Let's talk anime.

Despite the odd choice of going with a misspelled word in their name, RightStuf is a very reputable anime store. I bought quite a bit from them back in the days when I was buying anime DVDs.

I also purchased mainly from them for a long time, until Amazon became competitive in anime prices. I still purchase though them occasionally either when they are having a major sale (like now) or if I want something Amazon doesn't seem to carry (like many series collector's editions). Besides, on occasion, they also sell blind packs of both anime and manga 20 discs/volumes each for $20. And while I've gotten duplicates and odd volumes from the anime one, I've also gotten a few that I felt paid for the venture and it's fun to roll the dice from time to time.

Tl;dr: rightstufanime = would recommend.

You do need to be careful, though, to filter out all the porn RightStuf sells. Because they sell a lot of hentai.

I mean, someone's gotta, right?

As for what I mean in terms of modern anime:

Spoiler:

End of season one of Yu Yu Hakusho has the "surprise victory plan" where Red Head basically goes faster by having Yusuke fire his Special Beam Cannon at Red Head's back, thus allowing him to skewer the Big Bad. It's more clever than Dragon Ball Z, where the fights basically ended when Akira Toriyama got bored of drawing it. It's still a bit of an ass-pull, but it also would carry on to anime like Naruto, Bleach, and even current runner My Hero Academia. A lot of the clever plots, plans and combination of abilities are a bit more flashy and intricate now, but it was interesting going back to where it sort of started.

Yu Yu Hakusho is still fun, but writing has in a lot of ways gotten better since then. In a lot of ways it has only remained stale, and in other ways other tropes have come around to make some of it inferior to older anime. It's changing times, really, but it's been what, 30 years since Yu Yu Hakusho? Not surprising to see that the genre would grow from an earlier and formative example.

How is it so far? Would you recommend it to someone that really doesn't care about dance?

For sure! It's a fairly typical sports anime in its character setup. It's kind of a blend of Haikuu and Yuri on Ice although not quite as good as either.

Soon, Funimation will be Sony's.
Having seen some Sony branded anime, I have hope that they aren't going to screw this up.

I can only hope this won't have any impact on Funimation's dubs. I feel like they've been pretty solid in that dept. And speaking of Funimation dubs...

...so I finally just started My Hero Academia, only 2 episodes into S2 so far. How did it take me this long? It's been a while since I've had a good padded-out-action in a while.

Watched the first episode of Children of Ether. This has something I have never seen in anime, a black female protagonist. The animation is good, the story is a mess, and I liked the voice acting but it is in English which was odd. Will definitely watch more.

Also watched the first episode of My Hero Academia. I was almost ready to drop it after five minutes but I watched the entire thing and ended up enjoying it. The animation isn't as good as One Punch Man but the action has a similar style.

Both series are free on Crunchyroll.

Saw this before the screening of The Ancient Magus last week.

Wish they had posted the promotional "making of" video for that as well. Was interesting to see how it came about (the story and concept art was done by Americans, and the final designs and animation were in Japan). It was pretty interesting.

The Ancient Magus was great too. It didn't quite have that terrific, Ghibli-like sense of wonder that The Ancient Magus' Bride has, but it was still a great first three episodes.

Have you read the manga of Ancient Magus' Bride?

Konosuba is really good.

Got my Girl with the Blue Eye discs today!

Just saw Shimoneta for the first time in the last week (and promptly pushed through the entire series). Solid dub.

(re:Konosuba) I really got sold on it once Aqua grabbed Kazuma (probably) and shook him back and forth while crying and yelling. Mmmm, comedy.
Eris best goddess.

Found Kamisama Kiss on Hulu, I think it's a reverse harem. Hope so, it's been too long.

Finished Devil Is a Part Timer, good show. Went ahead and read a little on wikipedia and got a few spoilers. Oh, Japanese authors, do you never f*cking change? Ever?

Spoiler:

Emi does develop feelings for him and her father is alive or at least didn't die when they said he did.

Kiss Him Not Me is another great reverse harem.

If anyone's into Gundam, the first episode of Gundam Build Fighters: Battlogue is on their youtube page (linked below). For those that don't know about Build Fighters, it's basically Level 5's LBX or Medabots only for Gundam model kits. The plot is largely absent, but the actual battles are always intense with consistently amazing animation. Honestly every fight feels like an end-of-season finale for other shounen series.

So I just watched Robotics;Notes. What a great anime! Definitely place it in one of my favorite anime! I don't remember it being talked much about here though.

Little Witch Academia's second half of the season went live today! YEAH!

So I got caught up on the dubbed episodes of My Hero Academia (up to S2E17), and being the impatient soul I am, I went on to look up the subbed episodes. Sure enough, the subs are up to S2E19, but all that means is that they've got the post-villain fight episode, and then an anime-exclusive filler episode, to which I say, "Darn."

My Hero Academia is the most hype show I have watched in a long time. I'm actually mad that I caught up.

Spoiler:

When All Might fought Nomu that was amazing

UGH. I caught up last week. I thought the second season ended and I stopped watching for 2 months until someone raved about it.

I had 8 episodes to binge! It was great! But now I need to wait a week in between =(

I'm trying to find a show to watch so I can let episodes pile up

Little Witch Academia.

Seriously, it and My Hero Academia are basically my favorite things in 2017 that aren't called season two of Showa Genroku Rakugo.

Wheeeee! Just started watching it. Gonna have to try and not blow through it too fast. I can't believe they got to do 25 episodes (2 seasons I guess). I thought it was all said and done after the initial 13. The animation is just so beautiful.

Netflix is calling this new part "season 2".

Yeah, it was released in Japan as a straight up 25 episode season. I went through it with my brother in two days. The final episode is so f*cking Trigger it's great. Trigger saves anime, etc. etc.

I'll probably go through it again, but maybe not until after I've taken a second trip through Guren Lagan to give it a second chance. I wasn't too fond of it at first but I think I'm ready to readjust my expectations since I'm a pretty big fan of Kill la Kill and Little Witch. I've also watched some of Space Patrol Luluco, but that's more an Adult Swim style comedy in its execution.

Part of me wants another season just to have more time with the characters, but another part of me feels like they wrapped things up nicely enough that you can't really put together the right circumstances to live up to the big emotional hits of this season. Of course, I've been wrong before! I'd love to see them go somewhere further, but I also won't mind if this is what we get.

I just realized watching this that if PUBG had an anime look I would be completely into it. I dislike the aesthetic look of PUBG enough that it's easy to avoid buying (I'm sure I'd have fun with it, but too many games and all...)

That's... That's just a reskin of Freedom Wars...

Oh, I don't have any interest in that game. I was just thinking it'd be cool to have an anime battle royale game.

Thing I learned today:

Perfect Blue is a phenomenal anime.

It's also impossible to find at a decent price now.

Other thing I learned today:

Evidently if you want Kill la Kill on Blu-Ray it's gonna cost you about $40 a volume on Right Stuf Anime and there's 5 volumes, totaling up to about $200 after the price has been slashed.
