Oculus Rift Catch-All

Robo Recall has been pretty stable but I haven't played all that recently.
Slight blur might be normal, make sure you took off the thin plastic protectors and you can clean the lenses with microfiber and it might help. Also make sure you have your IPD right (the slider on the bottom of the Rift) and the Rift fits well, because that being off could cause blur. It fits well if it's just resting against your skin and the back piece sort of cups the back of your skull where it curves inward toward your neck. You shouldn't have a red ring around your face when you finish using your Rift

Thank you. Robo recall ran better last time I played it.

Anyone run into the Batman AR row of long one of numbers/letters (some with parentheses bracketing them) near sight line at all time? Weird. In same color and font as game.

So, as a newbie, highlights of what I have:

Lone echo demo
Robo recall
Super hot VR
Google earth (have no idea how to do more than just stare. Touch controls don't seem to work)

Why am I missing?

Also, my PC is to the right of my room. Would folks suggest playing with Rift cable in front or up over shoulder and to the right? Don't want to crimp any cables.

Thanks!

Chad

Superhot is a ton of fun. I'm a big fan of Lone Echo and also The Climb was a great experience. Raw Data is good. Arizona Sunshine was great. Also, Blazerush. So entertaining.

Thank you. Keep suggestions coming. Is The Climb that good for a premium price ($40)?

Do people leave their Rift plugged in all the time?

I only have an hour so in it but Mage's Tale is pretty good if you like dungeon crawlers.

At $399 for rift and controllers, i could no longer resist.

Great purchase. Amazing experience!

Looking for a good, if one exists, some sort of sword and shield type game. I'd like to do some battling.

Next major purchase is either Mage's Tale, The Climb or Lone Echo. I played the multiplayer of Lone Echo and what an amazing unparalleled experience. Wow.

Any impressions of Sports VR?
I tried playing Dead and Buried last night. Couldn't find a game and it's multiplayer only. Anyone still play that game or have I missed the boat?

Thanks,
Chad

I've been playing Lone Echo lately and having an awesome time. The moving around and interacting with stuff is the best I've experienced in any VR game probably so far. It's a slow burn though, so if you're looking for tons of big action it might not be for you. It's more of an exploration, story, and "be there" kind of experience, though I'm only a few hours in, so I'm not sure how it goes later on. For me, it's perfect.

I have some good fun with The Climb as well. I picked it up in a sale, and I'm not sure the $40 is totally worth it, but it is pretty good. It's a really great use of the touch controllers, and my arms definitely get a workout!

I do leave the rift plugged in all the time, but I close the app when I'm not playing a game, which essentially shuts down the headset and sensors anyway.

The blur may be normal but you'll need to be more specific. The resolution is much lower than a monitor so you're going to see aliasing on the edges. You can compensate with anti-aliasing (either in game or through drivers) but you'll take a hit on frame rate. There's also a "sweet spot" with the headsets. Check to make sure you've got it placed on your head and centered. You'll see a bit of blurring around the edges due to the lenses themselves.

Looks like the Rift is finally going to ship for me today. Unfortunately the controllers have an estimated ship date of 8/11 - 8/14. :happysad:

If you're referring to the game that used to be Pool Nation, it's great. The pool mechanics are super solid, multiplayer is fun (if you can find a game) and the mini games are a great distraction. Plus you can put whatever you want up on the TVs in the bar which is pretty neat.

My apologies, I was mistaken about the name. The name is VR Sports Challenge.

Much obliged!

How often do Oculus games go on sale and should I just keep my eye on the Oculus storefront and Steam for sales or are there other vendors?

Thank you,
Chad

VR Sports Challenge was amusing for a brief time. I couldnt figure out basketball but the hockey and football games were entertaining. The appeal is very limited though. I got them free, I wouldn't have wanted to pay more than maybe $10 for them. I'd love to see a more serious sports treatment with multiplayer.

By the way, if you haven't yet, get Echo Arena. Its free for the next few months for anyone who grabs it in that time. It's basically water polo but in microgravity.

Echo Arena is mind blowing. Tried it out last night.

Thank you. Good description.
I had a second Oculus Rift arrive due to a shipping error so I tried it out. Similar issues but your explanation and taking the time to find the right fit made it much better.

No response on the Arkham VR support forums on WB. A shame. I hoped they could explain this random line of letters that appears at all times during the game just above eyesight.

Any sense of what arizona sunshine offers, besides theme, compared to Robo Recall?

I'm looking for a good vr dungeon game that includes using swords in addition to spells. I want to experience a vr sword fight. Mage's Tale fit the bill?

Thanks
Chad

Was going to say Vanishing Realms, but sadly I think it's Vive only right now.

Robo Recall is kind of a wave shooter that has fantastic mechanics and huge areas to traverse, but there are only a handful of areas and the main focus is a score chase. However, once you get a feel for all of the things you can do mechanically, there's no better power fantasy game in VR IMO. The graphics are also fantastic if your rig can max them out.

Arizona Sunshine has an actual campaign with your characters inner monologue narrating things where you'll be exploring areas, solving simple puzzles, seeing some cinematics and opening cars and drawers and things looking for items. Really fun to play coop and there's also a horde mode. Much slower paced than Robo Recall but not in a bad way. Just different.

Love them both personally.

Vanishing Realms is the king of this right now. Not sure if it supports Rift. Mage's Tale is spells only but is longer and has voice acting and some other presentational things which Vanishing Realms does not. I like Mage's Tale but I LOVE Vanishing Realms so if it's not on Rift I hope it is soon.

Woot, just ordered via Newegg, should be here Tuesday or Wednesday. Will give me time to get some wall mounts from Lowes this weekend. Also, just as a FYI, the sale is maybe ending next week. Newegg and Bestbuy both have notices that the sale will end on the 9th/10th, though it is strange that there is no official word from Oculus.

Badferret-- awesome. Excited for you.

I took a look at Vanishing Realms reviews and they are solid. I also note that many reviewers said the game is compatible with Ovulus Rift even though official support is not listed. So, if that is the case, is there anything special one needs to do to play a Vive game on Rift or do you just load the game?

Thanks,

Chad

You just fire it up. I haven't even bothered looking for oculus compatibility in a game for a while, Open VR (which steam vr is based on) just had great compatibility for both devices

I got the impression that you can pretty much play any game on either the Oculus or the Vive one way or another.

This is, indeed, good news. I've constrained my VR shopping to games listed on the Oculus store. In addition to Vanishing Realms, any other Vive games worth looking at?

The sense of presence in VR is one of the most amazing technical experiences of my life. In the 80s I remember my dad taking me to a VR arcade that was, of course, rudimentary and offered nothing like today's experience.

Don't forget to try the Budget Cuts demo if you want to experience presence. I cannot wait for that game to come out (looks like early 2018 at this point).

Have you tried The Lab?

I will try those out.

So... strangely, my touch hardware has been disassociated from my account along with Robo Recall and all the other touch launch games. The serial numbers are no longer listed in my account and none of the games are visible in oculus home. Everything else I've purchased via Home is there.

I've opened a ticket with Oculus, but they've been less than helpful so far. They seem to think I must have a second account that I've somehow forgotten about.

Make sure you all get Superhot VR. It's just as brilliant as Superhot. The level design and pacing for VR are absolutely perfect.

I caved and bought Lone Echo today. Echo Arena doesn't interest me, but the campaign game is really top notch. Definitely in my top 5 VR titles so far.
