the other ACC teams.

Because they thought it was an upgrade from the ACC. Joke's on them!

In related Texas football news, here's another loss for the state: Baylor lost to Liberty, which went 6-5 a year ago (and the year before that) in the I-AA Sun Belt.

I'm not sure which one of those UT/A&M/Baylor losses was worse. They're all plenty embarrassing.

Sorry about Francois, Abu. Maybe the new kid will be OK.

Oh man, sorry Fed...

Has anyone actually heard from Fed since this went down? Is he okay? Should we send help, or maybe he's just not done breaking things yet.

Compared to the flood, this loss doesn't even register, but it was a stunning, unpardonable loss, as far as the coaches go. The fans, even people who've never played football like myself, could have coached the team to a victory. In no particular order:

Pull Mond and put Hubenak in at QB. He's a senior who has played before and can pass better than 15%. He can also wait until the play clock gets low to snap, which alone would have won the game. I was screaming for us to go back to the run. It wasn't about effectiveness, or keeping them honest and avoiding one-dimensionality: it was us vs the clock. I called that when we were still up by 20 or possibly more.

Speaking of single changes that would have won the game: Keep running the damn ball. If we had handed off for no gain every time we threw once the comeback started, we would have run out the clock in time to win. Period.

Chip that TE at the line. They abused us with that guy. I was screaming for this, too.

The coaches put on an amazing concert that had to come together just so in order to lose that game. It was almost masterful. Sumlin out, the sooner the better imho.

Saw A&M regent Facebook post circulating to fire Sumlin immediately

As far as we know, it's so we can sell the Big Ten Network to (the ever-diminishing numbers of) cable TV subscribers on the east coast.

As far as I'm concerned, Rutgers and Maryland are fine schools and programs but they aren't really Big Ten teams. I'm still not even really sure about Nebraska.

Penn State is fine because (1) they were a conference member when I was in school, and (2) they allowed that sweet hidden-11 Big Ten logo.

Also: Condolences, Fedaykin. O_O

Can't decide if this makes that regent a clown or a hero. I guess sometimes you need someone indiscreet to blurt out that the emperor has no clothes.

I think it's awesome. Nothing like firing a head coach in week one to dwindle the number of coaches interested in replacing him.

Plus, the fewer games Sumlin has to coach at A&M, the better his shot at a good gig after this season.

Guess Gumbie had a good night last night.

And GT needs a kicker.

As a UT fan, I'm thrilled that they found a way to win that game. However, I'm confused as to what it says about the team and the upcoming season.

Likewise! It is not an auspicious start to the season; however, TN is so wildly variable in their play it is hard to really predict anything.

I got two teams to root for, though. If Vols fail me, I still have Penn State.

In "day that ends in -y" news, the NCAA does something stupid.

NCAA won't allow University of Houston to distribute donations

NCAA rules, though, stand between donations and kids in need.

“They don’t want us sending all this nice gear to the top recruit in Houston," said Lauren Dubois, senior associate athletics director for UH. "But, obviously that is not our intention at all.”

Dubois said the program risks punishment if they give anything to potential recruits, their parents or youth leagues.

So, the university first offered everything to the Red Cross, Star of Hope and Hurricane Harvey relief. All had different needs.

The school is now asking legitimate charities to step in, take donations and give them away as those organizations see fit.

It is a challenge Sampson accepts even if he wishes rules made things easier.

“When you do something out of the goodness of your heart, when you have so many people around you helping, it’s not hard," he said.

EDIT: Waiver apparently granted yesterday, but KHOU didn't update story before it got spread around twitter this morning.

Lamar doing Lamar things.

Bring on Clemson.

Yeah! Hook 'em Horns! Take that San...jose...state. Meh.

Syracuse's former coach brings MTSU into the dome and beats them. Ouch.

So, if you don't know, I got engaged back on Mother's Day. We didn't want to get married in the Summer, and my fiancée wanted a cool weather wedding. She also didn't want to wait for Spring. So, we looked for FSU's bye week, and picked that.

Bought airfare, hotel, wedding in Vegas, the works.

Now we will spend our wedding night watching FSU vs Miami. At least we will be doing it in Vegas.

Good thing she is as much a fan as I am!

Go Dawgs! Loved the Dawgnation invading South Bend, with domers having to fight the crowd noise at home!

I assume Baker Mayfield did that because he'll never have to play Ohio State ever again. Nice to see he's got some Graeme Souness in him.

Also, everyone applaud Louisiana Tech for the funniest moment of the day.

Cal with an extremely unsatisfying win against FCS Weber State 33-20. Trailed 20-17 at the half. Positive takeaway was that we made the correct adjustments at halftime to shut them out the entire 2nd half, but our offense looked anemic. Maybe we were trying to play it vanilla given the opponent but that almost backfired on us. Now a ridiculous gauntlet of games starts for Cal. Ole Miss, USC, @Oregon, @Washington, WSU. 2-0 is great, but I'd like to end up better than 2-5 after this stretch.
