Guild Wars 2 Catch All

I've only run a few dungeons in the context of meta events, so, not very essential at all.

Never done one, outside of the storyline. There's plenty of game there without them.

How essential are running the dungeons as you level up? I just passed 30 so the first one opened up, but I'm not really into running stuff with PUGs unless I'm trying to farm something.

It's another way to farm exotic/ascended gear depending on if you boosted to 80 or not. If you boosted it's not needed, but a natural 80 can use the tokens from the dungeons at a vendor south side of Lions Arch.

There's also high level runes only available when completing a dungeon. Like I've been trying to run a level 30 dungeon whenever i can find folks able to go to pick up the Nightmare runes

I've got a couple of level 80s and have never run a dungeon. You should be fine.

I like running dungeons to collect tokens for armor, but you can have plenty of fun without ever stepping foot in one. You're just fine.

Ended up doing the Ascalon Dungeons (story) in a PUG on a whim and it was pretty cool. We wiped once but otherwise it was smooth sailing. A lot of stuff dropped so I had to do some inventory dancing near the end. It's probably time to invest in some actual bag space soon.

Are dungeons easier now if you're not level 80? I remember trying to run them a couple months after the game launched and being told that the wrong thing to do was bring a leveling character because you would be slowing down speed runs.

I'm not a GW2 vet, but dungeons have two modes now: story and exploration. Story I believe is easier and mostly for, well, the story. The explorable version opens up new wings and bosses and is used for farming.

I did the story mission with whatever random crap and skills I've been leveling with and it was fine.

I dont remember this for GW2. WildStar that was definitely the case.

It definitely happened in GW2, but only if you were doing exploration mode. People would almost always be fine with a levelling character doing the story mode of the dungeons.

With the LFG system, the prospective dungeon group will advertise itself as either speed clear or casual. Generally, you will see a lot more speed runs than not, but if you start your own LFG dungeon group for casual and allowing for people time to watch the cut scenes, you should be able to fill it pretty quickly. And yes, the dungeons were brutal on level when the game launched and have been somewhat toned down since then.

Be aware that dungeons have largely been abandoned for the time being by the developers, and Fractals are the 5 man end game content that is currently being supported. It would take to long to go into the differences but for all intents and purposes, fractals = dungeons, in that they are instanced group content.

creating your own group is always highly recommended for any instanced content(dungeons, fractals and raids) as it's not uncommon for people to kick you, even sometimes right at the end.

though that's a lot less likely in casual groups and story mode, it's usually farmers on speed runs that do that to sell your spot to someone else just before the reward.

I'm really close to finishing my first tier3 precursor! ..for the spear of all things. I'm pretty sure spending those resources toward an underwater legendary isn't the smartest thing, but i'm working on the collections for a dozen of them and that's just the one that i made the most progress on.

I'm just having fun with all the goals provided by the collections

I have no idea what I should sell in my backpack. I did not even know how to disable an outfit I got! hehe

I did just go right back to trying to 100% exploring. I know I finished all the jump puzzles back in the day.

Why reason I hate firing it back up is I see people with cool stuff (like that chinese dragon pet) and I wonder if I missed out on it!

WoodenPotatoes is going through a detailed look at all the new specializations. Here's the Deadeye and most of the others are already on his channel.

Since I picked it up again this week I 100% world completion and finished the original story! I bought both expansions also so I'm in for a bit!

I have to say ZoS is a wonderful group of people. Having a ball with them.

extremely organized and helpful and there's a ton of them!

I just joined up with ZoS as well.

I may have been spending most of the last couple days doing jumping puzzles. Trying to get through Troll's Revenge in one go right now, it's a doozy.

For those in ZoS, are they receptive to us filthy 30-60 min a night players? I don't have the time to be 'hardcore', but would love to have a guild to chat with.

From what I've seen they accommodate all types.

Yes. You'll have a chance to tell them about your play styles and such in your interview, but they are *very* accommodating. They have a lot of experience with GWJers.

Yes, I've been an off and on player with ZoS for the last couple of years. You can be as involved as you want to be. They are a very welcoming, laid back group.

Woot, finished Troll's Revenge! It's actually pretty forgiving with a lot of safety nets, it's just really confusing where to go sometimes.

So quick question - is there a big gap in lvl 80 wep/armor stats from the old world and the expansion ones. Just started HoT and the mobs are hitting me a bit harder. Thanks!

there's no real gap. the stats are equivalent though some of them do allow better min/maxing for certain builds.

the mobs are definitely much harder though, not just in term of raw numbers but in how punishing the various abilities are.

the HoT zones are meant to be more difficult.

More FUN, you mean.

Indeed. You need to watch warnings and dodge liberally in HOTS. You can sleepwalk through most old world stuff.

I did a lot in HoT this weekend. I think they did just a great job with all the area spanning events. I ran the ones in Tarir quite a bit this weekend. PLUS the gliding is just so much fun and really helps travel!

Are you in a guild? That can really help. But the bestest best thing is trains.
